Barrymore Beach Club is still the best! Visited: December 2005 |

We've stayed in Antigua six times - three of which were at the BBC.
They have a great restaurant now. Also, the units are just feet from the beach. They have their own rental car and a phone in their office. There is enough to do within walking distance to keep you busy. But you'll want a car for a day to visit the tropical rainforest.
The owners are great, and the place is great. I whole-heartedly recommend Barrymore Beach Club for anyone who wants a nice relaxing stay. |

The was the best place to stay. Our travel agent booked the wrong room for us - and when we asked about getting an upgrade, it was taken care of right away.
The staff was very pleasant and friendly, and the beach was great. If you are looking for some place quiet, friendly and beautiful - this is the place to be. |

Paradise found (so long as you have a car). Visited: November 2002 |

We picked this hotel looking for a nice and quiet place: we picked it correctly!
The property was surrounded by palm trees and green grass, and it had a lovely tiny beach in front of a deep blue sea. When we first arrived, we thought: "That's a paradise!".
We were lucky because, even though we booked a standard room, we got un upgrade to an apartment. It had a lounge with a fridge, kitchenette, a nice bedroom and spacious bathroom.
The Mexican restaurant was good, but we only had a light lunch once, so we do not know how it was like for dinner.
The only downside was a lack of a public telephone. We didn't have any mobile with us, therefore we had some problems even to contact the car rental!
Also, we had a lot of mosquitoes in the room that were really enjoying us. We made big use of repellant, but it may have been a seasonal thing.
Go for Barrymore Beach if you like quietness, relaxation, friendly staff (if you meet them!), but do rent a car to wander around the island - it is a jewel! |

A quiet retreat in Antigua Visited: June 2002 |

This small and private resort is a gem in the Caribbean. It is a resort that is for someone who wants to get away in solitude.
It had the most beautiful garden in the world…so many exotic plants and birds. I went with my family (a party of six) and we stayed in the two-bedroom deluxe suite. The room was very clean. The maids were extremely friendly and helpful.
The beach was private and cute. Try to get a room facing the beach so you can hear the tides splash against the shores…you will get a pleasing sensation. You must eat at the Casino/restaurant across the street from Barrymore…it serves the best food on the island. You also get live music on Saturdays.
You can also go to the beach restaurant next to Sandals that is within walking distance from Barrymore. My family and I had the most fun on the all-day cruise around the island. Oprah Winfrey is building her private resort on the island, and Eric Clapton has a mansion on a steep hill on the island…you will see them when you go on the cruise.
You must take a trip to St. Johns to truly understand the beauty of this island. Don’t worry about a car…taxis are plentiful around the island.
The downsides were that the front office closed at 5:00 p.m., and there were no phones and no AC. |

A relaxed, peaceful environment in beautiful surroundings. Visited: June 2002 |

Beautifully landscaped grounds combined with a peaceful, intimate atmosphere make Barrymore an ideal vacation spot.
It's within walking distance of a few restaurants, a convenience store and a casino. Taxis are reasonable and the resort is a 10-minute taxi ride outside of St. John's. Resort staff is responsive and extremely courteous, often sending requested items up to our room (e.g., beach towels, an iron).
The only real downer is a lack of phone access; there's no payphone on the premises, and only one phone in the restaurant (which, of course, closes eventually). Take a cell phone with you.
The restaurant personnel is very friendly, but we didn't eat at the Amigos (on-site Mexican restaurant) so I can't rate the food.
They have a small, but lovely beach. The rooms are very clean, balconies afford beautiful views with great tropical breezes, and the air conditioning is completely unnecessary. The huge porches on second floor apartments are a big plus. Barrymore offers a relaxing, enjoyable respite from hot, busy days and nights exploring Antigua. |

Nice rooms, near water, that's it. Visited: April 2002 |

My wife and I honeymooned here in April of 2002. The proximity to the water was nice and the rooms were clean. Unfortunately, the place is located on the wrong side of the island in our opinion.
St. Johns was dirty and smelly except for the duty free area. We even found a nice French restaurant for breakfast there. The Barrymore management did not keep regular hours or act to facilitate any activities. It was difficult to even make phone calls. We tried for days to set up a sailing trip with no luck. It was difficult to find any place nearby to get a coffee and the only night life was at the all-inclusives.
We went to Nelson's dock yard one day and that area was much nicer. If you are looking for a reasonably priced room near the water and peace and quiet, this place is nice. We spent most of our time elsewhere - rent a car. |

