We found this to be a run down hotel. We received poor service, and were treated badly by the GM on site.

It feels like a home away from home. Visited: April 2006

This was our first time to Frangipani Beach Club and Anguilla. We were a bit worried after viewing all the bad reviews about the new general manager, but decided to give it a try, as the rates were appealing.

We had the honor of booking with a charming lady. At the end of the conversation, we knew we were going to Frangipani Beach Club and be blown away with a great room, wonderful service and friendly staff.

Tara (whom we booked with) had answers to all of our questions, and then offered to assist us in room spa services and dinner reservations. She recommended that we dine at the Plumeria Restaurant, since we would be too tired from the long flight to drive off property.

When we arrived, we were welcome by a lovely lady (Karen at the front desk). She offered us a complimentary rum punch, and we sat and checked in next to the pool. Our vacation was off to a good start.

The room we had was a Junior Suite. It was lovely, and had a wonderful view. The staff was helpful and friendly. We felt safe, and it felt like we were among family.

At dinner, we were hanging out with the girls at the restaurant (Ja-hidia and Elida). At breakfast, it was Jane and Sheman who informed us about the local happenings and where the hot dancing spots were.

The disappointing part of our vacation was leaving and saying goodbye. We will be back.

I rated it four stars because at most hotels, the general manager meets the guests at check in or at some point of their stay. This was never done with us. It’s all about going the extra mile for the guest.

This is a great boutique hotel. Visited: April 2006

What a find! The location and beach were incredible... white sand and turquoise water. The hotel was wonderful. It was a lovely Mediterranean style oasis.

Our suite had all brand new furniture and accessories. We were told that all the rooms were being renovated with new floors, showers, kitchens, furniture, etc.

Our unit just recently had the furniture completed and it was beautiful. It was quite tropical, cheerful and comfortable. Also, the brand new towels, robes, bedding and turn down service made this a five-star stay.

The complimentary continental breakfast was good. We loved the free Hobie Cats available on the beach. We've already booked again for next year!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. If you are looking for a very laid back, relaxing atmosphere, look no further. This is the place "to get away from it all".

Frangipani is a beautiful hotel with just the right price. Visited: April 2004

The hotel was beautiful and the beach was very long. I enjoyed watching the sunset. Breakfast was good with fresh fruits and juices. Also, some restaurants were close to the hotel.

There was no freezer in my room.

A nice and relaxing accommodation. Visited: July 2003

Frangipani is an excellent balance between renting a stand alone villa and a full service resort. They have a rather small number of rooms, but it is laid out so you don't feel crowded. Also, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful!

It was just what we wanted, so that is why I gave it five stars.

This is the best hotel to stay at in Anguilla! Visited: April 2003

My boyfriend and I recently returned from Anguilla and we had the time of our lives! Anguilla was the most beautiful place with tons or white beaches, excellent restaurants and friendly people. The island was a paradise with no crowds, not many kids, and no beggars bothering you on the beach. It is a perfect vacation spot for couples who are looking to go to a romantic, relaxing, and private island.

The Frangipani was an amazing hotel on one of the most beautiful, white beaches, Mead's Bay. The rooms were all suites with huge bedrooms, two bathrooms, tile floors, AC, full kitchens, two private terraces and washer/dryer (so nice to have).

We ate our breakfast every morning out on our terrace and also enjoyed wonderful lunches and dinners at The Frangipani Restaurant. They had excellent food and a beautiful patio overlooking the beach.

The staff at Frangipani was so courteous and helpful. They were always willing to recommend restaurants and things to do. We took a fabulous day trip on the catamaran, Chocolat, and also spent a day over in St. Martin.

The only thing you won't like about Anguilla is when you have to leave!

Perfect if you want peace, quiet, and great food. Visited: April 2003

I've read the previous reviews and had to weigh in as I have just returned from my honeymoon and it's been a few months since anyone posted.

