Description:
This low key, intimate suite hotel located amid a lush, tropical garden (planted by the owner) on Dickenson Bay, is a favorite of honeymooners and romantics of any age. The Mediterranean-style white stucco building, three stories high, has suites with ocean or courtyard views, and kitchenettes. Breezy rooms are well done in rattan and brightly colored prints; each extends to a "landscaped" private patio or a view of the azure leeward sea. A fresh water pool is hidden away in a palm filled garden, perfect for those seeking to relax in garden or shade. Televisions are available upon request, but air-conditioning and phones are in place.
The tiny beach here, as it is on much of Antigua, is pristine with perfect white sand. You can pull up a lounge chair just in front of Siboney on the often-photographed small peninsula beach. Or, about three hundred yards east of Siboney you can bask on the popular "hotel strip," which houses Sandals and Halcyon Hotels.
The Coconut Grove Restaurant and bar, right at the waters' edge -- is a delight in this tropical paradise setting, and is quoted in the London Sunday Times as "everybody's idea of what a Caribbean restaurant should be." Today, it is still considered a treat, but has lost a bit of its aura.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner (reservations suggested).
At the hotel you can enjoy windsurfing (ask Tony Johnson, as it's his favorite pasttime) or a variety of other water sports. For swimming and relaxing, choose from a delightful swimming pool situated in the lush tropical garden or the perfect water of Dickenson Bay, calm and clear, and stretching for half a mile.
Not particularly known for snorkeling, Dickenson Bay is one of the more popular beaches because of its hotels, water sports and bars.
The hotel is family owned by Tony Johnson, an "ex-Aussie" who sailed to the island in the 1950's for a few weeks, and ended up staying a lifetime, creating this botanical haven.
