5.0 stars Atlantis really is Paradise! Visited: September 2005
Posted by deliquentztt
We arrived at the hotel the first week in September and immediately got our room the time being just before twelve noon. We were delighted our room was located in the Beach Tower. Indeed, it was an older building from the rest of the property. The room looked basic with a view of nothing, but most of our time was not spent in the room.

We ventured to the lobby area again to obtain a map (due to the enormous size of the property). The exploration began. Beauty abounds at this paradise. The aquatic life was most amazing. I went into a picture-taking frenzy. There was so much to see and so much to do, I was in complete awe!

We really enjoyed the pools. Since the property at that time had a fewer number of guests than normal, we had the opportunity to try everything once, twice, and if feeling lucky, three times!

Leap of Faith was my first slide attempt. It was strange. I moved so quickly, and for a split of a second I was completely airborne. The Challenger Slide was a whisk of speed and again off the slide before I could say AHHHH! The Jungle Slide was pretty neat, and the Serpent's Waterslide was simply amazing. It was a dark tunnel, then a bunch of turns and into the glass chamber which took me through the "shark-filled waters of the Mayan Temple"! It was truly magnificent.

Dining at this property was quite a task, as the choice of restaurants was numerous. There were 29 restaurants to choose from. The food was a tad bit expensive, though. All meals were absolutely delicious, though.

Seafire served some of the best lobster I ever had. The others that I visited - Bimini Road and Mama Loo's - were absolutely wonderful (the food and the service).

Everything during my short stay at this property was magical. I felt like a child again, and I want to feel like that every day now. Maybe I should set up residence!

Thanks, Atlantis, for one of the most memorable vacations thus far.

3.0 stars We found this to be an outrageously priced "Paradise". Visited: July 2005
Posted by sdbinks
We have just returned from a week at the Beach Tower. This was truly a magnificent resort, but very overpriced.

We are well-traveled, and we have yet to encounter such expensive things as we did here. In the hotel sundry shop, a newspaper from our hometown was $7.00, as was a bag of pretzels.

If you want to save some money, get the meal plan. You can get the gourmet plan, if you want to eat in the fancier restaurants. With the modified plan you are not given many choices, but it beats spending upwards of $300 per day for food.

Be advised depending when you go, the lines to get into the restaurants are long, even with a reservation (which are also hard to come by at decent times, we were only able to get 9:00 pm on many nights). Make your reservations the day you arrive.

A 15% gratuity was automatically added to our bill, regardless of it being a buffet, food court, sit down dinner or even drinks by the pool. We also had trouble getting chairs by the pool. For several days, we just kept our stuff by a palm tree!

We didn't see the rooms in the other towers, but ours was fine for our purposes. We only were there to sleep. We had a wonderful ocean view as well. We found the service to be fine with friendly staff. The grounds were just beautiful.

Our children (five and eight) loved the aquatic life around the hotel, and enjoyed the pools. In case of bad weather, there was an indoor movie theather (free) and you could make your own pottery (extra money). There were also crafts to make daily, which I believe were free.

We did tour the Harborside Resort timeshare units (and were given $125 to use at the hotel), and wound up buying a two-bedroom villa. The Harborside was very quiet compared to the Atlantis itself.

A good alternative for people wanting to save some money would be to try and find a rental at Harborside for the week. You can use all the amenities at the Atlantis, while also having a washer/dryer, kitchen, etc.

I would have given it one more star if we had gone at the right time of year. Most people here are coming with kids, so there really is no way around the crowds unless you take your kids out during the school year. I would imagine that anytime around a school break will be packed, so be forewarned.

It truly was paradise, and the water was gorgeous. Check in was at 3:00 pm, but guests could store luggage until your room was ready. It was the same thing for checkout, it was at 11:00 am, but there was a hospitality tavern where you could get a locker, shower, etc. until you are ready for your flight.

We'll be back of course, but we'll be smarter about it this time! I hope this helps someone out!

