Rendezvous Bay Hotel was one of the first hotels built on Anguilla in the 1960s, and is still owned by the same family. The 60-acre property is on arguably one of the nicest beaches on the island, overlooking St. Maarten, sheltered from any potential high winds and waves with some of the finest swimming I've ever seen - no rocks, no seaweed, just clear clear water and beautiful powdery sand.

This is not a 5 star resort - the landscaping is minimal and resort has a bit of a "tired" look to it that could stand some refreshing. However, what it lacks in those aspects it completely makes up in charm. Service is warm and friendly, there is a very relaxed atmosphere here and Bart, the manager, will do most anything he can to ensure you have a nice stay.

My two teenage daughters and I stayed in an upstairs villa room which I would highly recommend. These rooms are directly on the beach, are clean, bright and attractive. They have screens and ceiling fans (a/c, too - if you wish to use it), full bath and a balcony that overlooks the beach, St. Maarten and a sunset every night.

A steady breeze kept them very comfortable. We locked up our money in the office safe and rarely locked our room after that. Beds were comfortable and clean, sheets changed every few days. We had a small refrigerator in our room and a coffeemaker and cups (some villa rooms have kitchenettes).

Room service is available if you wish to dine on your balcony at any meal. If you do stay in a villa be aware that it is a bit of a walk to the restaurant and office so if you are physically challenged you might need a car. There is a phone in the room, but no television.

The restaurant, Cedar Grove, is excellent. I never had a disappointing meal in the evening and the entree prices range from $22 - $35. The menu is imaginative and the food well presented. Service is very good, though not as attentive as we have come to expect in the US. A "special" is offered each night featuring soup, salad and entree. The lunch menu needs some updating, but breakfast is fine. Saturday is lobster night and Sunday is a Caribbean buffet that is outstanding, done out under the stars, lit by torches and includes live music.

Daytimes are spent swimming. Beach towels, chairs and umbrellas are provided. Snorkeling can be done from the beach (we brought our own masks). There is a large game room with a ping pong table, a pool table, large TV with many cable channels, chess, cards and an exchange library.

Cabs are expensive here - rental cars are a good deal and I would recommend one.

We enjoyed 10 wonderful days at Rendevous Bay. The Ocean Villas right on the beach were fantastic with beautiful views of St. Maarten. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We have already made reservations to return the same time next year.

We spent the weekend at the Rendevous to attend a close friend's wedding.

The hotel was perfect, the employees were very nice, and the scenery was beautiful.

Most of all, I miss Earl and Prince (the Golden Retrievers). We can't wait to return later this year!

5.0 stars This is one of the classic Caribbean hotels. Visited: November 2002

Cut to the chase and book yourself into one of the original Caribbean hotels. I recommend you book one of the villas on the beach. But even if they are not available, you will enjoy your stay here because there is a family spine to the atmosphere here that means all your problems disappear. It's simple, but don't confuse that with unsophistication. These guys know what they are doing. If you are travelling to Anguilla, stay at Rendezvous Bay.

5.0 stars Let's go home .... to Rendezvous. Visited: August 2002

Which is what we would say after a late morning or early afternoon trip away from this intimate welcoming property. We had planned on doing much more exploring on Anguilla, but found ourselves drawn back to Rendezvous to relish the almost complete solitude on the sparkling white beach.

We stayed in one of the upper Beach Villa rooms for our honeymoon and enjoyed a great view of the bay, St. Martin, and Cuisinart. What a treat to sleep with the balcony doors open and have the gentle caress of the breeze and the hypnotic swoosh of the gentle water washing onto the shore. The room was quite large, very clean, light and airy.

Even with being short-staffed at the end of their low season, any request was quickly and unobtrusively met. Everyone we talked to here was so friendly and acommodating.

We had breakfast each day on the terrace overlooking the bay, either before or after a romp on the beach with Prince. We still miss the croissants or baguettes served daily. We had dinner there at Cedar Grove or in our room, and then one night at Smokey's. All were excellent with great food and relaxed, friendly service in a cozy, casually elegant setting.

Our final night, we were treated to a surprise torch-lit dinner served at sunset in front of our villa on the beach. What an absolutely romantic, wonderful meal. This experience more than made up for a minor glitch at check-in that they felt worse about than we did.

I'm not sure when, but we will definitely go back home to Rendezvous.

4.0 stars Rendevous Bay is a beautiful beach villa on a great beach! Visited: February 2002

We just returned from another stay here, and booked next year (2003) already.

The Beach Villa is large, clean and directly on the beach with a great view of St. Martin. The maid service and all the employees could not be more friendly or helpful.

The 2.5 mile long beach, perhaps the very best on the island, is perfect for swimming with little wave action and gradual slope. Often, we could see less than five people in view.

The food at the hotel is as good as it gets, with favorable pricing. The 60-acre property assures privacy and a true island experience. The location is ideal, and any spot on the island can be reached easily.

The tennis court is in fine shape. Also, the room prices are modest and the hotel provides the best bet for the buck. It's a place that is hard to beat, as the high number of us "repeaters" shows!

5.0 stars Beautiful beaches, nice people - a wonderful place! Visited: February 2002

We went to Anguilla for ten days and stayed at Rendezvous Bay Hotel. It was our third stay here.

We absolutely loved it here. We stayed on the beach, which was magnificent! We fished on the old pier. Also, the two Golden Retrievers, Prince and Earl, became our best friends and we look forward to our visits each year.

The staff at Rendezvous Bay Hotel were the nicest people. We can't wait to come back each year!

5.0 stars A room right on the beach. Visited: November 2001

We just returned from Anguilla and stayed for 10 days in one of the villa rooms on the beach. It’s beautiful; you walk right on the sand in the sea. The beach is spectacular, deserted as said in a previous post—it’s safe. We found the rooms to be spacious, clean and if we needed something extra our maid would deliver it. Their restaurant is superb, nice menu, no more honor bar though.

We rented a car for a couple of days, but decided we liked our beach the best, so stayed there most of the day, reading and hanging out and ordering room service or walking up to the restaurant.

Concluding: the location is great, price is affordable. We will be back.

3.0 stars Stunning white sandy beach! Visited: March 2001

Located on a beautiful deserted sandy beach about a mile from the Royal Sonesta, with a
stunning view of St. Martin across the bay. The price was pretty good and the staff at
Rendezvous Bay was extremely friendly. The snorkeling equipment was not the best, but
we strolled along the beach up to where you could rent equipment for $5. There was some
nice live coral there, too. The bay in front of Rendezvous is pretty much all sand, with no
coral reef. About the only downside to the Rendezvous Bay was that there were
mosquitoes in the room. Be sure to bring lots of bug spray.

4.0 stars Privacy & quiet at a great price Visited: January 2000

The villas at Rendezvous Bay are directly on a gorgeous white-sand beach, with balconies that open to the breeze. Though the restaurant serves only that day's catch, and you must sign up in advance, these villas are within driving distance of many other fine restaurants, including the one at Ferryboat Inn.

The best part was the price: for far below what other resorts on Anguilla charge, we had a clean, spacious villa on a great beach with tons of privacy.
