La Paloma Guest House, Fajardo & Humacao Areas hotel review Visited: February 2010

We stayed in # 4, with the pool at our front door. There were only a few rooms to stay in, and the owners live at the La Paloma.
Nilda made us feel like family. Her husband Mike was also awesome. We are definitely going back soon, although we'll most likely stay longer next time, and visit more places.
We were here for five days, and loved every minute of it. Nilda is one who loves her culture, and loves new friends. She also makes a mean Puerto Rican oatmeal for breakfast!.
There is so much to do in Puerto Rico. If you stay, try to stay longer than we did. There was great horseback riding close by, also. I could go on for ever about La Paloma and Puerto Rico!

Don't ever, ever, ever go to that place. I'm a Puerto Rican, and I'm a little ashamed that we have a terrible place like this.
I made a reservation at La Paloma. We drove for hours. We got lost because it is a hidden place in the mountains. When we got there, the owner told us she gave our room to another family. I tried to call her to tell her we going to be late, but she never picked up. The first person with the cash gets the room. It doesn't matter if you have a reservation, apparently.
The kitchen was a mess. The house was smelly, and the bathroom was disgusting. The owner doesn't even cook like everybody thinks. She buys it, and puts it on the plates. I was here for an hour, and I can tell all this. Imagine two or three days here.

If possible, I would give even less than one star.
Although the view was beautiful and the owner one night served us a good meal without extra charge, this is where the positive feedback ends.
When we arrived, they had forgotten that I had reserved by phone call (nothing else was possible), so our room was occupied by other people. We therefore took the second room, which, I swear, was the most terrible room I ever stayed in.
I'm usually not picky about furniture or even cleanliness, I have stayed in many hostels and guest houses all around the world. However, here we had: a disgusting smell, a dead roach on the floor, and another black bug disappearing under the bed when I got up the next morning (it was too fast to be identified). Also, the place was as dirty as you couldnīt even imagine. They didn't even mind to pick up screw caps from beer bottles lying around from the last guests.
After two days, we could move to the other room, which in comparison was almost paradise (nice furniture actually). Although at second sight, the room was rather dirty, too (cigarette ashes in the bathroom, empty pill packaging on the floor, and just not clean overall).
And as a farewell gift, we found at the last evening that someone had drunk our two bottles of beer and 100 ml of Bacardi rum we had left in the fridge. Well, thanks a lot!

I came to this location two weeks ago, and stayed here for the first time. Like any other person, I am very skeptical when it comes to going to someplace new, yet I dared to go along with the comments being placed.
I, too, found a web video of La Paloma Guest House - which helped me with my decision. Nilda, the owner, is a very friendly person who makes you feel like you're part of ther family.
The place is fairly clean, considering it is like your home away from home. You have a kitchen with a stove and fridge. There is also air conditioning and TV. You basically come to stay here and sleep.
The pool is open all night and day - as long as you don't swim in the nude. The place is on top of a mountain, so there were no mosquitos there. Every morning, there was a slight mist of rain (remember, it is near the rainforest).
On one side, you view the island and the beach. On the other - the rainforest.
Nilda is a decendant of the Taino tribe, so she may educate you about them.
Remember, this is like a mini-hotel/motel/home, so don't expect something grand. Nilda will clean the area, and if you need to have something changed, she will do so. She is very pleasant and compliant. She even offered to cook for us. She does make sure we feel welcome.
