2.0 stars Disappointing. Visited: June 2003

My fiance and I were looking for a place to go within one week after a very hectic year with work and graduate school schedules. We booked the trip on one Sunday and left the following. This did not leave us with adequate time to research the facility before we booked. If we had, we would likely not have chosen the Yepton.

While we came home feeling quite relaxed, there just wasnt enough to do after dinner to keep your pulse going. We are not big partying people, but something to mildly stimulate the mind would have been nice. Our window air conditioner in the room did not work and there was no effort made to fix it, so it was too hot to keep the lights on after dark in your room. The mosquitoes would eat you alive if you stayed outside and watched tv in the bar area. We never saw the calypso band that was reported to be part of the resort.

In an effort to find a calypso band, Captain Spencer (the resorts taxi driver) took us around the hill to the Galley Bay where music was scheduled for the evening. However, upon our arrival (and after the taxi left) we were told that my fiance could not be allowed onto the resort without long pants. We asked the rude front desk attendant to contact Captain Spencer for us. Captain Spencer returned within 10 minutes and we were still charged $20 for the taxi ride (literally less than a 5 minute ride)!

The best thing about Yepton was the secluded beaches during the daytime hours. There were only about two or three other people staying at the resort and the only time we saw them was at dinner.

The lack of food and refreshments was also quite frustrating. I was chronically dehydrated. If you missed breakfast, lunch or dinner, you werent going to get anything to drink!!!

There were also many little bugs in the bathroom. They, unlike the mosquitoes, did not bite. However, it just made your skin crawl to see them all over the vanity area and inside the sink and shower. At night, if the lights were left on, you had mosquitoes in the room too.

I hate to give anyone a bad review, but I honestly could not recommend the Yepton.

5.0 stars I can't wait to go back! Visited: January 2002

Upon arriving in Antigua, we were taxied to the resort where we were supposed to stay. They had overbooked, and we thought our honeymoon was off to a rocky start. The management offered to put us up for two nights at the Yepton, and then bring us back. After one night, we called and said we wanted to stay at the Yepton for our entire honeymoon.

If you are looking for a place to just kick back, relax and enjoy the slow pace of the islands (and multiple Wadadli's, the local lager), the Yepton is the place for you. We found the food to be excellent and the wait staff to be very friendly and helpful (especially Augustine, our favorite).

The resort was beautiful and secluded. There were no private beaches on the island, but the beach at Yepton's was not contiguous to any other resort or occupied property, so you might only see 5-10 other people at peak hours.

The Royal, next door was packed with people. We felt very fortunate we were bumped to the Yepton. We can't wait to go back.

Touring with Captain Spencer is a must! His knowledge of the island is second to none. Ask for him by name at the taxi stand out front.

4.0 stars Very friendly, relaxed, and beautiful! Visited: December 2001

What a lovely place! It's not really a resort per se, although there is a tennis court and swimming pool. Yepton is more of a place to come to relax without distractions. The restaurant is decent, but the crown jewels are the perfect and rather secluded beach, as well as the beautiful, air-conditioned accommodations.

Yepton is small enough that you can become familiar with the other visitors, but large enough for privacy if you choose. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. An added benefit is the huge resort hotel just down the road--you can get all the windsurfing, boat tours, etc. that you want without having to stay there. Yepton is very family-friendly, as well. I love this place and can't wait to get back!

5.0 stars A dream honeymoon. Visited: October 2001

My wife and I experienced a dream honeymoon. It was perfect in every regard.

The Yepton's staff was friendly and helped us to feel welcome and at home. Gabriela, Augustine, and Ms. Mayers from Trinidad were great hostesses.

The food was delicious and we enjoyed the variety at the restaurant.

One of the best things about Yepton was the secluded beach. Imagine half a mile of white sand in a lovely private beach!

The rooms were also spacious and well kept.

In short, Yepton was an ideal hotel to relax and get away from it all. We look forward to returning here some day for our anniversary.

3.0 stars Casual, nice place to stay Visited: January 2000

Yepton was our honeymoon destination, and on arrival we were a bit disappointed. We were on the bottom floor, with a very small sitting area outside the door. The beach was right off the patio, very small private beach. Nice, but not one of Antigua's best.

Yepton's charm was the quaint setting with only 30 rooms, it was easy to meet people, especially at the small bar by the pool. Food was ok, but there was a wonderful restaurant called the Blue Lagoon that was in walking distance (only walking distance, it was on top of a hill)!

Our room was ok; we met a hotel designer while by the pool that was there to meet with the owner, so it could very well be updated by our next trip to Antigua.

Suggestions:
Sign up for the catamaran with the free sunset cruise, and hire Sunny the cab driver (usually out front) to take you to Shirley Heights on Sunday night. Try to share a cab if you can, since it seems everyone that stays at the Yepton is as friendly and casual as the Yepton is quaint and casual.

5.0 stars It was wonderful! Visited: January 2000

The beach was terrific, not crowded. The staff were friendly and helpful. Jenny, the beach vendor was a trip and you couldn't help but like her.

We did Captain Shorty's Glass Bottom Boat Tour from here and it was splendid. Also Captain Spencer was a wonderful tour guide who gave us a tremendous amount of information about the Island.

I would recommend the Yepton to everybody with absolutely no hesitation. It was paradise!

4.0 stars Wonderful quiet resort! Visited: January 2000

Our ground floor room was right on a beautiful and secluded north facing beach, so we got a constant wind. The (limited) watersports can be difficult for beginners. It's quiet out of season; we had the beach and pool to ourselves. Do consider the Captain Shortie trip; the catarmaran trip was too crowded and expensive.

Food and service were good. If booking direct, discounts are available out of peak holidays. Great value and unpretentious!

3.0 stars Quiet, Low-key, Relaxing Visited: January 2000

We spent a little over 2 weeks at Yepton. We stayed in a ground floor 1-bedroom suite, which looked directly out at the sea. The accommodations were very nice. Nice furniture, bright colors, well-appointed kitchen. The patio was very small with just 2 chairs and a tiny snack table. We did spend a lot of time out there, enjoying the wonderful tradewinds. We cooked our own breakfasts each day and ate out on the tiny patio.

We ate in the resort restaurant only 2 times. It was adequate, but nothing special.
We had a rental car for our entire stay, so we did enjoy the many fine restaurants Antigua has to offer.

The beach by Yepton is okay. We walked it every morning, but never swam in it. Again, we found many wonderful beaches on the island to spend our days. The small swimming pool at Yepton was nice and relaxing at the end of the day.

The staff was very obliging and very friendly. We especially liked the small bar, which is a nice place to meet and socialize with some of the other guests.

There is no TV or radio in the room. We were glad we brought a radio with us. Being there in the summer (June 22 to July 9), air-conditioning was necessary. There was a wall unit in the living area, which made that area very cold, but the bedroom never adequately cooled down. If we were to return to Antigua, we would probably stay at the Yepton again.
