Rooms need renovation, but it was still good! Visited: March 2005 |

This resort is one of the many nice ones along Palm Beach in Aruba. This resort has a good amount of beachfront and a decent amount of depth to the beach in front of the hotel.
The pool is nice, but needs repair, and it features a swim-up bar and two hot tubs. The three restaurants are the Topaz buffet (breakfast and lunch), Papaya's a la carte (lunch and dinner), and Caruso's a la carte (dinner only). The a la carte restaurants fill up quick, so you can also get the dinner buffet inside the theater.
There is a good quality of food all around, and the island features the second best public water in the world (which means drinkable tap water)!
The rooms are dated, they need renovation, but that doesn’t mean the rooms are dirty or unpleasantly hot. The A/C works well, but it is noisy, and the beds are all right. I had no problem sleeping.
Overall, I'd say it’s a good resort for those on a budget and willing to overlook minor imperfections. |

It was a very nice hotel and beautiful beach in an excellent location! Visited: January 2005 |

We arrived at the Allegro on Jan. 27, 2005. Check-in was fine and friendly. We were only staying for one night, so we went with the EP plan instead of AI. We were boarding a cruise ship the next day and wanted to do dinner elsewhere.
The rooms were dated and I wasn't impressed. But for one night, it was fine.
The beach was absolutely beautiful! There was powder white sand and blue water and sunshine..isn't that what everyone comes for? There were many beach chairs, a towel stand, and Red Sail Sports had a dock right next to it. They had catamarans, snorkel trips, parasailing, windsurfing..you name it!
There were cocktail stands out at the beach for hotel guests. Use your room card as they would not accept cash. The pool area was great, too. There was a large pool with a swim-up pool bar, hot tubs, lots of chairs were available, and the entire area was surrounded by lush foliage.
There was an open air restaurant next to the pool. We had sandwiches that were fantastic. There was a large sports bar with pool tables and such that overlooked the pool area.
The casino seemed to need work. It was very small and tight machines. Go somewhere else if you want to gamble. There were many places to choose from.
It was a very nice hotel. We were informed that the Allegro will be closing for approximately eight months at the end of April 2005 for complete renovation of the rooms and addition of more restaurants.
We can't wait to see it next year! I'm sure after renovations this will be a five-star hotel. Enjoy!

Allegro Resort is awesome. Visited: September 2004 |

Man, this place rocks! I stay every year, and this year, September 2004, we are going again - 15 of us.
This place cannot be beaten, and for the money, it's fabulous. The food is great - especially the buffets; and the drinks are good. Everything is good down here.
There is no need to worry about the rooms, with the place closing for a half year to re-do everything. Anyway, you shouldn't be in the room all day and night anyway.
I won't write anything about the beach and the weather, because you should know about that - it's perfect! |

Allegro was beautiful. We looked at some of the other hotels while we were here and Allegro had a lot more to offer than most.
The pool area was beautiful. There were four restaurants to choose from, all of which had a great selection of food.
The service at the Allegro from the pool to the Casino was top notch. The rooms were simple, but very clean and nice. The lobby was air conditioned - most hotels in Aruba had open lobbies which were very warm during the day.
There was a mini mall in the Allegro, as there were in a lot of the hotels in Aruba, with a nice selection to do souvenir shopping and prices were just as cheap as they were downtown.
I recommend you take the bus that picks up in front of the hotel to go downtown or anywhere else. Cab fare here was expensive and the bus was $2 per person - roundtrip. |