My husband and I were very pleased with our choice. The beach was the best on the island and almost deserted during our entire stay. We never encountered another person in the pool. The pool bar was not open, but the restaurant was - day and night. It was elegant, delicious, and the wait staff was friendly and gracious.
Expensive? Yes, but so was every restaurant on the island.

We were also upgraded without asking to a two-room suite that was huge with three balconies, two baths, kitchen, and washer/dryer. We often didn't use the air conditioning - it was much more beautiful to just keep the doors open. But the air conditioning was not freezing if that's what you really require. It was adequate.

The kitchen was a bit dated, but they had cable TV, which was all the multi-media needed on a vacation. The grounds were lovely and the front office was charming. They arranged for our car when we needed and provided free snorkeling. I felt it was the best place for honeymooners as it was so private, quiet and peaceful. If you are looking for wild night life, this is not the place for you.

The few children who were here (there weren't many) were very well mannered and enjoyable to be around. We had tons of privacy up on the second floor (which you may want to request if this is a desire for your vacation). We had some small water issues which were addressed, and I believe there was a water shortage all over the island so we tried to be understanding.

I would definitely go to Frangiapani again if I were to return to Anguilla (plus the larger more elaborate resorts were twice the cost, which we spent on incredible meals!).

Quiet elegance in a gorgeous setting. Visited: August 2002
Posted by scottiza
My husband, two kids (ages 6 and 11) and I fully enjoyed our 2 week stay here. This was an exceptionally beautiful property on a picture perfect beach.

We were upgraded to a two room suite which was enormous - including living room, dining room, 4 balconies, a full kitchen, 3 bathrooms and a washer/drier. We spent a majority of our time by the generously-sized pool on thick foam mats or on comfortable lounge chairs. Mornings or evenings were at the beach - powder soft sand, warm, clear water.

Service at the hotel was friendly and attentive. The staff always greeted us with smiles, and the maid service tried to schedule her daily cleaning around us.

Mead's Bay was the second nicest on the island, just after Shoal Bay East. We toured through the other high end hotels, and while the properties were indeed impressive, the beaches did not compare to Mead's Bay. Further, the Frangiapani style was elegant and classy, yet not flashy as one finds at a few other hotels.

Like many places on Anguilla, there appeared to be development in the works around Frangiapani - so, check to see if construction is planned or in process. At the time of our visit, there were only a few small repairs going on at the hotel.

Would I return to this hotel? Were I to return to Anguilla, this is exactly where I would go - no question about it. However, as peaceful, beautiful and relaxing as Anguilla is, we are not likely to return in the near future. We prefer an island with better snorkeling, and a better choice of restaurants below the very top-priced gourmet options.

Further, as vegetarians (we do eat pasta, cheese and eggs - just no meat or fish), it was hard finding much to eat.

Why not give this a 5 star? My personal "5 star" offers a bit more. The property (it's in the Virgin Islands) is also gorgeous, has a huge pool, live Caribbean music most days by the pool, and offers more affordable meals. (It is still isolated, and far from casinos, "nightlife" and cruise boats.)

Frangiapani is an excellent choice for those looking for understated elegance, relaxation and quiet in a stunning setting.

A quiet resort. Visited: May 2002

The Frangipani Beach Club was small, intimate, and quiet. That's what we wanted and that's what we got.

The beach sand was clean and soft, the water was fairly calm and beautiful. There were very few people. We enjoyed a very pretty setting, with nice views.

The accommodations were large, but the air conditioning in living area was not great. The people on the island were very friendly.

A great vacation with the kids. Visited: March 2002
Posted by ahjennings
This was our third trip to Anguilla, an island which we love. Previously, we had rented private homes, but decided to try Frangipani this time.

It was the perfect set-up for a family with three kids. We were on the ground floor and our patio door opened out toward the beach, about 20 feet away. The pool, about 50 feet the other direction, was perfect for our children. It had shallow areas, large wide steps and a deeper diving area.

We were looking for a low key, peaceful spring break and found that this was just what we wanted. Location, location, location! You could overlook some of the minor drawbacks of the hotel because of the fabulous location on Meads Bay.

