Scrub Island is the worst. What a sham. 10 Stars

Scrub Island, Tortola, BVI hotel review Visited: July 2010

I'm stuck at this half star service heck hole. The people who work here prey upon their wealthy guests, they charge $50 for entrees and $60 for continental breakfast! The place is on an island where there is nothing else, and you're absolutely trapped. That is, unless you want to get messed over by the locals to be able to leave...paying $500 to go out on a boat anywhere.

Have you ever had a sandwich from a gas station? I just waited one hour and payed $20 (not including tip or tax) for one. Oh, and even more surprising was the $4 glass of iced tea. No one told me and kept refilling my glass. When the bill came, I paid $32 for crappy iced tea.

And that was my first day.

It's not about the money. It's the principle. I've been all around the world, and have eaten great food - from street cars to famous chefs' restaurants. But this place was made to trap tourists and take advantage of them. There was no grocery store, and no food options except over priced Village Inn food. Also, the service was scary it was so bad.

The worst is how on the web site, they have all kinds of stuff on there about the activities that they have here. We got here, and there was no such thing of any of them!

I would say research. However, what I'm going to say is don't ever come to Scrub Island. Go anywhere else. Actually, stay home before you come here.

I am biased in favor of the resort since I got married on the top of Little Scrub in October 2000.

This was my first time back since they started building the $160M+ resort that just opened in February 2010.

Our first day on the island, we took the free ferry to Trellis Bay and got $10 cab ride to super market in Road Town and stocked up on food. For the rest of the day, the kids were off to the pools with water slide and hot tub. The frozen drinks at the pool bar were expensive, but delicious.

When they tired of the pools, the kids took the few steps down to the beach and spent the next few hours digging and building forts in the sand and taking the ocean kayaks out to see both parts of Scrub and adjacent islands. Marina Cay was a short paddle to visit Pussers.

The islands are very steep, so a walk to anywhere will challenge your legs. So if you enjoy that burning sensation in your calves, have at it! The islands are connected by an isthmus with a rough road to take you down to the North Beaches and out toward the tip of Big Scrub.

On the way back from Big Scrub we stopped on the South Beach to collect shells.

I recommend the deep tissue massage at the spa, Dive BVI, the hotel boutique and the gym. I was impressed with the warmth and professionalism of the entire hotel staff.

There is a public PC for guest use in the customer center, too.

We had two meals in the main dining room. They were expensive, but delicious and well served.

When this project is done, it will be spectacular.