4.0 stars Incredible vacation but here are some tips before you go. Visited: June 2005
Posted by blcjm
We just returned June 6th from an Atlantis vacation. Although we did not stay on the Atlantis property, we did something that very few people know about. We stayed at the Comfort Suites which is closer that staying at either the Royal Towers or the Beach Towers. It also includes free continental breakfast. It is a 5 minute walk and the closest to the casino and Coral Reef Tower. The rooms are twice the size with a larger bathroom/dressing area. We traveled with 12 in our family, including children from 3-15 years. Our top 10 things to take are the following: backpack icechest, refillable water bottle with large opening that will fit ice from the ice machines, suitecase full of snacks and beverages, sunblock/sunburn releif lotion, ziplock bags in assorted sizes, minature credit card that you can wear on a stretchy wrist band, laminating kit to seal your Comfort Suites guest card (Atlantis does not take cash and the C.S. cards are needed everyday to get wrist bands and charge to your room), spraybottle with fan, pineapple juice to make your own rum punch, and swim shoes for your children. Just pack your ice chest before you go with frozen lunch meats or anything that you would like to microwave or toast in the Comfort Suites breakfast area. We took frozen hotdogs and chicken nuggets and saved tons of $$ on feeding the kids at night. Also pack lunch to take the resort so that you don't spend all your $ on lunch, you'll need it for dinner. Paradise Island is very expensive but you'll be able to afford it because you didn't spend a fortune on breakfast and lunch. Take extra bread or bagel at breakfast for your sandwich. You can get condiments at the outside resturants at Atlantis. This was a wonderful place to take the extended family with lots to do for everyone. It is pricey but worth it. Email me if you have any questons.

5.0 stars We loved the Atlantis Resort. Visited: June 2005

We stayed at the Paradise Island Resort at the Coral Towers, and had the best vacation ever. We took our two daughters and our two-year-old grandson. Everyone had a blast, and we never left the resort.

It was a beautiful resort, the rooms were great and the weather was incredible.

The room was great, the staff was friendly, and the room service and housekeeping were both excellent.

We had read negative reviews before we went, but were extremely impressed when we arrived.

The food was slighly expensive, but we chose to eat at the moderate restaurants. The poolside food was good and affordable. We also brought snacks from the states with us.

I highly recommend staying at this resort.

4.0 stars It was amazing for all ages and all interests! Visited: April 2005

Atlantis was an amazing resort. There was something for everyone. I took one star off for the fact that it was very hard to make reservations for some restaurants.

I loved seeing the fish, especially in "The Dig." I went on a ride were we sat on a rapid and sailed through a tunnel and could see all the sharks and other fishes.

Although it was hard to get reservations, it worked out for us because we took a cab into Nassau were we ate in "Chez Willie". It was definitely a unique dining experience, and all the staff were good with children. I loved it so much.

The resort pools were excellent and I loved the slides. The rooms were really clean, too. If you can stay in a suite - go for it because it was really big and you can sit on your veranda and look over the resort and gaze at the beach.

In Nassau, you must go to the Straw Market and look at the lovely antiques. Take the ferry and try to get "The Fluff and Hunny" because the tour guide was really funny. You can also take a cab or walk.

If you really want a great holiday where there is something for all ages and all interests, Atlantis resort is the most amazing place in the Caribbean to go.

3.0 stars We were not impressed with Atlantis. Visited: March 2005
Posted by jrose28806
We just returned from five nights at Atlantis, staying at the Coral Towers. While the resort itself was just beautiful and very impressive, our experience while there was not what I would expect for these prices.

The service was irregular - sometimes great, sometimes so slow and irresponsible. Our biggest complaint was the difficulty getting chairs around the pool and beach. If we were not out there by 7:00 a.m. to reserve a chair (or were not willing to pay off an attendent to "find" one for us), we were out of luck.

The place was so very crowded that there were lines for everything - towels for the pool, tables in the restaurants, slides, drinks. Our pool was closed for 1 1/2 days without any explanation provided by the staff - just a lifeguard posted to say "keep out".

The children's camp was wonderful, but there were many disappointed people who couldn't get in.

Our expectation of a resort at this level is that there is enough to go around for the number of people staying there - and that a certain level of comfort is provided without hassle. We did not experience this at Atlantis and left disapointed.

2.0 stars Total dissapointment Visited: March 2005

Atlantis experience was not even close to what we expected. We did Imperial Club, which cost us almost $800 a night and it was a total waste of money. Rooms are comparable with Comfort Inn and you all know the price for that. Most of the resort staff had an attitude and it took them forever to correct any error (even billing!). Everything is way overpiced and so called "gourmet restaurants" were not worth the money we spent there. Bottom line for us -- never again!

This place was amazing! My 15-year-old daughters had a blast. They were never bored. Also, with the resort so secluded, we didn't have to worry about them. I felt so safe.

My husband and I had a very romantic get away. This was the perfect place for a family vacation. I highly recommend the Royal Towers. It was not overcrowded, the beach was absolutley gorgeous, and we had the time of our lives! I would never stay any place else.

