Le Grand Courlan Resort and Spa, Tobago hotel review Visited: June 2010

This hotel is glam on the outside - and that's what tricks you. The quality of service is not fitting for its beautiful exterior.
The rooms were nice, but a closer look revealed how aged everything really was. I was there for a two-night business trip - and the staff stressed me out more than my meeting.
I was locked out of my room twice. The key card had to be reprogrammed, and not one of the three females at the desk seemed to know how to do it. They fiddled with the machine for almost an hour. When I asked about a master key, I was told (with a bright smile): "The maintenance guy had the only one and he tending to other rooms." Where was the general manager!
He finally appeared after an hour. However, he was nice and helpful and reprogrammed the key so I could get into my room. Apparently the staff can't function independently of him.
The second time I was locked out of my room was later that evening. This time I was dripping wet in my bathing suit and had to wait in lobby in this attire (much to my embarrassment). Once again, the key didn't work! It wasn't even worth it.
After swimming in the pool, heading to the other end, my stomach turned at the sight of a small (but very dead) frog floating in the water. I also observed two large toads we mating in the changing rooms.
The food left much to be desired. Only on my check-out day was the lunch served tasty. On the last day of my stay, the toilet refused to flush. I had to check out leaving a toilet bowl with stool.
For the price I paid to stay at this hotel, it was in no way worth it.

Le Grand Courlan Resort and Spa, Tobago hotel review Visited: June 2006

We visited Tobago during the second half of June 2006, staying for two weeks. We had three rooms at Le Grand Courlan Resort and Spa. One for my wife-to-be and I, and one for her 20-year-old son. The third being shared by our respective daughters, ages 19 and 21.
All the rooms were together, and had stunning sea views. They were clean, comfortable and very well maintained throughout our stay.
The staff was, without exception, cheerful, friendly and helpful.
The highlight of our trip was our wedding. This was organized by the hotel, and turned out to be a delightful day. The setting was idyllic, on the beach. It was a small, simple service officiated by a local minister, and attended to by our children and a few friends we made during our stay. It was truly a day to remember.
My wife and our children all used the spa treatments that were offered as part of the all-inclusive package. The days soon started to revolve around assorted scrubs, rubs and manicures. All of which were a very high standard, administered by professional staff.
I ‘traded’ my spa treatments for dives with the padi accredited dive centre attached to the resort. ‘Eco divers’ provided a fantastic range of dives to suit beginners through to the more experienced adventurers. For two weeks of spa treatments, I received five free dives and one lesson to upgrade my certification. The dives were just what I imagined diving in the Caribbean should be, colorful and exciting. The staff was, again, very helpful, friendly and professional.
We took all of our meals in the resort, using both restaurants and the beach bar. Breakfast and lunch were buffet-style meals, and were always good. The evening meal was waiter service, and it was exceptional. We always looked forward to our dinner.
We had a holiday that we will all remember for a long time to come. Would we go back to Tabago? Oh, yes. Would we use Le Grand Courlan again? Definitely.

What an island! As a first-time visitor I have to say what a wonderful island this was (people and place).
Le Grand was a super hotel, with relaxed - yet efficient - service. There was a good choice of restaurants which were equally good - one was a buffet style, one was serviced.
There was also a nice, clean pool. It was quiet, and there were lovely fellow guests. The all-inclusive was beautifully handled –everything really was included.
I give full marks to the staff who were a delight. We had a standard garden view room which turned out to have a view of the ocean.
Well managed, this hotel suited our desire to chill out but in a friendly atmosphere where even our high standards were met.

Le Grand Courlan Resort and Spa, Tobago hotel review Visited: October 2005

My wife and I stayed at the Le Grand Courlan Spa in Tobago between September 29 and October 16 (2005). It was, by far, the most enjoyable holiday we have taken.
The hotel amenities were excellent, including the spa and sport facilities, food, and swimming pool areas. The hotel rooms were first class. The management and all of the staff, with their kindness and friendliness, made it a holiday to remember.