Our stay was very good here at the Allegro. Visited: July 2004 |

Our stay at the Allegro was very good. The beach and the pool was fabulous.
Every day they had games for the kids as well as the adults. The people here were so friendly and were willing to help guests in any way possible. The games were held three or four times a day, and you could win prizes if you won the games. Ruby was the main person in charge of the games and she was great. She was so sweet and helpful and always put a smile on everyone's face.
The restaurants were good, too. The restaurant, Topaz, had a wonderful variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Papayas was wonderful, too. Their food was delicious. I would definitely recommend Papayas for lunch.
The shops had a wide variety of things to choose from. From sand shovels and beach towels, to clothing with the Aruba logo on it. It was wonderful.
The dinner shows were also great. The actors were so talented and they did a great job performing.
The rooms were okay. They were livable for a couple of days, but looked like they needed a lot of work. The decor seemed very old fashioned, and we could tell the rooms needed a lot of work. The paint was chipping and the phones didn't work very well.
But they would be okay if you were barely in your room. But this summer they will be doing renovation to the entire hotel, so the rooms should now be excellent.
If you want to stay at the Allegro, its a great place to stay. If you have very high standards as far as hotel rooms, then I suggest you wait until they are done with the renovation. If you are rarely in your room and do not mind, then it's a great place to stay.
I hope you enjoy your trip to Aruba! It was a wonderful island with a lot to offer. |

I stayed at the Allegro on the recommendation of my travel agent and I'm glad I did. I checked in, went up to my room and was out to the beach in about ten minutes. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and the pool area is awesome.
I ate the complimentary breakfast every morning and watched the iguanas sunning themselves on the rocks by the pool. At the Allegro, we were right in the middle of everything to do - snorkeling tours, jet skis, parasailing, swimming, whatever. It was right off of the beach right there.
The Allegro seemed to have a loyal following of return visitors, I am one as well. I did look at the Radisson and the Hyatt on either side. They were newer hotels and looked nice, bit I would still return to the Allegro! Thanks for a great time. |

It was a dream come true. Visited: October 2003 |

We are in our mid-twenties and we stayed at the Allegro Resort (the all-inclusive plan) for our honeymoon in the second week of October.
At first we were hesitant about staying here because of some of the poor reviews, but now that we have been there, we would never stay at any other resort but the Allegro.
The rooms were plain and clean. It was very nice that they were air conditioned (there was a button to switch the air from automatic-on to off).
The pool area was awesome. The drinks at the swim-up bar were so tasty, they had a different 'drink of the day' every day, they were all so good.
The beach was breathtaking! The water was so blue and the sand was so white. We did not have any problems getting an umbrella hut; it was so nice to lay there all day.
We did do a lot of the day trips, the DePalm Tour desk was great, it was right in the hotel and they helped you pick and plan whatever you wanted to do. We did the Jeep Safari Tour (definitely do it!), horseback riding (we had a very good time, but your butt gets really sore), The KooKoo Canuko Party Bus (this was so much fun, if we ever went back to Aruba I'd do it every time!), Parasailing (breathtaking, try it!), we also rented Jet Skis and had a massage. There was a very helpful watersports man named Art, he was great.
One day we also rented a car and went into town. We ate off the resort only one time at The Flying Fishbone Restaurant (it was very romantic, I definitely suggest you go there, the tables and chairs are actually on the beach about 10 feet from the water. The food was very good. We had lobster and steak, I can honestly say it was the best I have ever had.
We did not eat off the resort any other time because the food at Papayas, Caruso's, and the buffet were all very, very good.
We did take a walk every night and looked at the other hotels, some looked very nice (like the Hyatt, Radisson, and Marriott) but they looked almost too nice, too stuffy, and too expensive.
Over all I definitely recommend this resort to all, and I will definitely be returning to the Allegro in Aruba before I go anywhere else. You will fall in love with it! |

Very Disappointed on the Second Visit.... Visited: July 2003 |

This was our second trip to Aruba and the Occidental/Allegro. We were there in Sept 2001 (during 9/11) on our honeymoon and we loved it, so we went back. What a mistake! We were there July 12-19. The food had gone downhill 100% since the Occidental took over the management. Even the main entrees in the specialty Italian Restaurant were horrible. Our bed was a nightmare. It had a HUGE dip in the middle (I'd like to call it a hole) that we got "sucked" into every night. We tried flipping the mattress ourselves, but the other side was just as bad. We asked for another room, but they were overbooked and actually moved people next door the the Hyatt and we didn't want to have to do that b/c they make you come back to the Occidental for the AI package (food, drinks, etc), which can be a big pain in the rear. The pool bartender was slow and gave dirty looks if he thought you finished your drinks too fast. The rest of the staff was ok. I know somepeople say "the impossible to please", but I really am not. All I want is a comfortble bed, descent food (not excellent), and people to be nice back to me. I always say please and thank you and I am fairly easy going. Overall we LOVE Aruba and plan on returning someday in the not so distant future, but we will not stay at the Occidental. Any specific questions, please feel free to email me at nfahey@verizon.net

