Miller Manor - Description

Description
Folks who want an in-town location on their trip to historic St. Thomas will enjoy Miller Manor. Located up a steep hillside overlooking Charlotte Amalie Harbor, this 26-room guesthouse on Frenchman's Hill puts you a short walk from duty-free shopping emporiums and eclectic restaurants. Many good ones are within walking distance, either in Frenchtown or downtown. While it's perfectly safe to walk downtown when the sun's still up, it's best to plan on a taxi if you want to be out and about at night.

A stay at Miller Manor puts you in touch with the island's past. Built in the late 1800s as a private home, it sits nestled in a neighborhood that dates to the island's earlier days. The guesthouse reflects the historic nature of the island's main town. The shops that line Main Street on the waterfront side once served to store sugar and molasses brought in from the outlying plantations. The buildings on the inland side were shops with the owners living upstairs.

Miller Manor's expansive patio provides the perfect spot to gather with old and new friends. Bowers of bougainvillea and other tropical trees and plants
provide decor by Mother Nature.

All the rooms are different. One of the rooms has an old mahogany bed. The rest have wood and rattan furniture and ceramic tile floors. Rooms have a view of the dynamic Charlotte Amalie Harbor, where there is always plenty of activity to watch. Two rooms have private balconies. All rooms have a microwave, refrigerator, air-conditioning, and satellite TV, and all but one has a private bath. Breakfast is served on the gallery each morning for a reasonable price. With modest rates by St. Thomas standards, the hotel is a bargain for people who don't need to be right at the beach. Lindbergh Bay, however, is only a 10-minute taxi ride away. If you'd like to join other tourists at the famed Magens Bay, you'll spend about 15 minutes on the road.
Ferries to St. John or the British Virgin Islands are also a short taxi ride away, or easily accessible on foot if you don't have much luggage.

We had a fabulous experience. 5.0 stars

After flying in to Charlotte Amalie, we taxied up the steep hill to Miller Manor, where we were met at the front gate by Harry and Marge. They are the most congenial host and hostess you will ever meet. They instantly made us feel like "old family" members, as they welcomed us with open arms.

After settling in to our very comfortable, clean and well appointed rooms, we were invited to the balcony for conversation and free drinks.

We stayed at Miller Manor for a night for the start of our sailing week and for a night at the conclusion of our trip. The shops and restaurants were only a short walk, but for me it was not possible. Harry called cabs for us and even drove us himself.

I doubt you could ever find service or hosts in any hotel chain that would go out of their way to provide assistance for guests such as found at Miller Manor. Harry and Marge are special and we consider them our "friends" and have invited them to stay with us when in our area.

Miller Manor is unbelievable and a fantastic place to stay. I highly recommend it.

I left Miller Manor knowing I'll come back again some day because it's just that special. 5.0 stars

My friends and I fell in love with Miller Manor a nanosecond after we walked through the front gate. It has so much charm, history and a unique atmosphere. It has great views, too.

There are playful critters to entertain the animal lovers; and wonderful nooks to sit back and take in the water views, enjoy a chapter of a book or write postcards.

A bar area with entertainment topped off our evenings.

The rooms were clean and accommodating. You'd really miss something special if you pass up the chance to stay in this one-of-a-kind hotel/guest house. It's also convenient to Main Street shops and the airport. Also, check out the old stone walls - very cool!

I cannot say enough about how great Marg and Harry are. We just fell in love with them. As we were checking in, they offered us complimentary cold beverages. It felt more like we were checking in a home not a hotel.

The views from the lounge area at the bar balcony were beautiful. You could see over the city to the harbor area where the cruise ships dock. We watched the sea planes land and take off. There were humming birds at the feeders right where we were sitting.

Marg and Harry even put our frozen foods in their freezer. We were staying two nights on our way to St. John. Whatever we needed they found a way to accommodate us. We even left something there, a frozen food item. They packed it in a cooler with ice packs and carried it to the ferry to be sent over to St. John.

You cannot beat that! Would you get that at any of those luxury hotels? I don't think so! They may not be upscale in a physical way, but in a personal way they were as upscale as you could get.

The place was clean not fancy. However, here you were not a room number, you were part of the family. Also, the beds slept better than any five-star hotel I've ever stayed in.

Would I stay again? You bet. Whenever I come back to St. Thomas I will be staying at Miller Manor without question.

Miller Manor welcomed four friends before and after their week of charter sailing. 4.0 stars

The owners and general manager welcomed us back from our week at sea adventure with a drink, big and fluffy towels, a great view of the Charlotte Amalie harbor, and genuine interest in our sailing trip.

After a week of cereal for breakfast on the boat, an omelet with strawberry garnish was a special treat, too. We also appreciated the clean and tidy oasis of Miller Manor and the colorful flowers and plants.

Our stay here was a great way to return to our landlubber status once more.
