Sea-U! Guest House, Barbados hotel review Visited: October 2004
Posted by ashley
I was lucky enough to be sent to Barbados on work this past week. So I flew out a couple of days early and stayed on the East coast, as I was looking for some peace and quiet.
This place was amazing. Talk about views and serenity! The other guests (there were five rooms, plus two cottages in the works) were wonderful, and it was great to eat breakfast and dinners together.
Bring your bug spray, or you're going to be scratching for days. This is not a place to stay if you want to go to the tourist-bars and night-clubs. Stay on the South coast for that. And taxis can be expensive. However, there are buses every hour to Bridgetown, and they cost around $1.50 US. I was in Barbados alone and had no problem taking the bus. It does get dark around 6 PM, so plan accordingly.
The rooms were clean and well maintained, they had no tv or telephone, but there was a telephone you could use if you needed to (free local calls) and an honor bar. The owner and the three sisters who worked there were very nice.
I couldn't have asked for a nicer stay! I don't usually travel to the same location twice, but I'm definitely planning on returning to the Sea-U!

We would recommend the Sea-U to anyone thinking of staying on the east coast. It surpassed our best expectations.
The food, optional, was really authentic and good, and the staff was great and very helpful - especially Uschi, the owner.
We're glad we didn't stay anywhere else. We hope it does not become too popular so that we won't be able to return, which we hope to do soon.

It is with great difficulty that I find the words to describe the beauty of this location, the comfort of the guest house, and the assistance all the staff provided during our stay.
They have undoubtedly laid claim to a prime piece of real estate right in the heart of Paradise, and chosen the best team to assist guests in recognizing such. Everyone was so fantastically helpful without ever imposing on the tranquility provided by Bathseba, the palm trees, and the hammocks.
Although dinner was always fabulous, thank you for affording us the opportunity and guidance to dine at some other terrific establishments on the beautiful East Coast.
I hope they do not ever consider televisions in the guestrooms.
Thank you again! We hope to "Sea-U" real soon.

Sea-U! Guest House, Barbados hotel review Visited: February 2003

The Guesthouse was perched on the side of a hill surrounded by lush vegetation and palm trees. Guests can enjoy lying in a hammock with their eyes closed, hear the endless roar of the surf at the bottom of the hill and feel the omnipresent Atlantic breeze rustling the trees. And through the leaves - the sun.
Breakfast and dinner were served outside, under cover and screened from the wind. As I ate, I saw a Green Monkey in a tree. A Lesser Antillean Bullfinch peeked his head under the linen covering the freshly baked coconut and banana bread. The resident cat wandered on the deck.
Seacat, one of the original Bathsheba surfers, works as the gardener here. He was friendly, smiling and talkative. Later in the afternoon, he cracked open a coconut for me. I drank the milk and ate the jelly.
The house was unusual in Bathsheba as it was constructed of wood, weathering nicely from the ocean breeze. Adjustable wood jalousies allowed cross ventilation to penetrate the rooms. A ceiling fan ensured nighttime comfort. A mosquito net covered the bed, although few bugs were apparent.
The nearby restaurants were all good. From the storied Atlantis Hotel to the more sophisticated Round House, none were disappointing.
The beach was spectacular. Giant rocks littered the shoreline, eroded at the bottom by the constant wave action. At low tide the relentless surf backed off to reveal the shoreline reef and sand bottomed tidal pools were exposed for soaking and splashing.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