If you want to have a fabulous vacation - stay here. Visited: July 2003 |

My boyfriend and I had the greatest time in Aruba and we were very happy and pleased with this all-inclusive hotel choice.
It was great. We woke up, went to the buffet breakfast at Topaz, and sat outside with the beautiful breeze and waterfall. Papayas was okay. We loved the fact that we didn't have to decide where to have breakfast or lunch.
We walked from the beach to the pool in two seconds and ate lunch at Topaz or Papayas in our swim suits. The dinner shows were really cute. Two restaurants that you must try are El Gaucho-a steakhouse, and Flying Fishbone- on the beach with your feet in the sand ...soo romantic - we loved it.
If you want to go on vacation and have everything in front of you with no hassle, stay here. The swim-up bar was great, it was so much fun. There were also a lot of activities on the beach. Parasailing was scary, and on the banana boat we were holding on for dear life (ha ha).
We did not want to go home. It was very sad leaving. We will definitely be back again. |

After traveling 12 hours, we arrived at the hotel to find long lines at the check-in counter and only one person working behind the desk. After waiting about 20 minutes, I was told that check-in time was 4pm. We walked around the hotel for 30 minutes and returned at 4pm only to have the women at the desk tell us our room was not ready and she did not know when it would be cleaned.
The all-inclusive meal plan was joke. I went to make a reservation at Caruso's the first night and the manager told me he had no reservations until Saturday night. The same was true for the Papaya restaurant. We got tired of eating at the buffet so I ended up eating at restaurants outside of the hotel. The shows in the ballroom were a joke. It was comedic to see the dancers lip synching the Broadway songs. I was using the men’s room behind the Papaya restaurant and one of the wait staff came out of the bathroom stall and proceeds to walk out without washing his hands. Needless to say, I cancelled my reservation to the restaurant that evening. The rooms were clean but old. The air conditioning in our room would constantly go on and off. |

We heard so many good things about Aruba, and everything we heard was right! The Allegro Resort was unbelieveably relaxing, romantic and gorgeous.
We were all-inclusive, and that was the way to go. Since the Allegro offered so much (food, activities, etc.), we never had to leave if we did not want to.
We will definitely be back in about two years, once we save up the money again! I dream of being back there every day! |

I have just come back from a fantastic holiday in the wonderful island of Aruba. The Allegro Resort was absolutely fantastic.
We arrived on a Wednesday evening after a long 12-hour flight. We were made to feel welcomed as soon as we stepped into this lovely hotel. The staff bent over backwards to make us feel very special.
The food was unbelievably good and there were three restaurants plus a pizza bar for that occasional 12 o'clock snack. The staff at all the bars made sure I had a drink within 20 seconds of getting to the bar. The waiters in the plush Italian restaurant were very friendly and "Justy" was the nicest and funniest waiter I've ever met!
Our room was a superior guest room which overlooked both the lovely beach and the pool. I went on several excursions including sea trek / snuba and a jeep safari and will recommend all of them.
We spent most of our 15-day holiday relaxing by the pool and beach and helping ourselves to as many drinks as we could handle. We met some lovely people, all of who made our holiday even more special. And just in case they do not write a report, I can confirm that each of them also loved the Allegro Resort.
Thank you to the hotel staff for a wonderful vacation. We will be back. |

Don't bat an eye at the other places on Palm Beach. This is where you want to stay with or without your kids. The crowd is professional and very friendly. The resort, food and the service is incredible.
We had the all-inclusive plan, and had a choice of three restaurants and a pizza stand on the property. All of the food from breakfast to dinner was tasteful and high quality. Where else can you get prime rib for lunch? I cannot say enough about the flavor of the food.
They also had an Italian restaurant on-site that had terrific lasagna and filet mignon. The drinks were not watered down and the bartenders knew what you are drinking after you ordered your first drink. The swim-up bar was fun and friendly.
The guests and staff were very helpful and courteous. The beach area was gorgeous with plenty of chairs, huts, and palm trees for shade. They had a bar directly on the beach, as well. The pool was very close to the beach, so if you had kids, you wouldn't have to worry yourself sick. They also had hourly pool activities for kids and adults. Also, the ballroom shows in the evening were fun to watch.
You just can't go wrong with the Allegro Resort in Aruba. |