3.0 stars Wonderful property, poor service. Visited: February 2005

We stayed during President's week in the beach tower (least expensive building) I'm not sure if we treated differently because we were staying in the lower priced ($625 per night for family of 4) building. The place is amazing and the pool water was warm enough. The prices were not that expensive if you eat in the right places. When you're with kids you can get them a burger and fries or chicken fingers. The food was good. We checked in at 6 pm and our room was not ready, they told us to walk around and come back in 10 minutes. the grounds are really kool with the shark tanks and all. we came back 2 hours later and our room was still not ready. when it was finally ready, they gave us a view of a parking lot when we paid for oceanview. we called the front desk and they said you must be here between 1 and 2 the next day to be moved. the next day when we went to the front desk, it took 3 hours to change our room. but hey, they gave us a $50 credit for the difference in room view rates for the one night. great, now we were able to get our kids ice cream at the icecream parlor! the front desk "manager" said that was all she could do. anyway, the first day we ate and drank from the in room mini bar since the suitcase full of snacks and soda etc. that we brought along was lost by Delta airlines along with our kids bathing suits. we only had to pay $86 the next day for two boys swim trunks. the bags arrived the next night but not before we charged $13.50 on the mini bar which came up as $43.50. we called the front desk 5 times and went down there 4 times during our stay and it was finally taken off the day we left. 5 minutes before we checked out. very aggravating! the first day we called for a cot and they said 45 minutes and we had to call again. after we moved rooms the same thing happened. 2 calls for the cot again. oh and you have to get up by 7 AM or so to get chairs by the pool or beach or you'll have to camp out on the cement ground. I was at the ATlantis in 1997 and it was great. I think they have too many rooms now and not enough staff and they act as though they are doing you a favor by letting you stay there. While the place is beautiful and the water slides awesome, you get the feeling of being at a zoo. there are soooo many guests. too many. and long lines for the towels and wristbands. (Not long lines for the slides) Very slow, maybe uncaring people working??? You feel lost in the crowd. This is definately not 5 star. If high prices, long lines and poor service don't bother you, you will love this place because the hotel and the grounds are one of the most beautiful places you'll ever see!

3.0 stars It was incredibly crowded and expensive, but has potential. Visited: December 2004
Posted by pam_metz
We just returned from a six-night stay at the Atlantis with some other family members. We arrived in the early evening and were quickly escorted to the Imperial Club in the Royal Tower. Check in was a breeze. And during the course of our stay, I really came to appreciate the efficient and helpful concierege service that paying the extra for the Imperial Club got us! And the breakfast, tea snacks, happy hour, and desserts were great.

It was my two kids (8 and 10) and me, so our room on the 17th floor with two doubles was sufficient for us, but nothing fancy - i.e. nothing special in the furnishings or decor. I recently stayed in an airport Sheraton that was nicer! However, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was large.

My kids never wanted to do the Discovery Camp, but they went to Club Rush from 4-7pm on two different nights and liked it. One night was horribly crowded. There certainly was a lot for kids to do here, with all of the sea life, water slides, lagoon, etc.
However, if you want to take advantage of everything, I would not recommend going the week between Christmas and New Year as we did.

The resort was huge, but didn't seem huge enough to accommodate the masses of people there that week. If we wanted chairs even remotely near the edge of any of the pools, we had to get up at 7:00 am or earlier to stake our claim to chaise lounges. Who wants to have to do that on vacation? The lagoon was less crowded.

For food, we ate at Great Hall of Waters, Fathoms, and Mama Loos. They were nothing special and not worth the money. But, not too be missed are the Bahamanian Club, Villa d'Este and the Marketplace Buffet - all were excellent. Murray's Deli was okay, too. We usually ate such big breakfasts and dinners that we skipped lunch, especially if we dropped into the Imperial Club for afternoon tea snacks. But the kids sometimes got burgers at one of the pool or beachside grills and they were always good.

The main reason I gave this resort three stars was because of the crowds, and the way the resort seemed to have difficulty accommodating the throngs comfortably.

Our family is from Colorado and California, and we were frankly very shocked at the behavior and attitudes of some the other guests, most of whom seemed to be from the east coast. The hotel staff seemed to tolerate the mistreatment and bad behavior to a point, and then would snap and take it out on everyone around them.

So, crowds, rude guests, rooms that were nothing special, and the expense were our big beefs with Atlantis. I would consider going back during the low season perhaps, but never during the holidays or spring break. It was too much money to be that aggravating.

I had read many reviews prior to my departure about rude workers, lack of chairs, and the expense. The only thing I found to be true for my family was the expense. And even that was not a suprise. The staff was very professional and willing to carry on a conversation. Our room in the royal towers was supurb. Large room with two queen beds and a large bathroom with great water pressure. I could not hear others through the walls. Avoid the items in the fridge/bar.

