Castara Retreats - Description

Description
Castara Retreats is a superb eco-resort set into the hillside overlooking the fishing village of Castara on the Caribbean coast of Tobago. The three apartments and three lodges can be rented individually or joined together for group events like reunions or weddings. We have a magnificent Pavilion which is ideally suited for such events. The accommodations include a penthouse apartment (sleeping 4) with two one bedroom apartments (each sleeping 2)in the main house plus two cedar lodges (sleeping 2-4) and a beautifully renovated fisherman's shack (sleeping 2). All have panoramic views over the broad sweep of Castara Bay and/or look west over the Caribbean. The house and lodges each have free Wifi access and are five minutes from the sandy beach and the village with its little shops and cafes. Backed by protected rainforest and surrounded by tropical gardens, Castara Retreats has an abundance of wildlife from Mot Mots to Hummingbirds, Agoutis and Iguanas. There are decks and terraces with comfortable seating set in the gardens which have paved well-lit paths. All accommodation is stylishly furnished and well equipped with quality mattresses, white bed linen and full-size frame mosquito nets. Open spacious covered decks allow unhindered views and cooling breezes to circulate.

We had a superb stay in wonderful nature. 5.0 stars

We stayed a week at Castara Retreat, and loved every minute. We'd love to come back again and again. Everything was splendid: view, rooms, beds, bathroom, surroundings, etc. We were also very well treated by Porridge and other staff.

We have been to Castara before, and find it's the most authentic place to stay in the Caribbean. We loved the small village, the friendly locals, good food, wonderful nature and great beach.

I previously stayed in Castara with my husband over a year ago and thought it would be a fabulous place for the family to spend a holiday together. We were really excited at the prospect of a warm Caribbean Christmas.

We stayed in Rainforest, which was a fantastic space. It felt very open and spacious with the high ceiling and amazing panoramic view of the bay. The high quality furnishings and well equipped kitchen made our stay very comfortable and had obviously been very well thought through.

We had a terrific Christmas Eve BBQ on the new pagoda. It was really lovely to meet some of the other guests. The fish was as fresh as it gets, and we enjoyed sampling some local specialties, especially Sherwin's pumpkin in coriander and ginger. Yum! It was a great way to start the holiday.

The highlight was the boat trip with Porridge and Sherwin who know the best places for snorkeling. A BBQ feast on a secluded beach, fantastic company and a lively atmosphere were topped off by spotting a turtle! What more could you ask for?

Another great day I can recommend was the island tour with the lovely Jeanell. She was extremely knowledgeable and proud of her beautiful home.

We are back home now, and already looking forward to our next trip.

We loved it!

I stayed here with my partner for a week in Fisherman's, and we had a very "chilled" time. The space for two people was great, and the views from each room and veranda spectacular! We saw so many beautiful birds just sitting there.

I have never been to the Caribbean before and was so glad to have chosen Castara rather than the more touristy hotel areas on the South of Tobago. We are not really "hotel people". It was good to feel part of the local community and get a flavor of local life.

We hired a car from Porridge which was hassle free. We loved the North of the island - especially Charlotteville where we had the best "Roti", and would have liked more time to explore Speyside and little Tobago.

Porridge and the team were amazing. We have never been looked after so well.

We also had a great trip to the Rainforest with Newton George and would definitely recommend him. He is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the forest - and especially the birds.
We would love to return, but for two weeks next time!

There were such nice people here. This was a marvelous place where we found serenity, peace of mind and extraordinary moments.

The "Fisherman's" was great - all comfort, very clean and the sightseeing from there just wonderful! We could see the river from our bed and hear the birds in the morning.

This is the place to go, a place to stay... and a place to live! Thank you, Porridge!