This was our first trip to Aruba. We stayed at the Allegro and we had a wonderful time. The staff could have not been more gracious. We would definitely return.
I read most of the reviews and I am curious why (since we stayed for seven nights/eight days) we were not offered the voucher to dine at other facilities when so many others were. I would like further details on this.
In any event, we will be returning this year. |

I stayed at the Allegro over Thanksgving weekend. Overall, it was not bad.
After drinking way too much the day we arrived, I awoke in a dither, and there was no electric or water. Needless to say, I was was not happy. I didn't let it get to me, though. We went to the beach and washed off in the ocean. The electric came back on around 5:00, just in time for dinner.
The food was edible in all of the restraunts. The drinks were good, though. The local beer "Balashi" wasn't that bad. They had Miller Lite on tap, also. I suggest going to the "sports bar" that is inside. They had the better brands of alcohols.
The rooms were nice and would be clean by the time you got back from breakfest. I was here for a wedding, so we had a pack of roughly 50 people. We went on Booz cruises/ Snorkling trips. They were great fun. Also, if you want to dance at night, you can in the sports bar where there was a dj nightly. He pretty much played whatever you requested, which was cool.
My trip was fun, and the wedding was nice. I highly suggest you take off the day after you return home to recouperate. And, all-inclusive is the only way to go here. |

Everything at this resort is excellent. The staff is very helpful and polite, and treat everyone like they are royalty. Plus, the rooms are incredible, the food is amazing, and the view is superb.
I just love coming here. I can relax and enjoy myself. |

The Allegro is a good mid-range quality hotel. Visited: October 2002 |

Allegro is an above average hotel to stay in Aruba. The best perk about the Allegro is the location. Allegro is in the middle of 'Palm Beach', and that's the middle of all of the 'hi-rise' resorts area of Aruba.
It's comprised of 2 very nice 9-story towers. The rooms are spacious, well kept, and have everything you'll need ....even that ever so important in-room refrigerator.
The beach sand is soft, white, and clean (cleaned daily), the ocean water is light green and great for swimming and snorkeling. There are excellent restaurants and activities at the hotel, as well as with-in a 10 minute walk, and that was important to us because we were not on an all-inclusive plan.
The hotel has all of the usual services of a major hotel, including a drug store, a mini deli/grocery store, a mini mall, room service (for breakfast only), laundry service, even a small casino. They put on stage shows with titles like Moulin Rouge and Grease.
The food is generally good, but in Aruba, we never found a bad restaurant and we visited many of them, all around the area. There are several very good restaurants just across the street from Allegro, including the Aqua Grill, Amazonian and a nice Italian place that I forget the name of.
The drinks at Allegro were small (and expensive) and I never felt as if there was really alcohol in them, no matter how many I had. For those of you that like Scotch, Allegro has a 'green-label' Johnny Walker (not available in the states) ....I'd recommend trying.

We just returned from one-week all-inclusive stay. This was our first time in Aruba and at any Allegro Resort. We thought the place was great.
We ate breakfast and lunch at the buffet and most dinners at Papayas. Our breakfast and lunches were great. We could always find something good to eat. Tony was a good waiter there.
The dinners we ate at Papayas were super. Aldopho was our waiter, and after the first night, he greeted us with our wine and seemed to anticipate what we wanted. We always had more food than we could eat. We a had a couple of dinners in the ballroom buffet. They were okay. I found that if you couldn't find something that you liked or could eat, they were more than willing to make you something special.
Our rooms were cleaned daily by Marie, who was very nice. She seemed to go out of her way to be unobtrusive. We spent most of ur time on the resort, and we still didn't have time to do everything. I did go sailing several times. The gentlemen who took care of that were great! If you didn't want to take a sailboat out by yourself they were willing to take you out. The only downside to our trip was the elevators. They didn't seem to want to work all the time.
We will definitely go back. |
