3.0 stars Great For a Truly Secluded Stay Visited: June 2001
Posted by luke_24_6
We stayed at the Sandpiper for our first night on Antigua before heading to a more luxurious all-inclusive resort for several days. We were literally the only guests at the resort. We had the entire beach and pool to ourselves. The staff was very nice and clean and we had very personal service while dining.

The room was just like a typical US hotel room. The bathroom could use some remodeling but overall the room was acceptable. One quirky feature is an environment control remote control by the bed to raise or lower the temperature, fan, etc. The gardens around the resort were beautiful and we had a great time. The lady at the front desk gave us an explanation of the local currency and suggested some places to visit during our stay.

We enjoyed this resort primarily because of the absolute seclusion. Some of the locals describe Sandpiper as "dead," but we prefer to call it "romantic." We visited during the slow season (June), but with a staff to occupant ratio of about 30:2, the service was great.

4.0 stars Just what we needed!!!! Visited: February 2000

The Sandpiper Reef Resort was the right place for us to be !!!! No big holiday camp and down to earth, that's what we wanted from our holiday at the end of February 2000.

We booked it because of the quiet location and as a big surprise it is totally run by local people and they want you to have a relaxed holiday. No question is too much, even the wonderful salt fish meal, on our request, was a pleasure for the staff, wonderful service.

If you like "smart" and noisy holidays, this is not the place to be, to relax is the key and they live up to this.

3.0 stars Very relaxing, intimate, private. Visited: January 2000

Sandpiper was a relaxing place to be. The rooms however, were deceiving as compared to the pictures we were sent. The food was ok but we did however find many fine dining places very close to the hotel. If you need to go to a place to get away and relax, I would highly recommend it. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

3.0 stars Paradise Hotel Visited: January 2000

We stayed at the Sandpiper Reef Resort in Feb. of '00 and just loved the hotel, the food, the view from our balcony, the beach.... the list just goes on and on! It was just so peaceful and beautiful, like we imagine paradise to be and it was so relaxing! The fact that the only watersports were canoes or swimming made the stay even more peaceful. Please don't change.

3.0 stars Secluded and quiet Visited: January 2000

The hotel is very secluded and one will not be harassed by beach vendors. The rooms are large and very clean and the king size bed large and comfortable. The fridge in the room is very useful. Views from the balcony are superb. A rental car is a must since there are no nearby restaurants and taxis are quite pricey. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We will stay here again!

3.0 stars Quiet, beautiful location, wonderful friendly service. Visited: January 2000

This hotel, although slightly off the beaten track, offers guests a very relaxed holiday with staff willing to help in every way in a very friendly manner. Family run, you are made to feel very welcome. The beach was sandy with palm trees in a small sheltered bay. The pool and every part of the common parts of the hotel were clean. The rooms though basic were clean with good daily service; every room had air-conditioning and TV.

The food was of a higher standard than expected for a 3-star hotel. We liked the quietness but if you felt that you wanted a little more life then it was there to find outside the hotel but wonderful to come back to the peacefulness. I would definitely go again.
