We're return guests of Jolly Harbour Villas. Visited: October 2006
Posted by uktraveller
We are just planning our third family holiday to Antigua, and yet again, we will be staying at Jolly Harbour Villas.

It really does make a difference if you ask specifically for one of the refurbished villas on the South Finger. This way, you are guaranteed a privately owned villa of a high standard that is close to the beach and all the restaurant, shopping and sporting facilites.

Reviewers who needed a golf cart to get around are most likely to have been allocated North Finger or Golfing villas - great if you like golf but not much else!

It is a little rundown, but not too bad. Visited: January 2005
Posted by tony
They have some rule that requires renters to park their car about a mile away from the units. Walking back and forth got a bit wearisome.

Also, the units could use some work. Our air conditioning poured water all over the furniture and floor. The casino seemed a little sketchy, too.

The local restaurants were very good. All water tours picked guests up at the local marina, and the beach was only a short walk away.

It wasn't bad, but we won't stay here again.

All in all, it was a great place for sun, sailing and relaxing. Visited: October 2004

Jolly Harbour was a fantastic place to take a family, with great beaches, swimming pools, tennis, golf, sailing, friendly people and it was very safe.

Our two children (ages three and six) would have spent all day in the pool or on the beach, but we dragged them onto a yacht for a day and we had an excellent time.

We would highly recommend Russell and Natasha who ran Jolly Charter from Jolly Harbour for a great day sailing with or without the kids! Hiring a golf buggy was a must to get to and from the beaches and pools - and it was good fun for the kids, too.

The new supermarket in Jolly Harbour was huge, so you will not go without any home comforts on this resort. All in all, it was a great place for sun, sailing and relaxing with or without the children. We are coming back next year!

It was excellent - apart from Tradewinds Cruises. Visited: October 2004

We will be leaving Antigua tommorrow and we have had a fantastic time here. Jolly Harbour is a great holiday village.

We are so impressed that we have bought a villa on the North Finger. It's on the waterfront and just a few minutes away fron the centre by golf kart! Also, it's a great resort for kids.

The only thing that spoiled it for us was Tradewinds Cruises - were very unreliable. We arranged to go on a catamaran cruise three times and each time they failed to deliver. Indeed, on the third occasion we were down at English Harbour when they called to say the trip was on. But when we arrived, they kept us waiting for an hour before they told us that one of their engines was broken and it was dangerous to go out! Why they rang us in the first place is beyond my comprehension. It really upset the kids and it meant we wasted a whole afternoon.

The pace of Antiguans may be slow, but at least they're honest. Apart from that, the other services on the resort are fine, the shops are good, the restaurants are good and reasonably priced, and the supermarket carries an excellent selection.

I would highly recommend renting a villa. Have a great holiday!

A wonderful place that is fantastic for children. Visited: December 2003

We have been to Jolly Harbour Villas four times now over the last six years and have watched it slowly grow. We have not yet seen the new casino complex since it was finished, but overall this is a great place to stay with children.

Get a golf cart for the time you are here, as it saves walking and is ideal for taking your shopping back to the villa or your towels to the beach!

It has a fantastic beach and also the benefit of the BBR sports club with pool and tennis courts and a nice bar and restaurant.

We all love this place and hope it does not become to popular or busy. Also, watching Father Christmas arrive by helicopter at Christmas is also quite amusing for the children (and adults).

It was so brilliant, we are returning this year. Visited: July 2002

The Jolly Harbour Villas were great, with lots of room which was good as were taking an extra one this year.

The bars were a bit too quiet some nights. We met some really friendly locals, and my teenage daughter was in her element. They also had a good choice of restaurants. It was nice to see a vege-burger on the menu at the Dogwatch Tavern.

The staff was very friendly, too. We had a lovely barbecue on the beach organized by Shiela and David. As for beach vendors, they were not too much hassle. They all seemed very friendly.

The supermarket could have had a bit more choice, and it was rather expensive, too. The reception staff was helpful, and the maintenance man was very effecient, too.

All in all, it was a great place to spend our holiday.

