Arches, Oyster Pond (Dutch side) villa review Visited: June 2011
Posted by garofalos
Our stay at Arches in Oyster Pond was amazing. The views from the villa were breathtaking! We were here for eight days and nine nights. We really enjoyed the area and the island.
The villa was up on a hill that overlooks Oyster Pond. The road was quite steep, but was totally accessible by car. The beach was not too far, and it's possible to walk down to the beach but it is a steep climb back, which we did several days and nights.
The restaurants around the area were nice and not too expensive. We enjoyed the food at Daniel's, Canoa, and Big Fish on the Dutch side of Oyster Pond. We had our best dinner at Le Planteur on the French side, on the road to Captain Oliver's.
There was not much shopping in the area, but it was not too far to the local supermarket and other shopping in Philipsburg. The Westin was equally close. We enjoyed the casino there, as well as shopping at the gift shop.
The villa was so great. It had all the amenities we could imagine: full kitchen, barbecue, stereo, and a pool. In addition, the bathrooms were clean and spacious.
The view from the villa was breathtaking. We had the harbor to the left and the ocean to the right ahead of us. The pool was very nice and was kept very clean. You will use it a lot, because it is quite hot down there! The outside area, overall, was great (for adults).
The housekeeper and maintenance man were very nice and helpful, too.
We would recommend this place for a small group on their honeymoon (like us) or a larger group going on a vacation. This place was awesome. Thanks for recommending it!

We had three couples and rented the Villa Arches for a week. The villa was absolutely perfect for the six of us.
Every day after the beach (we tried to visit every beach), we would return to the Arches for a swim in the lovely pool surrounded by beautiful flowers and views. We also made a habit of getting a fresh baguette, cheese, proscuitto, mustard and wine for an afternoon snack around the pool. We always purchased our snack and wine from a great grocery store on the French side of Oyster Pond.
The view from the Arches is spectacular both during the day and night. Every couple had a wonderful suite, and we all were extremely comfortable.
All of the restaurants we visited were great - both on the French side and Dutch side.
The staff was great and very helpful. Although, we didn't need anything that was not already provided. We are so glad we chose the Arches and hope to return soon. It was one of the best vacations ever!

Arches, Oyster Pond (Dutch side) villa review Visited: December 2009

Arches is perched high on a hill, overlooking Dawn Beach. The property itself is very well designed, and there is plenty of privacy for three couples. The private swimming pool is divine, and the landscaping is lush and beautifully maintained.
There are, however, a few caveats. Don't come with small children or pets, since the lovely porches have no barriers between you and a very severe drop. Also, be prepared to struggle with the internet connection (you need to configure it, by calling the network providers, not just by plugging in). Finally, the bathrooms in the main part of the property could do with some serious updating. I would think the owner would take note, especially in light of the rental cost.
That said, all in all, we had a lovely vacation.
