El Conquistador Resort, Fajardo & Humacao Areas hotel review Visited: April 2011

I have been going to this resort for over 11 years, and it has been amazing every time! However, the resort is pricey, so I suggest going off of the resort every now and then for food. This is a good way to enjoy not-pricey, authentic Puerto Rican food.
Back in 2010, people were complaining about bed bugs. This is not a lie. The bugs are not bed bugs, they are mosquitoes. Puerto Rico is humid, and sometimes bugs may get into your room. However, the resort has taken care of this issue.
I also recommend buying the breakfast plan. It is so much easier and cheaper. Also, people have to understand that if the faculty doesn't help them right away, it does not mean that the resort is terrible. You have to realize that there are a couple hundred people staying in the resort, and they might have been ahead of you in line to be helped.
In addition, this resort is great for children and adults.
However, the spa doesn't have the best service. For children, there is a kids' club, a water park and more. Palomino island is amazing too!
However, the whole island isn't private like the resort stated. They do have a nice big slice of the island. While you are at the beach, though, I don't recommend the food there. Have lunch before you get to the island.
Overall, El Conquistador is beautiful! Don't stay in the resort the whole time, though. Try out an excursion, or rent a car. Puerto Rico is beautiful, and El Conquistador is the best place to go!

Buyer beware! El Conquistador Resort is three-star resort posing as a five-star.
The resort is in a beautiful location, and the amenities are very nice. However, the service is no where near luxury. Management is having issues with the union and it shows.
The food is cafeteria quality at New York City prices. I do not recommend this resort, unless you can go at a steep discount.
Also, rent a car because they gouge you on prices for everything. Caveat emptor!

There were definitely bed bugs here, and the front desk tried passing them off as mosquitoes.
I encountered slower than possible service - if I got served at all. There were 1,000 people in attendance for a conference, and when the meetings broke there were only two people at the main bar. I suggest you buy your own at the small store, it's cheaper.
The private beach was not so private - and was a 30-minute boat ride away. The small casino was only open from 4 pm-midnight.
If you put in for late check out, lock up your luggage as the cleaning staff took several bottles of liquor that had not yet been packed. They apparently don't know how to serve, but they certainly know how to drink.

This hotel was absolute paradise. It was full of its own restaurants, and some were from the states. They even had a Starbucks.
There were three pools and a ferry to Palomino Island. At Palomino you can scuba and snorkel. It's not just some boring dive. The people are so nice. They put out some food for the guests. You can swim, and they give you good advice. They even let you jump off the boat sometimes!
