There seems to be a loss of focus here. Visited: August 2008

This was our third visit. The first two were great! This last visit, we experienced a resort that was all about selling you condos and things. We were not pampered - but were just a number.

The lack of maintenance was everywhere - from rust and breaks in the outdoor lighting fixtures to broken mirrors in the casino itself. The bathroom doors had to be pried open.

The quality of the food has dropped - except at the WatersEdge. Also, they have created a village shops area that is strictly Disney-transparent cold.

It is beautiful and an eyeful with fish everywhere. However, you always feel the need to keep moving. Nothing is close anymore. Instead of relaxing, we found ourselves making excuses to not walk three blocks to a certain area or the ocean.

In addition, the noise level was frequently loud in the lobbies and fine dining areas. The dress code does not exist anymore. Our first two visits were the exact opposite.

The staff was attentive. We had no towels in our room, and the table's finish had blistered. We received the towels promptly, though. Another couple had a malfunction with their room key, and had to wait hours for the problem to be corrected and access their room.

The resort has evolved into a place to see or be seen. We wanted a resort to feel special and relax with fine dining. We hope it returns to its original mission so we can return. Now, it is the perfect destination for the "new money" crowd.

It was not worth the trip. Visited: December 2007

The staff at Atlantis was the worst I have seen. They were negative, rude and seemed ignorant.

The coral towers were even worse than the staff. This building needs to be demolished. There were numerous problems with the rooms, as I got to see travelling with a group of ten people.

The grounds were great, but that was about it. It was very expensive, and not worth half the price!

This was a boring way to visit a beautiful country. Visited: August 2007

What a disappointment!

Sure, the hotel was fancy and expensive, but the service was poor, the food was mediocre, and I might as well have stayed in the US!

This is a stupid way for anyone to visit another country. Resort vacations are not for me. I did not get to experience the culture of the Bahamas. What a bore. At least I was not the one who paid for it!

Atlantis is beautiful - but overpriced. Visited: April 2007
Posted by lisah
This place was enormous and beautiful - but way overpriced. We stayed at the Coral Towers and for $600 night, and all we got was a small hotel room with nothing extra.

The resort was big with lots of slides, pools, etc. However, it was not worth the money. If I'm paying all that money for the hotel, I shouldn't have to pay $40 for half an hour on a kayak in the lagoon, and another $200 for my friend and I to pet dolphins. It was a rip off.

Also, be very careful if you go to the Aquaventure water park. There was one ride where you get into a tube, and it takes you up a water escalator, you are then dropped down a slide with water. When you get to the middle, your butt slams down on a grid (they must not have enough water flowing through the slide).

It hurt so much! And afterward, I had two huge black and blues on my butt. I knew this didn't happen to just me because I heard other people yelling "ouch" and "ow" when they hit the grid.

Also, after I got to the bottom of the slide, I tumbled out of my tube into the water and so did my friend. Be very careful on this ride. These water slides in this part of the park are not safe at all and I've been to many resorts and water parks in my life. This one was by far the worst one.

I think you'd have more fun in Aruba or Cancun where it's cheaper.

This was a Vegas-like behemoth. Visited: August 2006
Posted by sey818
this was not really my style of places, but for what it is (a Vegas-like over-the-top monstrosity with no inkling of cultural ties to the Bahamas), it's not bad. We stayed at a nice junior suite at the Royal Towers that was very nice, so that part of the experience was good.

However, like others have said, the resort was very overpriced.

One particular word of advice -- do not eat at Nobu restaurant at the hotel. This satellite restaurant was the biggest waste of money of any meal I've ever experienced.

The dishes were very inconsistent (for example, the sushi was the quality of any mediocre sushi boat place), and the service was absolutely terrible. If you go, you are getting normal Japanese food but paying for the Nobu name.

I was not impressed. Visited: July 2006

We were here July 2006. They had nice facilities, and the service was somewhat mixed. Plan on problems and delays at registration. It was overpriced, so if you're on a budget, choose another destination.

Food poisoning seems to be a serious concern here. We stayed on the compound, and ate only at Atlantis. All four of us experienced bouts of nausea, severe vomiting, and one had diarrhea for three days. The people in the room next to us also had a bout of poisoning. While at the casino, someone sat down next to me and told me her husband was up in their room with food poisoning. My wife saw someone vomiting in the lobby bathroom.

