Finally, after several complaints over two days of a completely dead and unusable telephone, I said I was going to post our problems with the Holiday Inn on the Internet, our room phone was checked. After they went up to our room to “check” the phone, it worked.
Not only was our phone not working, but the shower would not give hot water.
Make sure you don’t rely on the front desk check-in staff who say that you have everything you need for your stay. You may need tickets for each person, each breakfast, and not just the paid voucher.
The hostess told us that we needed to get the yellow tickets. After three attempts to get the tickets, the hostess said that “all you had to do was stop at the cashier and she would have let you in.” When I told her that no one was stopping at the cashier- everyone seemed to have yellow tickets- I was asked “If everyone was running into the ocean, would you follow them?’.
When the computer system in the casino was down, there was no sign posted. I was told that the slots were not broken, but “the system is down- we can’t track your Player’s Card or give you a ticket payout, but you can still play.” The system was down at various intervals over three days. What good is a Player’s Club if you can’t earn points?
We booked a tour that included the Aloe Factory for our last full day in Aruba. They "cancelled" it at the last minute, forcing us to book a more expensive tour instead of telling us that free tours of the factory were offered that week. |

We have stayed at the Holiday at least four times, and have been satisfied.
No, it's not the Hyatt. However, if you want an affordable, convenient, place to stay located directly on Palm Beach, it's the way to go.
We have always done the all inclusive, which is really a great deal. We have stayed at the Occidental & the Marriott Surf Club as well, and I would still stay at the Holiday Inn, since it is more affordable and suits my needs just fine. |

The Holiday Inn was conveniently located near the downtown area and the airport. The rooms were very nice and clean. The beach was beautiful. The grounds were still being landscaped because they have been renovating.
I would recommend the property if you are wanting to spend a moderate amount for your room. Also, I am a travel agent and did go look at a lot of other properties to compare. My friend and I had a great time in Aruba and enjoyed our stay here. |

This was a great all-inclusive stay for our family of four. Visited: January 2005 |

My wife and I, and our two daughters (ages 11 and 8) just got back from our one-week stay at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Aruba. This was our second trip to this island and this property, having spent a week in January of 2003.
We love the island, the people, and we again enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn. Both times we traveled with a charter group. Yes, the check-in was not my favorite part.
However, this time I followed the advice of other travelers. When the plane landed (we were delayed ten hours and arrived at midnight), I gathered up our cabin baggage, leaving my wife and children to look after the luggage. I walked straight out of the airport with no delay and took a cab ride to the Holiday Inn (cost $23.00 USD). Because I was ahead of the other charter travelers, I secured our room with no delay.
I checked out the room and found no problems and got a beer (two, actually) and waited for the charter bus for my family. Upon their arrival, the staff at the Holiday Inn fastened the wrist bands on my wife and kids (they didn't have to wait in line becuase I already had the room), and my girls were in bed within one hour of landing in Aruba.
Because we had stayed at this resort before, we knew what to expect. The food was just right for my family. When we wanted to eat at the Miramar, we reserved our table. Make sure you reserve right at 8:00 a.m. to get your preferred time. This is more of an issue when traveling with children.
The buffets were good, the Sea Breeze was very enjoyable. Also, the ice cream bar was a nice bonus, offering a varied selection of locally made ice cream. And, we didn't spend half of our day worrying about where on the island we were going to eat, securing reservations, etc.
The wait staff at all the resort bars, restaurants and buffets were great. By the way, we didn't travel all the way to Aruba to eat. We traveled to relax. The improvements to the property were smartly done (zero-entry pool, whirl-pool/hot-tubs). And our room had a great view.
Yes, some tiles were cracked in the bathroom, and the tap handles leaked when turned on, but hey, it wasn't my house so I didn't have to fix it. The cleaning staff was also great. Our room and the property were very well looked after.
Just a quick word about our stay. The tennis pro (George) was great with my oldest daughter. We had no problems securing nice chairs by a palm tree by the pool every morning at about 7:30. We put towels on our chairs. Some good chairs and locations were available up to 10:00, maybe even 11:00 - even though the hotel was full.
In addition, check out Rancho Del Campo for horse back riding or De Palm Tours for the jeep tours. Both were great. Enjoy your stay. |