There were plenty of chairs around the pools and even at the beach. You will be asked if you want hair brading, foot massage or jetskiing but the locals take "no thank you" well. Pretty significant undertow at the beach so keep an eye on the kiddies.

We ate at the buffets for all but lunch. We chose the american meal plan and probably saved around $10.00. I would not join the plan next time so I dont feel the necissity to eat dinner on the property. Lunch was often at the pools were you can purchase a meal for 4 including burgers, fries and sodas for 26.00. Not a bad price and the burgers were pretty good.

Look for the hotel/flight packages to same money. We bought ours through expedia and saved a considerable amount of money.

Went snorkling with stewart's cove's and had a blast. Also a good deal. Purchase online or at the excursion center in the resort.

We took bottled water with us to save some money and we did not find it a hassel at all.

We plan on going back soon.

5.0 stars This is one great vacation spot! Visited: August 2004
Posted by merlygirl
My boyfriend and I have always wanted to go to Atlantis, and got the chance last August. It was the greatest time that we have ever had. We loved the resort, and the staff treated us so kindly. We fell in love with the country and the people. The resort had so much to offer us, we never went bored.

The meal plan was the best way to go. We enjoyed every meal. We missed out on the Friday night Bar-b-que, but our travel agent did not inform us to reserve our place for dinner before we arrived, since it was a Friday. But we had a great meal anyway. The food was really great.

There was so much to do, we are going back again this September. And we can't wait.

After reading numerous conflicting reviews of Atlantis, I was worried! But, we were pleasantly surprised. Everything was great.

I definitely agree that this resort is for families, not couples. We took our 4 1/2 year old and she had a blast. I highly recommend Discovery Camp--she went twice and begged to go again.

The food was good...I think you'll come out spending the same whether you get the Modified Meal Plan or not. We bought it and it worked out well because our daughter ate for free. Without the meal plan, we would have had to pay for her meals.

Also, we packed snacks-more than we needed. Don't bring water-it's a hassle. Yes, things were expensive, but not too bad.

As for the room, we stayed in the Beach Tower and it was not bad at all. You're really only in the room at night, so save your $. Also, it was close to the beach.

I had read that the staff was unfriendly. That was not the case for us. Everyone was very eager to help. However, do not go to the concierge desk or you will be hit with the sales pitch for buying a timeshare. It was very annoying.

A few key points: 1. Five days at Atlantis is perfect; you may get bored after that.
2. Don't forget pool toys or floats for the kids
3. Bring sweaters because you'll be inside for dinner and any night activities and they keep it cool.
4. There isn't a "night life", so go to dinner late if possible, otherwise you'll be watching tv in your room unless you go to the casino.
5.Lastly, don't forget your camera because it's gorgeous! Enjoy!

1.0 stars We got food poisoning here. Visited: March 2004
Posted by jaimedag
I have been to Atlantis twice before and loved it! Yes, our rooms were never ready and we could never check out late, but we rolled with the punches. Until this time.

Time #3. My father and husband got food poisoning from Murry's Deli on our last night. We went to the resort doctor, who diagnosed them with food poisoning and gave them prescriptions.

We missed our flight and got a doctor's note for insurance purposes. While they were at the doctor, and I was watching my nine-month-old son, I received a phone call telling us they were over-booked and we needed to check out. They found us the last two rooms in Nassau at a two-star hostel down the road. They wouldn't even let us stay in our rooms.

We fought. We got our rooms back. Nobody called to check if we were well or even comfortable. We had to pay for our rooms full price (and any other expenses we had).

We also never recieved a cot we requested on day day. Both our TVs were broken and had to be replaced, our shower didn't work, and we were charged for stuff out of the mini bar when we didn't use it.

Also, the hotel book indicated that internet access was $.05 a minute, we got a three-minute charge of $6.00. We were told they upped our prices to $.50. They said they would refund us and never did!

My baby threw up all over the crib one night, so I asked for an extra sheet...I saw it two days later. When we filed our security report for the food posoning, we asked for a copy...we had to go down two days later and fight for it.

The service was horrible. I would much rather go elsewhere. The pools were freezing and half of the slot machines didn't work. Sounds fun, huh? We are still in the process of fighting for our rooms.

This was the most awesome resort I've ever seen and stayed at. We had a room in the east tower of the Royal Towers with just the best view over the lagoons and the ocean. The rooms had a TV with over 50 channels, including four about the hotel complex. There was a full mini-bar including beers, sodas, coke, snacks, etc.

