Amonoka Villa is a classic 4-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home on a ridge above Teague Bay and facing Buck Island. Alongside the Reef golf course on St. Croix’s East End, guests will arrive at a gated entry, framed with bougainvillea that opens to reveal the private road leading up to this home.

Upon entering through a door accented by a stained glass panel, guests will be delighted by the amount of space, both indoors and out, where everyone can spread out and enjoy the views. Pickled cypress beamed ceilings provide classic Caribbean atmosphere along with the breezy floor plan that flows from room to room.

Indoors, the Great Room has a dining area to the right and a sitting area to the left, with a separate media room tucked alongside. It’s furnished with tropical-styled recliners, a large-screen satellite television, a high-speed internet connection, and extra sleeping space if needed.

The modern kitchen is open and furnished with every appliance guests might need for cooking. Stroll down the gentle slope in front of the villa to pick tropical fruits in Amonoka’s orchard for breakfast or to garnish a drink made of local rum. Oranges, lemons, limes, guavas, bananas, and carambolas, also called star fruits, all have their seasons here.

There are two bedrooms to the far left, each with sliding glass doors facing the Caribbean. One, in sunshine yellow furnished with twin beds can be made up into a king.

The second, a serene sea blue, is furnished with a king-size bed and has a separate deck facing the valley’s golf course below. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom with shower.

In the master wing on the east side of the house, a spacious bedroom has the ultimate double “his and hers” bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a tub, separated by a large closet. There’s also an outdoor shower with a view of Buck Island just off the balcony.

The lower level has an expansive private apartment with its own entrance and a covered patio with the same view of Buck Island and beyond. It can sleep up to 4, with twin beds which can be made up into a king-size bed, plus a queen-size sleeper sofa. A compact but full kitchen completes the picture.

Across the sea is the Buck Island Reef National Monument, an uninhabited island under the auspices of the National Park Service where pleasure boats glide in for snorkeling or swimming. Below the villa is Teague Bay and the St. Croix Yacht Club, home to yachts that will entertain guests as they raise their sails to set off or return.

Beaches are just minutes away along with other daytime pursuits. The colonial town of Christiansted is within a short drive by car for shopping, sightseeing, and a full choice of gourmet restaurants. After dinner, the island’s casino is just on the other side of the island from the villa, for a convenient game or two of chance before bed.