We just returned 12/27/04 from staying at the Holiday Inn.
Our room was newly remodeled with new carpet, furnishings and no musty smell. No, it was no Marriott or Hilton, but for the money, it was fine.
The staff was excellent - except at the front desk. They were a little rude. The food was fine - I have had better, but have also had worse at top-of-the line places. The pool was finished and was really nice. We only used it once because we love the ocean.
Yes, we would we come to Holiday Inn again. Aruba was wonderful. |

My sister and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree twice. We will be coming back again in September of 2005.
We had a wonderful time relaxing on the beach and swimming in the beautiful water. We knew the pool was under renovations, but we didn't care because the beach was so nice..We are looking forward to seeing the results of the construction of the new pool.
The rooms at the hotel were clean and a good size. The view from our balcony was very nice. We could see the water and beach, and the sunsets were fantastic. The food at the different restaurants was good and very filling. The bars were always busy, and the bartenders were very nice.
Also, the staff at the hotel was very helpful and nice. If they could, they would do whatever was asked of them. We had a problem with our safe in the room. We called downstairs, and within five minutes, they had a manager at our door to fix it.
We have no complaints about our week, except that it went by too quickly. I only wish we could have stayed longer. We will see you all next year! |

We have just returned from a two-week stay here. Comments about the hotel from the US travellers seem a little harsh, but if you are British and are looking for a medium-class standard of accommodation then you should have no problems here!
The main pool area was being renovated. But we knew about this, and so we expected some noise and disruption. It will be much improved, however, once completed (I think the end of Nov. 2004).
We had a seaview room in the Bonaire Tower (with usual modern conveniences). It may have just been our room, but there was no cold water from either basin our shower. We enjoyed fantastic sunsets, though.
Don't be surprised if you get up at 7:00 am (like I did) to find all the parasols (chickees) reserved due to the bed boys being tipped the night before. This was more frustrating than trying to beat other guests to the beds in the Med!
Breakfast was served until 11.30 am and had everything you would expect. Food in the Miramar restaurant (evenings only) was good (if you like pasta), and the Sea Breeze menu had everything from salads to steaks. It was a good quality and was in a nice setting overlooking the sea.
Some drinks included a small premium (fancy branded ones), but the majority of cocktails were all-included and strong. Do try the "killing me slowly"one. The beer sure tasted good during the afternoon when Europe retained the Ryder Cup! Woohoo!
On the whole, it was a nice hotel, and you get what you pay for these days, don't you! |

The Holiday Inn SunSpree was very nice. Visited: August 2003 |

We have stayed at both the Hyatt and the Holiday Inn. I would rate the Holiday Inn a B-.
The room was clean, but basic. The buffet meals were decent. Food at the SeaBreeze was very good, as was food at Mirimar. The pool was adequate and the beach was beautiful.
If you are not on the all-inclusive plan, you will spend a lot of money here, as food in Aruba at all places is expensive. Our meals at Mirimar would have cost $100-$110 per meal for two of us.
The casino attached to the hotel was okay, but it was not owned or operated by the Holiday Inn. If you are on all-inclusive plan, you still have to pay for drinks in the casino unless you are gambling. |

Do not stay at the Holiday Inn in Aruba. Visited: April 2003 |

Please do not ruin a great vacation by staying at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort in Aruba. We were on the all-inclusive plan. The room had mold and mildew on the ceiling and wall, plus a terrible smell.
The food did not have any taste and was poor quality. The service was horrible. The bartenders turned their back as we approached them. The pool closes at 6:00 p.m. Luckily, our charter group moved us to another resort, which was no comparison. It was a perfect resort with outstanding food, service, and accommodations. Do not let your vacation in Aruba be ruined by paying a few less dollars to stay at the Holiday Inn instead of a nicer resort. |

We had a great time, and the staff was exceptional. The buffet meals were like all buffet meals. The rooms were clean, however, we did not spend much time in them.
The beach was the best, and we spent the majority of our time there. Snorkeling was also great.
Our return flight was delayed and the hotel let us keep our rooms until 5:00 pm instead of the 1:00 pm check out. They also let us use our all-inclusive privledges until we left for the airport at 7:00 pm. Others from different hotels who were on our flight were not given the same accommodations that our hotel gave us.
We would return to Aruba and stay at the Holiday Inn in a heartbeat. If you're not expecting a five-star plus hotel, you won't be disappointed. |

