Near the St. James's Club, in an open-sided pavilion lavishly draped with bougainvillea. The owners' frequent travels have inspired the menu's satisfying medley of Italian, French, and Continental dishes. The best of these include ravioli stuffed either with asparagus and shrimp or mascarpone cheese and sage-flavored butter; a zesty pasta with fresh local clams; savory stuffed crabs; and one of our favorites, fresh wahoo steak with a sautéed onion, garlic, and rosemary sauce. Lobster, a popular item here, is boiled in seawater, then grilled and served simply, usually with garlic-flavored butter. Open for dinner only. Closed Monday and annually from July to October. As the heart of partying in Falmouth Harbour, Mad Mongoose now owned and managed by Connie and Bill continues to be THE place to go for a buzzing, lively atmosphere, to meet yachties and locals, and generally have a great time.
Live music nights on Friday’s and a DJ on Wednesday's means the bar is literally jam packed – and fellow revelers are pouring out onto the open patio, and out back to the newly added pool room and back bar. Every other night of the week the music is upbeat and impromptu dancing can get the whole place rocking until well into the early hours.
For the more sports minded or obsessed – there are two pool tables and foosball table where locals and ex-pats get to challenge each other deep into the night.
The colorful long bar is home to many regulars, and is the home of partying during the big sailing events taking place in the area each year. There is a huge choice of beers, spirits, and cocktails (rum by the pint)!
The bar opens daily from 11 am during season, and 3 pm from Friday to Monday during off season.
The Mad Mongoose has a reputation for BIG food at small prices – this is the place to come if you are hungry! – and opens daily for lunch from 11 am-5 pm during season and every day for dinner from 6:30 -10 pm. During off season, it is open from 3 pm until late from Friday to Monday with dinner from 6:30 -10 pm. Happy Hour is from 4 pm-7 pm with bar snacks available.
There is a set lunch menu with a variety of soups, pizzas, salads, burgers and sandwiches. The dinner menu changes daily, although the steak and Guinness pie has become a house specialty. You will also find fresh fish, pasta and seafood featuring daily. The burgers are 100% meat and LARGE. The starters are ideal as a snack if you are not so hungry – or if you get the munchies during the evening.
Even though the dinner menu changes the prices stay the same – starters EC$25, mains EC$40 (excluding steak and lobster), burgers EC$30 and desserts EC$12-15. At those prices you will have plenty of money left to spend back in the bar!
Free Wi-Fi internet access and complementary electricity inside and outside.

"When we arrived in Codrington Village and inquired about a good restaurant, The Palm Tree Restaurant was recommended. We ate lunch there at a table adorned with fresh flowers and a hand-crocheted tablecloth. I dined on a huge lobster, which came accompanied by red beans and rice, salad, mixed vegetables, homemade bread, and a frothy orange soda. The food was incredibly prepared and easily rivaled anything you would have at a five-star restaurant. Lose yourself for hours in the hospitality, mouth watering food and abundant drinks at Russell’s Fort James.
For lovers of history Fort James dating back to 1739 has the most spectacular military heritage in Antigua, and still has its full complement of cannons in place. The historic site of the restaurant was rebuilt in 2005 by Russell Hodge, (also responsible for the restoration of the now famous Shirley Heights in 1981) and now offers a fantastic venue for lunch, lazy afternoon drinks, sundowners and dining late into the evening.
True to his Antiguan heritage Russell offers authentic Caribbean dining, with excellent seafood the specialty of the house. Daily fresh lobster, shrimp, snapper and conch, along with steak and chicken complete this simple yet tasty menu.
For anyone looking for a venue for a wedding, birthday or any other celebration or private function the second floor of the restaurant with its wrap around gallery, and stunning views is the perfect location. Just tell Russell your requirements and he and his team will organize the night to your exacting requirements.
A great place to make new friends and take in the sheer beauty of the North West coast, ensure Russell’s Fort James is added to your list of things you must do when in Antigua.

(more)The view from Shirley Heights Lookout is without question the most famous view on the beautiful island of Antigua in the Caribbean. Located within the National Parks, overlooking English and Falmouth Harbours, this panoramic view, on clear days takes in Guadeloupe to the south and Montserrat with it's still active volcano to the south west.
Shirley Heights Lookout is home to the 'biggest and best' party on the island every Sunday for the last 25 years where crowds of visitors and locals converge from 4 pm to reserve their spot to watch the most wonderful view of the sunset on the island, as the Steel Band plays. The entrance fee is only EC$20 which is great value for money. From 7 pm the Soca, Reggae and Calypso music takes over and the partying really starts. As hunger strikes there is an excellent barbecue with a huge selection of dishes to choose from.
If you are prefer the views, but don’t like crowds there is an excellent Thursday party from 4 pm to 8 pm with the Steel Band playing, where the atmosphere is more laid back.
Shirley Heights Lookout is open from 9 am to 10 pm for lunch and dinner every day apart from Monday when it closes at Sundown. It is a wonderful place to meet with friends, or stop off on your island tour for a mouthwatering selection of Caribbean food. There is a choice of dining indoors in the 18th Century building or outdoors on the terrace.
Shirley Heights refers to the military complex along the whole ridge leading up to the Lookout. The complex is mainly in ruins, except for Shirley Heights Lookout. Restoration began in 1981 and was spearheaded by Russell Hodge, co-owner and Director.
Russell had always been passionate about the Lookout's possibilities. This came into sharp focus on a Sailing Week morning, when having watched the races begin from Shirley Heights Lookout, he realized that persons were heading off to breakfast in English Harbour. The Lookout, now a successful business, is managed by sister J. Valerie Hodge.
Aside from the bar and restaurant, Shirley Heights Lookout is happy to organize catering for parties elsewhere on the island, and has mouth watering varieties of local cuisine on offer. The Lookout is the perfect place for large functions, family parties, and of course weddings. Crew parties can be organized on request. (close) |

Its location is unbeatable - front and center on Antigua's most happening beach, Dickenson Bay, walking distance from over seven hotels and just a five minute drive from St. John's. The restaurant draws from Caribbean, Asian, and other contemporary tropical styles with its open architecture, teak furniture, lush gardens. The tecno-ethnic design mixes both modern and traditional elements making this location one of the most beautiful restaurants in Antigua.
After dinner, the bar and lounge invite you to relax and talk story. With hundreds of CD's the DJ can meet any request and they have live entertainment several times a week. "The beach", in a short time, has already become one the most happening spots on the north side of Antigua.
