1.0 stars It was dirty, with bad service - a rip-off. Visited: July 2007

Clearly trading on its reputation and generous photos taken many years ago, the "One and Only" Ocean club is a dirty, overpriced ripoff.

We stayed in a suite, and had high hopes for a great room (priced at nearly $900/night). Instead, we had ants in the bathroom, faulty electrics, mosquitoes everywhere, rusty broken leaking pipes, noisy airconditioning.

In addition, I got food poisoning (two days in bed). The Atlantis resort itself was ridiculously overcrowded (you have to stand in line for every single thing you want to do). Also, there was litter everywhere - and a pervasive smell of rotting food and sweat. There's nothing like finding band-aids floating in the pool to make you want to get out fast.

The staff was breathtakingly rude - initially I put this down to "island time" where everything is more relaxed. Unfortunately no, the truth was they simply didn't seem to care and had no incentive to be polite. All service charges were pre-added to all bills, so we had no way of letting people know they were doing a good job.

Restaurants were outrageously expensive for really very bland and mediocre food (about 2.5-3x what you would expect to pay in the US for equivalent meal).

Also, our baggage was lost (seems to be common in this part of the world).

I suggest you avoid this dirty, nasty, rip-off. Find somewhere better to spend your money!

1.0 stars Horrible Service at a High Price Visited: July 2003

My husband and I spent a small fortune to stay at this resort inexplicably famous for its incredible and pampering service. While it's true the grounds are beautifully landscaped, the rooms in the Crescent Wing where we stayed are so-so. The furnishings are already showing signs of wear and housekeeping is sloppy. The vaulted butler service was absoultely deplorable--back home, we're still waiting for a bucket of ice we ordered two days ago. Room service was slow and sloppy: a $46 dollar sirloin steak a good 40% of which was inedible because of gristle, being brought used tea-lites after requesting candles for a romantic balcony dinner at a hotel where you're paying $700 a night for a room. The concierges were some of the rudest and most unhelpful women we have ever encountered. Service at the beach was slow and surly and, even though they don't charge you for ice or water anywhere else, on the beach it was $10 a pop. The delivery of an afternoon glass of "champagne" (too-sweet sparkling white wine, not real champagne) and 2 small chocolate covered strawberries was sporadic-- sometimes it came, sometimes it didn't. The same is true for the afternoon plate of fruit. Some days we got it, some days we didn't. Some days we got clean silver and napkins with it, others not. Some days room service replaced dirty glasses, some days they didn't. See a pattern? There was no consistency whatever to the service. To me, that means no standards. The spa villas were gorgeous, but the treatments were rushed and combined (a 30 minute hand and 30 minute foot treatment got packed into a 20 minute combined number) and obscenely expensive. Although we were told on our first day that the butler would attend to any needs, we couldn't even get him to show up with the bare essentials. At the beach, just beyond the roped off swimming area was a jet-ski highway with the kind of traffic you might expect to see during rush hour on I-95 or some other major interstate. It was loud and non-stop. Finally, the front desk manager with whom we were forced to deal more than once was arrogant and completely unhelpful. Overall, this place was a bitter disappointment. What should have been a carefree and relaxing vacation was ruined by the time and energy we had to spend just trying to get the basic services we were promised on the hotel website and the reservation staff (They said the pool was open all night). That kind of experience results in frazled nerves and the distinct feeling of being screwed.

5.0 stars This was a luxurious hotel. Visited: July 2002

This hotel was fabulous and elegant. The only thing I was not used to, was being waited on hand and foot! You must call your butler for everything! Butler service could be dreadfully slow, though. There were no self-service ice machines.

They provided nightly turn down service, hotel welcoming cocktails, free usage of business center with computer and internet access, free DVD rentals, in-room DVD and entertainment system, in-room mini-bar with bottled water, and an available duffle bag for our use to the beach. Last but not least, whatever you wanted meant you got it...but at a luxurous price!

4.0 stars Ocean club is at the top of my list. Visited: August 2001

As repeat patrons of the Ocean Club, we can say it is a place that will be at the top of your list in terms of quality service and accommodations.

The last time we were here, the Ocean Club was in the process of adding the Spa. The Dune Restaurant, which was new, was lovely. We also stayed in the new section. Our room was magnificent, though we had problems with our shower leaking.

Ocean Club is the perfect getwaway for people who want quiet during the day and the possible nightlife of the Atlantis at night.

More than likely, we will be return visitors again this summer. We have travelled to many places and in terms of quality and convenience to getting here, Ocean Club is our favorite.

4.0 stars Miss the luxurious, small private size of Hotel! Visited: November 2000

The Ocean Club was indeed my favorite hotel in the world. Having travelled to many, many places I found that the service, style and scale of the hotel to be refreshing from the typical 'bigger is better' attitude. This was what made this hotel unique!

To my great disappointment I have had to witness this quaint hotel lose its appeal to accommodate the masses. Yes, the courtyard dining and beach grill was saved but at what expense...the beach is no longer a quiet place to contemplate (and this was not due to the past hurricane as much as one is lead to believe), due to the new construction, the overflow curious and bored(?) Atlantis crowd had me wishing I remained home in my backyard.

I will know doubt, out of curiousity, decide to visit the Ocean Club once more to confirm its fate. In the meantime, I am (to my great disappointment) looking at other islands to happily spend my fortune.

4.0 stars Luxury, wrapped in a small package. Visited: May 2000

As a frequent visitor of The Ocean Club and Atlantis, I have to say, The Ocean Club is a perfect romantic getaway for adults who enjoy the ocean breeze, luxurious accommodations and perfect service.

My husband and I go on vacation to relax and unwind. Times past we could close our eyes and just hear the ocean, now, due to the highly over populated Atlantis, we can no longer hear the waves break against the shore. We demand excellence, and The Ocean Club provides everything they can to accommodate us. They can't control the mass of people screaming in the background from their neighboring property.

If you demand privacy and solitude, this place would have been for you three years ago. Unfortunately, the curious and bored guests of other properties pop in to see what lies beneath the beautiful architecture and palm trees only to find the life of luxury that we spend our wealth on being violated by people who should not be able to be there without a room key to begin with.

Outstanding people and a wonderful secluded location. It rates with top Swiss hotels for smooth service, but friendlier.

5.0 stars Pampering at its finest, and that's an understatement. Visited: December 1969

From the moment you get out of the taxi, you are greeted by Ukel, the concierge. He has the biggest smile I have ever seen. Enter to a quiet lounge and immediately you are seated with cold towels and a tropical drink. Within 15 minutes, you are checked in and the pampering begins. There is maid service four times a day, chilled champagne and gigantic chocolate strawberries waiting for you in your room after a day at the beach.

The Courtyard Terrace, in my eyes, is superior to Nassau's Greystone, although the gardens are magnificent. All in all, this is the place to be if pampering and peace and quiet are what you need. If you decide you need a little excitement, there are shuttles or taxis always available or a phone call to the concierge. This is top rated.

You are set up on the beach with towels, lounge chairs, table and a pennant. Yes a pennant, when you ned service just wave a flag and 'voila' you have instant drinks and fantastic healthy food from the beachside grille.