We stayed ten nights in an oceanfront room in the Bonaire tower. We didn't participate in the all-inclusive, and several good restaurants were within walking distance of the hotel.
Bus travel was good, and there were plenty of packages available with transportation to and from the hotel. This wasn't a luxurious hotel. So if you want that, you should go down the street to the Hyatt or the Marriott. But, for good value, it was a good hotel. |

This was my third time at this Holiday Inn. This time we requested an Ocean front view and we did get that however, the room was damp and musty. The shower was awful.
We stayed on the side that was furthest from the Marriot because of the noise factor. However, there is now a restaurant in between there. They have parties once a month to celebrate the Full Moon. The noise is so loud that it is almost impossible to go to sleep. Holiday Inn only briefly mentions this to you.
We never take the all inclusive because we know from experience that the food is awful. There are more than enough great restaurants on this Island to satisfy anyones cravings.
The staff is rude.
But we love Aruba......

This was our first trip to Aruba and we were very pleased with the island, its people, and the hotel.
We were on an all-inclusive and ate at the hotel each night. We found that the buffets were only so-so, but the restaurant was very good.
The staff was courteous and helpful with the exception of the staff at the Seabreeze bar. They were not unpleasant, just uninterested.
The room we had was clean with a king-size bed, non-smoking and above the ground floor - just as we requested. It was large enough to also have a love seat, and table and chairs. Also, there was a small fridge.
Beach towels were complimentary and there were plenty of chaise lounges on the beach. The pool was small and packed with kids so we avoided it. There were fresh water showers at the exits from the beach.
There was a bus stop outside the hotel and the buses ran each half hour. We used the mini buses - go near the bus stop, hold out $1.00 and a van will stop to pick you up.
We flew Skyservice and although the plane was on time, the seats were terrible - cramped, broken and just worn out. We will try to find a different carrier next trip.
When we return to Aruba, we will happily stay at this resort. |

I have to agree with the traveler from Ohio. The staff was friendly at all times, the beach was as good as any of the other hotels on the same stretch of beach. There were plenty of palm trees for shade if you didn't get-up early enough to claim one of the thatch shelters; leaving a towel on a chair holds' it. There was a sidewalk that ran past the rest of the hotels southward.
Housekeeping was discreet, never banging on doors. We did not do the all-inclusive, so can't comment on the food. We ate in town, up the beach, etc.
There was a bus stop in front of the hotel so getting to/from town was easy.
The pool was small and basically used for cooling off, but there was a small elevated area in the middle were you could lay in lounge chairs that were in the water.
Two dive operators were within convenient walking distance of the hotel.
The casino in the hotel was the only one that we found that offered card playing poker; 7-card stud and Texas Hold'um.
No construction was going-on while we were here. We settled the bill around 9:00 am, and checked-out at noon.
We'll go back and stay here again. It was a very good value for the money.

My husband and I went to Aruba 19 years ago on our honeymoon and have been going back ever since. We have stayed at many different hotels, but find that the Holiday Inn gives you the best value for your money.
They have a beautiful beach and great food, and we have always found the staff to be extremely helpful. We have seen many changes in Aruba when there was only a dirt road to the Holiday Inn, but it is still a great hotel and the staff is wonderful.
You can't please everyone. But you are on vacation, relax and enjoy yourself! |

This resort was a pretty typical Holiday Inn - the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, and they had a good beach. The pool was small and overrun with kids, though.
We went all-inclusive, but wouldn't next time. The food was just okay, and we ate out several times for some variety. We enjoyed snorkeling and snuba, and would definitely return to Aruba. |

The reason I chose the Holiday Inn was due to availability. I l later learned why they had so many rooms available. Could it have been the construction? No, it could not have been that, because upon my return I complained to Holiday Inn Guest Services and they were told by the resort Manager that there was no construction going on at the time I was staying there. I must have imagined being woken up every morning by hammering and the banging. At least they were able to get a response. I complained daily and got none. This is an example of the staff I had to endure during my stay.
I found the staff rude and unhelpful. The beach is very nice but that is it. Due to my unpleasant stay and lack of response from Holiday Inn regarding my complaints, I would never stay at this or any other Holiday Inn.
