European flare with a tropical breeze. Visited: December 2001 |

I was surprised to read the surveys where the travelers were most disappointed with their stays. As for me, this was my second visit to Paradise Island. The first was in December of '92. And it is my 12th Club Med property.
The only thing that really shocked me was the incredible devastation that the November hurricane caused to the tropical grounds at the Club. Fortunately, my favorite Banyan tree at the pool survived; but many of the palms and plants are gone. Undeterred, they were already replanting the gardens. The regular light tropical sprinkles will ensure a splendid new growth!
The rooms are small and recently renovated. And given that it is on 20+ acres of land, the walking is most beneficial—especially after the very rich and tasty meals (of the Club Meds, I find the cuisine to be one of the best).
I did go as a single; and quite to the contrary found many other singles to mingle with (five newfound friends). As for couples, there was a good balance of Canadians-Quebec and Toronto, Europeans and Americans who were excellent company at the dinner table. You may be carried away with the various conversation so keep track of when the restaurants closed. They close exactly on time. (I had regular battles to keep the ice cream machine open beyond the 2:30 lunch hour!)
My advice for first time Club Meders is that you will definitely find yourself immersed in a different "type" of vacation. But you can choose to participate in the activities or lounge on the pretty beach and do nothing. For repeat members or guests who have not been here, you will love the property and the location.
If you get tired of the confines, you can wander next door (a 5-minute walk) to the Atlantis hotel to gamble or pretend like you are Indian Jones! Or take the hourly boat shuttle to shop in Nassau. |

Sweet food for single bitterness. Visited: November 2001 |

Good value for the Bahamas! The table was probably one of the best in Paradise Island.
Not a place for singles, as there were very little formal chances to mingle. It was mostly for couples and honeymooners.
GO's were okay. The reception area was somewhat disorganized; there was an international Nike Tennis contest for under 14, which created a different dynamic in the Club Med.
The Chef du Village was focusing his efforts on this event, which became detrimental for people who were not sharing the same interests. There was not a lot of entertainment beyond that.
Rooms had to be checked out at 11 AM. They were asking for an extra US $50 to keep the room until 3 PM. I did not go for it.
GO's were working hard at making guests jump all night and do the crazy signs. The same happened at the Latin Night, while it would have been a perfect opportunity to learn some Salsa steps instead.
Overall, I am glad I was only there for three days. I found the environment artificial. I enjoyed all that great food and the people were fine, but that's about it. Not a lot to do beside eating and talking to others about previous Club Med experiences.

Awesome vacation destination! Visited: October 2001 |

The resort was absolutely beautiful with breathtaking scenery and landscaping. The staff was wonderful—so warm and friendly. They made you feel right at home and were eager to help in any way possible.
The restaurants were out of this world with more varieties of foods than you could possibly sample in a week's time. There were so many activities and things to do there—something for everyone. We really had a great time!
We highly recommend this resort AAAAA+++++! Thanks to all the staff at Club Med. You have given our family a treasure of memories that we will cherish forever! We truly hope we will have an opportunity to visit you again!

Bahamas treat! Visited: August 2001 |

My wife and I spent a week at Club Med Paradise Island in August. It was our 8th or 9th visit there. Like Nathalie from Belgium, we were surprised at a very negative review.
In our case, we have a timeshare outside of Nassau and traveled by taxi to the club. We arrived in the morning, did some boutique shopping, ate lunch, and went to our room. There were excellent accommodations, good maid service, superior looking grounds (like a fairytale garden).
The food was as usual very good and we had wonderful dinner conversations with persons of many different nationalities.
Avid tennis players, we participated in the morning classes and the early evening matches. Good evening performances, pleasant beach and fine swimming. Did a few shopping trips to Nassau town. (By the way, the Straw Market was destroyed by fire in September.)
Besides having good tennis instructors, we found the GOs so very helpful, pleasant and available. All in all, a wonderful vacation. We plan to return next year.

If you are looking for a perfect honeymoon destination, this is the right spot. This is a romantic place with wonderful beaches and amazing staff to help you 24 hours a day. You can enjoy your day on their beautiful beaches or taking part in their activities.
Whether you choose to be romantic and wish spend time by yourselves or wish to interact with others, this is an amazing place to visit. We were there for 2 weeks and wish we could have stayed longer.

Perfect Wedding and Paradise Vacation! Visited: June 2001 |

My whole family came here for my son's wedding. What a surprise! It was beyond anything we could have dreamed.
The beaches, the people, the food, the activities—it was just perfect! The walk to the dining hall was not that long and well worth it. The paths were lined with beautiful trees and flowers and everything was easy to find.
There were activities for every mood, every personality and every age. I danced, swam, ate, danced and sunned with family and friends. The wedding was, well, a fairy tale come true! My daughter in law and my son could not have had a more serene, idyllic setting to begin their lives together.
The people who run Club Med were like part of our own family. By the time we left, we felt rested, renewed and ready to return to Club Med at any time. I highly recommend it; this is the place to come!

A true Club Med Visited: June 2001 |

I am very surprised to read bad reviews. I have been there three times, the last one recently and I loved it! You can see my first review below (I went in 1999). The beach is beautiful, the food really good, the GO's fantastic, the accommodations very nice, and there are lots of sports. There are no activities organized especially for kids, so it is not a kid's place! But then you must have places to go to when you want a break and this one is really good. I met other people who went there several times and are still happy and would go back! |

High School Hell Visited: May 2001 |

A group of over 200 high school graduates ascended upon the village on our second night and pretty much took over the entire resort, we were never told about the group until that night. We felt trapped and spent extra money to escape the kids.
We booked the trip for our honeymoon, looked into the resort extensively, were told it was a "retirement" village or for couples. The GO's did little to nothing to remedy the situation, and encouraged the drunkenness by "Buy one get one free" drink promos and "all you can drink" booze cruises.
We were in our room by 9 pm every night and it wasn't because we were on our honeymoon. A couple’s resort was looking like the better choice by day two. I will never stay at a Club Med again based upon the way the staff treated us as opposed to the teenagers that made up the majority of the village.

Great food, staff, weather and fun! Visited: May 2001 |

I'm 48 years old and this was the most relaxing, yet most fun vacation, I have ever had.
The rooms were not large and not new, but were clean and everything worked fine.
The food was fantastic and I think that I gained about 6 lbs. The main dinning room had good harbor views no matter where you sat. The beach was fantastic with clear water and it was very close to the rooms. In fact the property stretched to both sides of the Island the Ocean side for the beach and the harbor side where there were frequent daytime shuttles to Nassau. Most of the excursions took off right from the dock on the bay side. Two free snorkel trips each day. There were lots of activities: tennis, archery, pitch and put—all with lessons.
The best part was the people. We ate meals with different couples all week from all around the world and that was really interesting. Almost all were very friendly.
The staff made sure that we were having fun, but didn't force participation if you wanted to just chill out by the beach or the great saltwater pool. I have to single out a couple of the GO's: Finn for teaching us to snorkel and for the Tuesday picnic, Valarie and Elise who helped us out with the Dolphin swim, Clair at the pool and an absolute "nut" (and I mean that in a good way), and finally Bart Simpson (really)--Bart was always clowning around the property in some kind of silly outfit and made us laugh all week. He was also the best part of the nightly shows, which topped off each evening.
I would not hesitate to go back to this property again, (as soon as I loose the extra lbs.). But that may even be more difficult because my wife came home with the recipe for their fantastic white chocolate bread!