There were some things that could be updated or changed. First, the rooms could be refreshed, including new more modern appliances, newer TVs, the addition of some sort of entertainment systems (no VCR, DVD player or stereo system), and an updated phone and message system. It was sometimes difficult to dial out and messages were taken in person at the front desk.

Second, the grounds could use a bit of a facelift. Although there was some ongoing planting while we were there, the landscape did need some new life. The parking areas could use some work. And the driveway and parking area was a bit difficult to maneuver if there was any traffic coming or going.

Third, the pool bar area should be opened to serve snacks, beverages and lunch. It had not been used, yet I understood it was because occupancy had not been high enough at one time to warrant it. Therefore, we had to go to the restaurant, which had a great patio on the beach, or fix lunch in our room if we wanted to eat at the hotel.

If you are looking for a big resort where you are constantly waited on, you eat every meal out by the pool, where there are many scheduled activities, and where there are lots of kids on the beach and in the pool, this is NOT the place for you.

But, if you want a relaxing vacation with a perfect setup between beach and pool that is great for kids (easy for them to run between the two), where you can choose to eat at the restaurant or fix your own meal in your room, and where the staff is friendly and knows you, then you will enjoy Frangipani.

Very overpriced, underserviced for what it is Visited: January 2002
Posted by craig_ox
Having stayed several times in Anguilla at all the best resorts, we were interested to see how Frangipani would stack up when one of the other luxury hotels could not accommodate our schedule. We booked the penthouse suite, and indeed it did sound good in the written and posted descriptions. The physical plant is actually quite attractive--nice, Mediterranean exterior, large rooms with appropriate floor planning, decent bathrooms.

Before you go, here is what you should know:
1. It is right next door to an ongoing construction project called Turtles Nest. Even when they are not making noise, it is an eyesore.
2. When you drive in, it is a complete let-down, unlike M, Cap, or Cuisinart.
You pull into a dirt driveway where all the staff park their cars, and the water
and garbage trucks make their deliveries, notwithstanding the fact that there is an ample pair of parking lots only 50 yards away.
3. The front entrance is very uninviting, starting with the unplanted front yard, and the reception area.
4. There is insufficient hot water. After 3 showers(wife and two kids), there was none left.
5. The air conditioner compressor units are directly outside the windows of the rooms, which makes you feel like you are on a cruising boat all night long.
6. There is no ATT Direct available, nor do any of the 1-800 numbers work from the hotel.
7. There is a pool and a pool bar, it is true, but during our entire stay, the pool bar was not open even once, nor did any of the staff come by at all the see if you wanted to order anything by the pool.
8. There are only four permanent umbrellas on the beach, for a hotel with many times that occupancy.
9. They do not clean up the beach at the end of the day. Cups, old towels,
chairs in disarray.

A picture-perfect spot. Visited: November 2001
Posted by wlivingston
I have read all the reviews that have been submitted and agree with most of them.

This will be my husband's and my fourth trip to Anguilla, and our third stay at Frangipani. We like to travel the beginning of November and stay two weeks. Hopefully it is after hurricane season, as our first trip to Anguilla was during a Hurricane!

If you are looking for a small, private, beautiful setting, then Frangipani is the place for you.

We have had several different one-bedroom suites. All were spacious with all the necessities of home and spectacular views of the ocean. I did not have any problems with air conditioner noises. The only sound we heard was the sound of the waves hitting the beach and lulling us to sleep.

The location of Frangipani is ideal. It is on Meads Bay with 2 1/2 miles of powder-white sand beach.

If you are looking for quiet and relaxation than this is the spot to come. If you want a lot of entertainment and action...than Anguilla is not the island for you.

The staff at Frangipani is friendly and courteous. Mr. Valentin and his group are attentive to your needs with out being intrusive. Also, I have always found the grounds to be in perfect condition with beautiful plantings and manicured to perfection.

I only have positive things to say about Frangipani, and will continue to go to the island and enjoy its beautiful beaches, warm people and great restaurants.