There is a nice private beach to enjoy at Barrymore Beach Club. Visited: March 2002 |

I was pleased to find that this hotel looked as nice as showne in the pictures.
We had a car, but the on-site Mexican restaurant was very good and there were several more restuarants/bars within walking distance.
My only complaint with the room was the lack of air conditioning, not because it was hot, but because of the noise from the neighboring rooms.
If you are looking for a nice, small, clean, private place - this is for you. But bring some earplugs in case you have noisy neighbors! |

Although Antigua has been hurt by drought, this small property was lush and green. The staff was very pleasant. It is located right on a tiny beach, but just around a few rocks was a very long beach.
The little restaurant served mostly Mexican food and was closed one day a week. My upstairs room had a water view and a small refrigerator. You can walk to several restaurants and bars as well as a tiny store at a neighboring time share.

Incredible Seclusion Possible Visited: April 2001 |

We stayed with another couple in the villas and were lucky enough to get units 5A/5B. This deluxe 2BR is the only villa that actually opens up onto BBC's private beach. The fact that we could look out uninterrupted onto the beach/water from our patio made all the difference.
The staff were very friendly and much effort was made to keep the grounds clean and attractive. The unit had a euro-kitchen with full sized refrigerator, all of which was of recent make.
There was no air-conditioning, but ceiling fans and french doors made that a non-factor.
The BBC is a nice little property, and if you can score the beachside villa, it's a great value. |

Antigua's best little hideaway! Visited: January 2001 |

We stayed at Barrymore Beach Club (BBC) for part of our honeymoon. We had a very spacious one-bedroom apartment, which was very clean and very comfortable with a cool nightly breeze. There was a restaurant right next to the resort that had the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. The beach was great and very private. If you feel like more action, you can take a quick walk to two big beaches and other restaurants. There was a full kitchen with all of the amenities that are perfect for a family. The TV was very nice and had many channels including news from home. The best part of BBC had to be the grounds; they were so well kept and full of beautiful flowers. It was very nice to sit on our patio or balcony and enjoy. We would go there again in a heartbeat!

A perfect place for relaxation. Visited: December 2000 |

Barrymore Beach Hotel was the perfect getaway for our honeymoon. We were looking
for seclusion, intimacy, and relaxation. That was exactly what we got. The villas and
grounds were immaculate. The villas look practically brand-new and are tastefully
decorated. The open air bar was very convenient and the restaurant was delicious
(especially the fresh guacamole dip). The staff was so accommodating and met our every
need. We walked down to Dickenson Bay one afternoon where many other resorts are
located. That was the most crowded beach we had ever seen! We wanted the complete
opposite--seclusion. Barrymore is the place to go if this is what you are looking for. The
beach there was a little small, but the whole atmosphere of Barrymore made up for that.
The Barrymore has a great location. It was convenient to any place on the island we
wanted to go. We would definitely recommend the Barrymore for those looking to get
away from it all. |

A quiet, relaxing and beautiful place to stay Visited: January 2000 |

Situated on a quiet, long beach within easy reach of the capital, St. John's, this club is ideal for those who want to get away from it all. Soft sand and all facilities at hand, I would highly recommend this club for those who want to get away from the usual hum drum resorts, and to enjoy the beauty of the island.

We've been to BBC twice and are planning a third visit. This is the place to go if you want to be away from the maddening crowds. It's secluded enough for a quiet holiday with your own semi-secluded beach. Restaurants, beaches, and resorts are within a short walking distance. St Johns is just a few minutes by car and has several nightclubs.

After much searching, I found the Barrymore Beach Club and was pleased to find exactly what was pictured on the net. The place was not air-conditioned and it was hardly missed with the constant breeze. The TV needed help, 2 channels only, no home news. Who needed it anyway on vacation.
The property was well maintained and the staff were great. The room we rented was in excellent condition and the location could not have been better, easy access to everything.
If you are looking for a great location, excellent value, this is the place to be. I would highly recommend this place.