Customer service people were of no help, saying that they were unaware of any food poisoning complaints. I filled out a complaint, and they failed to investigate it. Unfortunately, we had no recourse.

This type of thing would not have been tolerated in a US hotel. It really marred what would have been a wonderful vacation. Most healthy adults can tolerate a day or so of vomiting and diarrhea (my wife had three to four days of persistent nausea). I would not go with infants, young children, older (60 or older) adults, or anyone with underlying health problems - food poisoning may have more serious consequences with them.

However, if you feel lucky, the facilities are nice. I personally will never return. Why they seem so blase about the food poisoning puzzles me - perhaps the 2005 hurricane season had a serious impact on their earnings, and they trying to cut corners.

The slides, beach and facility were very nice. We found service and food to be poor. We had two separate bouts of food posioning in a six-night stay. One from Marketplace, and the other from Murrays delicatessen. It pretty much ruined the vacation. The manager was not helpful at all.

Harbor view is now a view of a large construction site, and is not something anyone would pay extra for.

I would definitely stay away from this place.

I think it is overrated and going downhill. Visited: June 2006

I have been to Atlantis before, and I think the place is going downhill.

The service and reception was not great. It was expensive. Also, once we checked out, they no longer helped us.

Also, the place was over crowded, our room smelled awful, and the the staff was rude to us. In addition, there were so many people (hotel staff) pushing to sell the property and other items on the beach! I am on vacation! I would like to enjoy it without being harassed!

I found it to be overrated, overpriced, overcrowded, and a disappointment. Visited: June 2006

I thought the service was terrible, rude, and slow. I found the food to be nauseating and overpriced. Also, the beaches were small and very crowded with too many hustlers.

We stayed in a suite which had broken lamps, broken shades, a broken doorbell, and stained furniture - all for $1,100 a night

We thought this was an extremely overrated place. My kids had fun in the water park, but the beach was pathetic compared to places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, etc.

Also, everything was very overpriced. By way of example - a can of Coke was $3, a liter botle of water was $9, etc.

I suggest you don't go. Spend your vacation in other places (like Mexico) where the service is good, the food is fantastic, and the beaches are bigger than a sandbox.

I thought this was a total waste of time and money. I travel extensively around the world (140,000 flight miles last year in the US alone), and I love all types of cuisine, cultures, and so forth. This was by far the worst week I have ever had on vacation.

This hotel has everything. I came here with my boyfriend, and we had a blast. I had the best time with so many things to do here - excursions, night life, dining, and beach bumming.

It was such a wonderful experience and I took home great memories.

I found it to be very, very mediocre. Visited: May 2006

I stayed Harborside at Atlantis, and liked most of this resort. The surface looked much different than what was beneath. For example, we had a beautiful looking room. But after a few hours here we had no A/C, and various little bugs were running around our room.

After three hours of sending various personnel to our room, they moved us at 10:00 pm. Also, $9 bottles of water and $10 drinks just wears thin after a few days.

Most of the staff just seemed to be going through the motions and could barely squeak out a smile. I did play Ocean Club Golf Course, and I was very impressed (it was the highlight of my trip).

I have been to Disney, and I live in NYC, so I know expensive. But Atlantis is off the scale in terms of bad value.

Atlantis had awesome architecture, pools and marine animals - it was very expensive, though. Visited: May 2006
Posted by gfbeck
This was a beautiful place - and it was enormous! The rooms were no different than those in a Holiday Inn. We stayed in the East Tower. The rugs were old in our room.

One morning, when we went to breakfast, there were half-empty glasses with drinks from the night before and open beer bottles on the table near the elevator (this was at 8:00 am). At 10:30 am that day, they still hadn't been picked up. There were a lot of children at the resort, so that could have been a big problem for them.

The meals were very expensive! A buffet for two people at dinner was $103! The pools and beach were magnificent, and the ocean life in the aquariums were great! It was very picturesque, but not somewhere that we would go again....unless we won the megabucks!

This was my worst hotel experience ever. Visited: April 2006
Posted by christyv
The good things about Atlantis were the pools and lazy rivers, and the aquariums. Other than that, the rest was a big disappointment.