I am looking forward to my return to Frangipani and Anguilla this November 2002.

One last note...I do reccommend having a jeep to tour the island. If you don't, you are missing out on many more beautiful beaches, dining, and so much more.

Get to know the island, its people, and all it has to offer. You will be hooked!

A peaceful retreat is found at Frangipani Beach Club. Visited: July 2001
Posted by hyoo
We went to Frangipani for our honeymoon. We were looking for quiet time to ourselves on a beachfront property and that is exactly what we got.

Given that we went during low season, we had the entire beach to ourselves most of the time. Frangipani sat on Mead's Bay and it's the second best beach on Aguilla (second to Shoal Bay).

We arrived expecting one large hotel room, but we got an entire suite on the lower level just steps from the beach. We didn't expect two bathrooms, a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. Perhaps we were upgraded because it was available. The loud air conditioning kept us from hearing the ocean waves during the night.

They did have rental cars available and we probably drove on all paved and half of unpaved roads on Anguilla. It was enlightening to see the culture and the natives go about their everyday life. Anguilla is dependent on tourism and the natives know this, so people you come across are all friendly.

The food was great. We had a package and ate our breakfast, lunch and one dinner at their restaurant. The restaurant was of five-star quality. We went to other restaurants on the island and found high quailty food there as well. However, it was all very expensive.

The service was average. No one really went out of their way to check on us or converse with us, not even small talk. The waitstaff was very professional, but could have smiled more.

Communication between the resort staff and guests was a slightly lacking. We did receive daily letters and flowers once. Some things that we thought were included in our package turned out to be no longer avaliable. We assumed our picnic boat trip to an island was going to leave from Mead's bay, but it left from the other side of the island and we were not notified of this.

Would we go back again? Probably no, there are too many islands in the Caribbean to repeat any place twice. We enjoyed our time and now have great memories of Anguilla and Frangipani Beach Club.

If you want a quiet Caribbean beach to yourselves (in low season and before construction started down the beach), we would recommend Frangipani.

The most wonderful place to stay on Anguilla! Visited: January 2000
Posted by ATraveler
The accommodations are spacious, comfortable, and well decorated. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is excellent (pricey, but no more so than any other restaurant on Anguilla). But the thing that keeps me coming back is that beautiful beach, just a few steps outside your door. No hotel lobbies to schlep through to get to the beach and nothing to obstruct that gorgeous view. It is, indeed, heavenly!!

Perfect family location Visited: January 2000
Posted by mark_wp
If it was the start of the season I would have probably given Frangipani 5 stars - as it was, it was the tail end so things weren't 100% perfect and we had hurricane Debby to contend with.

The Hotel was very spacious and well maintained with a very friendly staff (and on-site owners to assist). They were the only people to offer a 3 bedroom (all doubles with onsuite) linked apartment. The lounge and master bedroom were on the beach (10 meters max). This was perfect for us as we had 4 kids and they all had their own (shared) rooms without cramping the lounge/kitchen and bathrooms.

The Pool was 20 meters from the beach and our patio and the bar - perfect for keeping an eye on the kids.

At the end of August the weather was fantastic (hot with cool breeze) and the beach on Meads Bay was empty.

Okay, so here are the small downsides if you want to pick ... the restaurant lacked atmosphere, you needed a car to see the other beaches, it doesn't have some of the "sparkle" and facilities of the big new complexes if you're a pampered jet-setter.

The Island felt 100% safe (my wife drove and shopped alone with the kids happily at all times), the people were always helpful and the beaches were like the most perfect postcards.

All in all, it was a fantasic holiday and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Let's hope Anguilla resists the temptation to over-develop.

The perfect get-away! Visited: January 2000

Frangipani has to be the best kept secret in the Caribbean - not to mention Anguilla. We toured the island, visited other resorts and hotels...... Frangipani wins!

The island is bordered by beautiful white sand beaches with very little commercialism. For those who enjoy comfortable surroundings, beautiful sunsets, wonderful food and spectacular wine lists, this is the place.
