Shangri-La is located on a ridge in St. James opposite the Holders Hill polo field. The location of this villa is advantageous during the Polo season and the Holders Hill festival.

The villa was built in the 1690s; the entrance is lined with full mahogany trees and the grounds are appointed with many tropical plants, foliage, and fruit trees. The westerly views give an unobstructed 180-degree view of the Caribbean Sea. The design of the house is traditionally a Spanish hacienda, horseshoe-shaped which encloses a courtyard and coral fountain.

Large louvered doors open to the patio and courtyard. The patio is in the middle of the villa and is covered in clay tiles. Furnishing includes covered wicker sofa chairs, a dining table, and ceiling fans with chandelier lights suggesting the British colonial period. In the center of the courtyard is a three field coral fountain with carved dolphins. The courtyard has gates that open to the deck and large swimming pool. Comfortable sofas, chairs, lounges and umbrellas complete the setting.

The kitchen is to the side of the main house but is adjacent to the media room and dining area. In the kitchen, large work counters are located on either side with a center granite topped island. Amenities include dishwasher, stove, microwave, refrigerator, water softener, toaster, coffee maker, blender, juicer, waffle maker and all the cookware and servers. There is a butler area, laundry room, and washer/dryer, large refrigerator with an icemaker, maid’s quarters, sewing machine, and herb garden.

The media room and bar is outfitted with a flat-screen television with Blu-Ray, stereo, DVD, and CD enclosed in a custom designed cabinet. There is ample seating with a covered sectional, chairs, and cocktail tables. There is an adjacent powder room, full bath and shower. Table games and cards are provided.

The villa has four bedrooms each air-conditioned and professionally decorated to provide a comfortable home; each room named in accordance with the decor. First, the White Room is adjacent to the media room, with a queen-size bed, and a garden view all in white with an accent of British colonial mahogany furniture. There is an adjacent bathroom, which is shared with the Polo Room.

The Polo Room has two twin size beds, side table, antique mahogany armoire, and chest of drawers. The decor is decidedly polo with antique accents. This room has a flat-screen television with VCR. These two bedrooms are located in the south wing of the house.

In the north wing of the house are two more bedrooms. The Princess Margaret Room: this royal room has pictures of the princess and is outfitted with two canopy twin beds and flat-screen television with DVD player. There is a private en-suite bath with marble counters floor and gold fittings. Skylights bring sunlight into the room during the day and moon and stars at night.

The last room is the master bedroom. The Map Room, with a collection of island maps, has a queen-size, canopy bed, flat-screen television, stereo, large desk, two upholstered wing back chairs, and access to the garden.

All bathrooms are complete with hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, toothpaste, imported Italian soap, deodorant, every night your bed is turned down, complimentary ice water and sweets are provided.