Our ceiling fan did not work, and our bathroom light had a major shortage (you had to leave it on for 10-15 minutes before it lit up). Neither one was fixed during our stay, despite many phone calls.

I was charged several times for things I had not purchased. I was fraudulently charged from the spa (which I never visited), and I quickly found out from the hotel managers that they can basically do that since they are not affiliated with Atlantis (even though Atlantis gave them my card number). Also, I could not get the charges removed either. I was told to call the spa manager, who was rude to me even after I tried to explain that maybe they had me confused with someone else.

Also, the food was very overpriced and wasn't good at all. My fiance and I got sick from the buffet. Also, a 15% gratuity was automatically charged to everything.

The entire hotel experience was very disappointing. It wouldn't have been so bad if I could have just gotten someone willing to help me with the charges - instead of rudely ignoring my problem and telling me that I just needed to take care of it.

We loved the hotel, but the island itself was pretty run down. However, if you stay at the resort, it is wonderful.

We stayed in Coral Towers. It was nice, but a little worn out. All the food was three times the normal price. A large bottled water was $6.00 dollars. I would recommend the meal deal.

The straw market was fun if you like to deal, offer at least half what they ask for the item. Never pay full price. We enjoyed the marine life everywhere. It was too cold to swim for us, but some kids tried it.

I suggest you stay at a nearby hotel and use all of the facilities here. Visited: February 2006

First, let me begin by telling you that I have wanted to stay at Atlantis for years. So, my husband and I finally decide to go.

We stayed at the Royal Towers and got the Moderate meal plan. I looked at the reviews and read that it was expensive, but thought maybe they just didn't spend the money that we do on vacations.

I am not going to complain about the expense you should expect. I am going to tell about them charging your credit card $250.00 per day as soon as you check in. Since my husband and I were going to be here five days, they wanted to charge my card $1,250.00 before we got to the room. So be prepared!

I only had my debit card and $1,500.00 in cash. They did allow me to put down $300.00, but told me that I had to check it each day. But they acted like I was a criminal for not having a credit card and it was embarrassing. The reason this is done is because they encourage you to use your room key as payment. But there were a lot of upset customers in that line during check-out.

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous. But all of the surrounding hotels' guests could use all of the facilities. Why pay the high price to sleep here? And on top of the guests at Atlantis and the surrounding hotels' guests who were here, there were also the tours for the two to three cruise ships that showed up each day. It was crazy.

The food was pretty good, but service at all of the bars was horrible. There was one point when we sat at the bar for 30 minutes, got one drink, and then could not get another drink. We kept trying. Finally, after an hour and a half, we left Atlantis and went to Anthony's across the street.

Also, be warned that every time you turn around, someone at Atlantis will be trying to "invite you" to a timeshare presentation.

Atlantis really is Paradise! Visited: September 2005
Posted by deliquentztt
We arrived at the hotel the first week in September and immediately got our room the time being just before twelve noon. We were delighted our room was located in the Beach Tower. Indeed, it was an older building from the rest of the property. The room looked basic with a view of nothing, but most of our time was not spent in the room.

We ventured to the lobby area again to obtain a map (due to the enormous size of the property). The exploration began. Beauty abounds at this paradise. The aquatic life was most amazing. I went into a picture-taking frenzy. There was so much to see and so much to do, I was in complete awe!

We really enjoyed the pools. Since the property at that time had a fewer number of guests than normal, we had the opportunity to try everything once, twice, and if feeling lucky, three times!

Leap of Faith was my first slide attempt. It was strange. I moved so quickly, and for a split of a second I was completely airborne. The Challenger Slide was a whisk of speed and again off the slide before I could say AHHHH! The Jungle Slide was pretty neat, and the Serpent's Waterslide was simply amazing. It was a dark tunnel, then a bunch of turns and into the glass chamber which took me through the "shark-filled waters of the Mayan Temple"! It was truly magnificent.

Dining at this property was quite a task, as the choice of restaurants was numerous. There were 29 restaurants to choose from. The food was a tad bit expensive, though. All meals were absolutely delicious, though.