We had a king bed, but there was also the alternative of two queens if you prefer.

The restaurants were just the best with the average price of a main at about $40, which I didn't think was at all bad considering the standard of the food. It was fantastic. We ate at Fathoms - seafood, Villa D'Este - Italian, Mama Loo's - Chinese, Atlas Bar and Grill and 5 Twins - Asian which we considered top notch. All restaurants had some kind of entertainment going on like singers, bands, or fire-eaters! There were about 25 places to eat at on the resort, so there was something for everyone.

But, this place was all about the marine life and it was staggering. There were hundreds of species in lagoons including sharks, rays, piranha.

The beaches and pools were great. There were three beaches - Cabbage Beach which was in front of the hotel; the Cove: and Atlantis Beach a short walk away.

Although the beaches and pools closed around 6:00 pm there was plenty of other stuff to keep you going. There was also a comedy club and a cinema on site.

Take a trip into Nassau on the Paradise island ferry. It was a hoot and you'll get a local giving you some live commentary about the region.

All in all, it was the best holiday I've ever been on and we will definitely return.

5.0 stars There are not enough words to decsribe the Atlantis Resort! Visited: July 2003
Posted by adidaslyn
Upon graduating from high school, three other graduates and I stayed at the Atlantis Resort for five days. Every day since then, I have wished that I was still there! Every detail on the property was simply amazing. We had such a wonderful time with all of the activities and sights to see. Here is my best advice for visiting there:

1. Expect to spend money on food! Or, try to pack what snacks you can. At the resort, the only places to get cheap food were by the pools (where a hamburger was still like $6).

We walked across the bridge to Nassau and ate there a couple times. The walk wasn't bad and it saved us $6 in ferry fees. I would certainly do that more often if I went back. But, you can get by without spending too much money on food here if you don't go to the most expensive restaurants every night. I promise!

2. Sadly, the beaches and pools closed very early in the evening. So, try to plan for other activities at night. Mostly, we went to the casino, which I definitely recommend! We had a great time there - the casino was really out of this world!

3. Things you HAVE to do: Play on the putt-putt golf course. Although it was a little expensive, it was certainly worth it and I would've paid more - the best I've ever seen.

Also, you have to go down each slide (Yes, even the one that makes you feel like you just fell off a building!) Next ... go down Lazy River at least ten times like we did. There's nothing more relaxing in the world. You also have to visit the casino - it's amazing!

1.0 stars Maids getting busy in the room. Visited: May 2003

So we arrive at the hotel and the evil front desk girl checks us in. She said we would have to wait a couple hours until our room was ready. So we wait, the kids play with the stinging jellyfish in the water. What fun! Back to the hotel, we finally get our room and our kids are so excited we give them the key to open the room. Our kids come running down the hall screaming. Turns out the maid and the maintenance man were having "relations" in one of the beds. Not pretty. Then to our shock, they said the room was not ready and to come back in an hour. We go down to the front desk where they say it will be an hour then the same room would be ready. Not an acceptable answer. Good luck if you bring your children.

3.0 stars A grreat place, but the food was horrible. Visited: May 2003

I was really looking forward to staying at the Atlantis. I watched the movie "Holiday in the Sun" which was a Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie filmed at the Atlantis. I was so excited because of seeing all the fun things they did in the movie.

As soon as I got to the airport, we had to take a cab ride to the resort. The town was small, and not very pretty, which made the resort seem one of a kind. It was gorgeous.

When I arrived at the Atlantis, I checked in, and then hit the slides. They were great - especially the ones that went through the shark pools. The beaches were amazing, with warm, white sand and crystal clear water. Guests could rent jet skis on the beach, get a massage, or go parasailing. I recommend swimming with the dolphins. It was a great experience.

When it came time to eat, we were excited to try the food.

The service was okay, but very slow. You had to make reservations early in advance, because of the high demand. Usually, we ended up eating late at night, if we did not reserve our dining plans early.

When we got our food, we found a hair in it, and the plates were dirty. Also, the silverware and glasses were poorly cleaned. It was disgusting. Also, we asked for bread, and when the waiter was bringing it to the table, he dropped the basket, and one piece of bread fell out, and he picked it up off the floor like nothing happend, and put it back into the basket.

The manager simply made a scene when we complained to her about the dirty dishes and glasssware, the hair in the food, and the bread incedent. She would not do anything about it, and made us pay for the dinner we did not eat.

I reccomend going to the Atlantis for the fun and entertainment, but not for the food. Try going off the island to a nearby resteraunt. That way you don't have to deal with poor service or high prices.

If you have any questions. E-Mail me
