4.0 stars We enjoyed every minute! Visited: December 2001

My husband and I have stayed at the Holiday Inn seven times and are going back next week if he can get the time off work!

Not only is it the best value for your money, but the staff is friendly, the food is good to excellent, and the hotel is very clean. And what a beach!

After reading other reviews, I must say that when you come to Aruba, you need to slow down and relax. The staff does not hustle and bustle at the pace at home! They are laid back and the stress level is nil!

The hotel has undergone renovations and is much improved since our first visit! The three restaurants are clean and there is a nice variety of food that is yummy! The staff cleans your room quickly and do not disturb you if you put out your sign!

The weather in Aruba is always beautiful and the wind makes you feel cooler. But put on lots of sunscreen, or you'll be sorry! We can't wait to get back here!

3.0 stars We were very pleased. Visited: September 2001

We were very pleased with the treatment we recieved. I have been here four times. It took a lot to get my husband to go since he likes the winter, but he loved it and we have been back.

I would give the hotel three stars because they were renovating during our stay (but I am sure it is beautiful now). The general manager was very sweet and brought us wine and cheese for our anniversary.

2.0 stars Clean, that's about it. Visited: November 2000

I'm shocked to read all the positive reviews posted here, they certainly don't reflect my experience.

Here's the bad:
Upon checking in at midnight due to flight delays, we were sent to a room that was already occupied. Thankfully whoever was there was gone, otherwise it would have been very embarrassing for both of us. The food was very expensive as were the drinks, which were watered down to the point that even a lightweight like me could drink like a sailor. The whole resort felt like it had been transplanted from a Jersey Shore resort and dropped into the Caribbean.

The Good:
The beach was nice, particularly if you walk down about a half-mile to a windsurfing location. I would just warn everyone that due to its location, the sun is very intense, even at 8:00 am it feels like it’s pounding down on you like noon in the Sahara. Wear sunscreen religiously. Also, take them seriously when they say that you must make reservations for dinner, otherwise you will be eating at the Subway (yes, every franchise restaurant imaginable was down there)!

4.0 stars Have stayed here twice, and would stay again! Visited: October 2000

We have stayed here two out of the three times that we have been to Aruba. The beach is wonderful, rooms are fine and the brunch is great!

We would stay again. The location is great. You can always visit the more expensive places just to look, but it’s not worth paying the extra money for "extras." We are more interested in clean and comfy with a great location.

4.0 stars My best birthday. Visited: September 2000

I almost lost my fiancé to this wonderful island. Ten days under that blue sky, under that blue water, and I didn't remember anymore of the Brazilian beaches. I won't forget windsurfing at Fisherman's Hut. We went to the casinos every night, after snorkeling or scuba dive.

Property's condition: very good, considering the location in front of the beach.
Amenities and Facilities: nice beds, bad pillows, good shower, and very good air conditioner.
Staff: Polite and collaborative

4.0 stars None better for a twentieth anniversary! Visited: June 2000

We celebrated our 20th anniversary (early) in this great hotel and island paradise. The atmosphere and service were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did have one complaint - we only had one coffee cup our entire stay, but there was plenty in the restaurant so only a slight inconvenience.

The view was great and the beach life was terrific. If you like watersports or just lounging around sipping exotic drinks it can't be beat.

The Miramar Restaurant required reservations in advance due to space, however the food was excellent and the service was great. The outdoor bars and restaurants were just right for us beachcombers who didn't want to change.

The theme nights proved to be a lot of fun and all should partake. The convenience of shops and the Depalm Tours desks proved invaluable for our excursions. It was only a 15 minute bus ride to Oranjestad or you can take the taxi, which were always handy at all hours.

The casino was nice even though we weren't big winners we had a ball. One nice luxury we enjoyed was walking along the walkway between sister hotels and visiting with other vacationers and checking out all the niceties they offered. It was quite a site around sunset.

Overall, the stay was excellent and we would, and have, recommended the all-inclusive to others.

4.0 stars Treated like a King and Queen Visited: January 2000
Posted by grillinfred
My fiance and I had the greatest time in Aruba. We are returning in 2 months for our honeymoon. We will stay at the Holiday Inn again because the service was excellent. The employees treated us like gold!!

The hotel was nice for the price because there is so much to do that we really only slept there. We went to Cancun in March and stayed in a beautiful hotel... but it definetely didn't compare to the service we got in Aruba at the Holiday Inn. I would rather sacrifice marble floors for good service anyday. I highly recommend this hotel if your going for fun in the sun and sightseeing.

5.0 stars Fantastic !!!!! Visited: January 2000

This was the best vacation of my life. The beach was by far the best on the island. My wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, and it was better than our honeymoon.

Activities were right at our finger tips: snorkeling, watersports, etc. The food was very good and plentiful, drinks were available anywhere at the resort. The bartenders were great and entertaining. The rooms were your typical Holiday Inn room, clean and cool. When we go back to Aruba, this is where I will stay . Thank you Holiday Inn Aruba.

4.0 stars Great value for the dollar Visited: January 2000

If you’re looking for the ultimate in beaches and sun, this is the spot. It’s definitely the best beach on the strip. The food was excellent. Being vegetarian, we thought we would have a problem, but the a la carte dining provided a different selection every night.

All-inclusive is the only way to go at this spot. The resort is very clean and the staff is very friendly. We would most definitely return to the Holiday Inn. This was not our first choice in accommodations, but we are very glad ended up staying here. You can't go wrong for the price and service.

1.0 stars Completely NOT Worth the $$$ Visited: December 1969
Posted by chanceandhislady
We were looking forward to a much-needed vacation and chose Aruba. After shopping around, we found that we could get all the same amenities at the Holiday Inn as we could at the other resorts on Palm Beach but for less money. We were also thinking that Holiday Inn is an American hotel chain so if we had any problems or emergencies, the hotel would be better equipped to help us. NOT TRUE.

From the moment we signed in at the front desk, we received nothing but surly attitudes at every turn. The staff would not even attempt to be friendly in the hopes of an additional tip (to the normal 15% gratuity). Only one time did a staff person act halfway friendly towards us and we tipped him accordingly.

We specifically reserved a room with a king bed but got a double room instead. When asking the front desk about it, we were told it was "first come, first served" on the king rooms. FIVE times during our 7 day stay our room card key would not work. We went to the front desk every time and after swiping it through the computer, we were told "It's activated." I asked to speak to the manager or assistant manager but was repeatedly told he was "unavailable."

On the ride back to the airport, other Holiday Inn guests repeated the same pathetic service and hateful attitudes. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turned out to be as stressful, if not more so, than our every day grind at home. We plan on returning to Aruba but will pay the extra money to stay at another resort with friendlier staff.

Note: Once we returned to the States, I sent a complaint to the management company that owns the Aruba Holiday Inn. They offered me a certificate for free nights at any Holiday Inn of my choice. I told them that I was not interested. They obviously did not understand that they had lost a customer, period. They needed to quit trying to smooth over my irritation with worthless certificates and address the real problems at their hotel.