Seafire served some of the best lobster I ever had. The others that I visited - Bimini Road and Mama Loo's - were absolutely wonderful (the food and the service).

Everything during my short stay at this property was magical. I felt like a child again, and I want to feel like that every day now. Maybe I should set up residence!

Thanks, Atlantis, for one of the most memorable vacations thus far.

We found this to be an outrageously priced "Paradise". Visited: July 2005
Posted by sdbinks
We have just returned from a week at the Beach Tower. This was truly a magnificent resort, but very overpriced.

We are well-traveled, and we have yet to encounter such expensive things as we did here. In the hotel sundry shop, a newspaper from our hometown was $7.00, as was a bag of pretzels.

If you want to save some money, get the meal plan. You can get the gourmet plan, if you want to eat in the fancier restaurants. With the modified plan you are not given many choices, but it beats spending upwards of $300 per day for food.

Be advised depending when you go, the lines to get into the restaurants are long, even with a reservation (which are also hard to come by at decent times, we were only able to get 9:00 pm on many nights). Make your reservations the day you arrive.

A 15% gratuity was automatically added to our bill, regardless of it being a buffet, food court, sit down dinner or even drinks by the pool. We also had trouble getting chairs by the pool. For several days, we just kept our stuff by a palm tree!

We didn't see the rooms in the other towers, but ours was fine for our purposes. We only were there to sleep. We had a wonderful ocean view as well. We found the service to be fine with friendly staff. The grounds were just beautiful.

Our children (five and eight) loved the aquatic life around the hotel, and enjoyed the pools. In case of bad weather, there was an indoor movie theather (free) and you could make your own pottery (extra money). There were also crafts to make daily, which I believe were free.

We did tour the Harborside Resort timeshare units (and were given $125 to use at the hotel), and wound up buying a two-bedroom villa. The Harborside was very quiet compared to the Atlantis itself.

A good alternative for people wanting to save some money would be to try and find a rental at Harborside for the week. You can use all the amenities at the Atlantis, while also having a washer/dryer, kitchen, etc.

I would have given it one more star if we had gone at the right time of year. Most people here are coming with kids, so there really is no way around the crowds unless you take your kids out during the school year. I would imagine that anytime around a school break will be packed, so be forewarned.

It truly was paradise, and the water was gorgeous. Check in was at 3:00 pm, but guests could store luggage until your room was ready. It was the same thing for checkout, it was at 11:00 am, but there was a hospitality tavern where you could get a locker, shower, etc. until you are ready for your flight.

We'll be back of course, but we'll be smarter about it this time! I hope this helps someone out!

Incredible vacation but here are some tips before you go. Visited: June 2005
Posted by blcjm
We just returned June 6th from an Atlantis vacation. Although we did not stay on the Atlantis property, we did something that very few people know about. We stayed at the Comfort Suites which is closer that staying at either the Royal Towers or the Beach Towers. It also includes free continental breakfast. It is a 5 minute walk and the closest to the casino and Coral Reef Tower. The rooms are twice the size with a larger bathroom/dressing area. We traveled with 12 in our family, including children from 3-15 years. Our top 10 things to take are the following: backpack icechest, refillable water bottle with large opening that will fit ice from the ice machines, suitecase full of snacks and beverages, sunblock/sunburn releif lotion, ziplock bags in assorted sizes, minature credit card that you can wear on a stretchy wrist band, laminating kit to seal your Comfort Suites guest card (Atlantis does not take cash and the C.S. cards are needed everyday to get wrist bands and charge to your room), spraybottle with fan, pineapple juice to make your own rum punch, and swim shoes for your children. Just pack your ice chest before you go with frozen lunch meats or anything that you would like to microwave or toast in the Comfort Suites breakfast area. We took frozen hotdogs and chicken nuggets and saved tons of $$ on feeding the kids at night. Also pack lunch to take the resort so that you don't spend all your $ on lunch, you'll need it for dinner. Paradise Island is very expensive but you'll be able to afford it because you didn't spend a fortune on breakfast and lunch. Take extra bread or bagel at breakfast for your sandwich. You can get condiments at the outside resturants at Atlantis. This was a wonderful place to take the extended family with lots to do for everyone. It is pricey but worth it. Email me if you have any questons.