An excellent resort for families. Visited: July 2002

We spent five days at Jolly Harbour and it was a perfect family resort. Our two children (ages 6 and 5) loved it. There was a supervised Kids Club which gave us time to play tennis or go diving, knowing that the kids were having a great time too.

The villas were an excellent value with wonderful views over the water. The staff was all helpful and friendly - they were brilliant with the kids. One evening, when we had a power cut in our villa, the maintenance man was there within 10 minutes, and had the power up and running for us. We were very impressed with the speed of this service.

We hired a golf cart for a couple of days - it was pricy, but fun. The rest of the time we used the shuttle - usually it was efficient, but occasionally we gave up waiting and walked. The distances tended to be too big for very young children or the elderly to walk.

Castaway Beach was wonderful - we have never seen so many seashells in one place. It was also very quiet, and definitely worth a visit.

We did not go all-inclusive, so costs did add up quite a lot, as everything was extra. The food, as in most of the Caribbean was pretty expensive.

All in all though, we would thoroughly recommend it.

A superb accommodation and facilities. Visited: July 2002

The villas were two-bedroom, three-bathroom, and were clean, spacious, and all had excellent outlooks on to the fingers of water (each with own moorings). Service was first rate and efficient (even by Antiguan standards).

We had an all-inclusive - free use of Driftwood Restaurant (very good food from breakfast to dinner), Splash (nice snacks), and $24 allowance at Dogwatch Tavern (pub type!).

The resort was spread out, but Driftwood, the beach and main pool were an easy walk from South Villas. Golf buggies were useful, but expensive - the shuttle was pretty efficient if walking was a chore.

The beach was beautiful - quite a few polite hawkers (worth chatting to even if you don't want to buy), and a strong security presence was on the resort.

For booking trips (which were generally very pricy), we used Vorn (next to Driftwood) or his brother James (found at BBR sports).

Trips may be good for island excursions, but do not miss out on the easy to use public buses to St John's and Nelson's Dockyard - it is an experience in itself.

It was excellent. We would go again Visited: March 2002

All I can say is "wow". What a beautiful island and what a great place to stay!

The villa was perfect. As there were only two of us, we had more than enough room. The view from the villa was lovely. There was no real need for air conditioning because we didn't really spend all that much time in the villa- except nights of course.

A golf cart is needed if you are extremely lazy. Everything was within walking distance- that is if you are young and healthy.

The food was beautiful, the staff was polite, and the beach was amazing.

I would come back here any day.

I had a great holiday.

The accommodations were nice and there was a great choice of restaurants!

I would recommend the all-inclusive option for families.

In the main resort, the staff was pleasant and helpful. The locals were also very friendly - especially the aloe vera man!

Not fancy, but clean and adequate accomodations. Visited: February 2002
Posted by scohen
The villas were set up nicely and were very clean. We had four people in our room, and it was very spacious.

Not all villas had air conditioning or a television. I definitely would recommend having air conditioning.

There was a nice little grocery store on site. You should rent a car or golf cart because it was very spread out. We rented a car which enabled us to go to other beaches (the water at the beach at Jolly Harbour Villas was very milky blue, not the clear blue usually found in the Caribbean. But, other beaches were beautiful. Also, having a car allowed us to explore the island which was great.

The restaurants on site were fair. Off site, we ate at some great restaurants. They were not cheap, but really good.

There were sand flies and mosquitos. We got eaten alive, but we still had a good time. There were some very nice Eco-tours around Antigua and other local islands - we highly recommend Eli.

A beautiful beach, but only adequate accommodations. Visited: February 2001

Jolly Harbour is a large community of rentals, time shares, and privately-owned residences. I believe that the time share units are furnished a little nicer than the rentals. It is also spread out, almost like a summer camp. I rented a golf cart to get around for the week. The beach is great and the pool is nice for swimming laps. There are some nice on-site restaurants and a great restaurant up the beach at Coco's. It is on the Caribbean side of the island, so the water is nicer and calmer than on the Atlantic side. Don't plan on golfing at the on-site course, because it currently isn't in very good shape. There are on-site activities including helicopter tours, horseback riding, scuba diving, and they are also building a new casino.
