Melia Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic hotel review Visited: March 2010
Posted by totobenj
I stayed in this hotel for five days in March 2010. The location is great and the rooms are very clean.
However, everything in the hotel is very expensive. They charged me $7.25 for a small bottle of water. There were two restaurants within walking distance behind the hotel. Their prices were very reasonable.
At the club, you will pay for drinks three times the amount of what you would pay in the US. If you need a cab, call Jesus at 809 884-5088. Most of the other cab drivers will rip you off.

Melia Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic hotel review Visited: July 2006

This summer, I stayed in this hotel for a month while I was on a study abroad trip (along with fifteen other students from my college).
From the time we arrived in the middle of June, to the time we left in the middle of July, we were treated very well by the staff at this hotel.
We ate in Cafe Carabe every night for dinner, and the service there was spectacular. They seemed to take an interest in the customer in a way that I have never experienced before. They remembered the drinks that each person liked, and they always had the special requested condiments out on the table before we got to dinner (and even in the spot where the person sat who requested it).
Even though we had to call for an extra wash cloth every now and then, the housekepping was on top of their game. We enjoyed all of the amenities, like the pool, the gym, and the sauna.
One thing I really liked about this clean hotel, was that it was not far from anything. It was in a central place. Another thing I liked was the incredible ambiance in the lobby. You can really relax or sit out on the outside living room. It was really peaceful.
I was also impressed with the amazing wireless connection for my laptop's internet in this hotel. I was able to keep in touch with family and friends easily with the good wireless capabilities.
In addition, I really enjoyed Sundays here because the streets were closed down to traffic, and there is nothing but music, basketball, bike riding, horse carriages, skating, etc. going on.
This hotel is my home when I'm not in the US. I really appreciated the way they made us feel welcomed. For example, while we were on this trip, two people in our party celebrated their birthdays. From the hotel, they received breakfast in bed and a birthday cake. This was very considerate, because they could not be home for their birthday, but they still got the chance to be celebrated.
This hotel was very nice, and I will be staying here when I come back to visit the Dominican Republic. I would recommend this hotel for the vacationing family, the business traveler, or the local who just wants to be pampered at a nice hotel.

Our family spent six wonderful days at Melia. Our experience with the service and the food was out of this world. We highly recommend it.

I have been to Dominican Republic five times already and I cannot wait to go again, many thanks to Melia Santo Domingo.
Each morning I was greeted with a newspaper. In the afternoon, after returning from my usual adventures, chocolates and a very clean room welcomed me.
I really appreciated the royal treatment. It was wonderful for me and my entire family.
