This hotel is a great place to stay if you are looking for a good place to stay in the Bahamas. Trust me, this hotel is wonderful for the kids and the parents. It has a lot of different things that you can do.

I had a great time staying here. It was so so wonderful.

1.0 stars I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. Visited: January 2006

I did not like this hotel at all. It was severely outdated, and I found most of the women to be rude.

The fitness facility was very poorly maintained. Of the two treadmills, one was out of order every day of our stay. The first day of our stay, the water in our bathroom was rusty, and had to run for quite some time until clear water was visible.

Also, the hotel did not have any food service after hours. The front desk directed the guests to the neighboring hotel for meals, which were very costly.

The bar served watered down drinks. The only time the women were nice to us was when we were on our way to the airport for our flight home.

I plan to return to the Bahamas, but will not stay at this hotel, and would not recommend it to others. The rude women may have been easier to deal with, had the hotel been up to par.

3.0 stars It was a nice beach, but full of spring breakers! Visited: March 2005

This hotel was located in Cable Beach, and was surrounded by many other hotels, beaches, and a casino.

Since the hotel was full of sping breakers, I wouldn't reccommend staying here if you plan to make it a family affair.

Atlantis or the Hilton would be more family-oriented and would offer superior service and plenty of things to do.

I found this hotel to be junk. I thought the staff was rude and I believe they ripped me off $100. Also, there was no heater.

I also noticed there was no phone number or email address for this hotel.

3.0 stars I had an enjoyable and peaceful stay! Visited: October 2003

There are so many mixed reviews about this hotel, it's unbelievable! I spent 14 nights here and experienced a pleasantly memorable stay. My review will concentrate on appearance, services and safety which is what the bad reviews seem to focus on.

Hotel appearance: The hotel's web site provided accurate pictures of the hotel's appearance during my stay. The hotel was experiencing a quiet spell in October, but all restaurants were open except Pineapple Place. All other facilities were also available.

They had a number of renovations underway during my stay, including pool repairs, new carpets and general refurbishments. Modernization appeared underway, although the appreance of the hotel was not as old-fashioned as the Wyndham!

Room appearance: I viewed four 'SuperSaver'rooms before I chose. One of the four had the mildew smell that some reviewers complained of. My room was spotlessly clean with fully- functioning appliances, including a mini-refrigerator.

However, requests to front desk were addressed slowly, if at all - but it paid to be persistent! The staff was courteous.

Safety: As a single female traveler, I generally felt safe at the Nassau Beach Hotel, although the hotel could employ more 'visible' security staff to patrol the long hallways.

Entertainment: The Living Room nightclub in the basement of the hotel was fun and lively, although small. The live, outdoor band at Johnny Canoe's one the weekends was pleasant if you can bear the mosquito bites! The food there was reasonably priced with American sized portions. Staff often made the effort to introduce single travelers like myself to other travelers to heighten the social experience.

I plan to stay here again when I visit in 2004. I would also advise anyone to choose this hotel over the pricier neighboring hotels such as the Wyndham, Radisson and SuperClub Breezes if you prioritize value and comfort over a multitude of 'services' and hotel-provided entertainment which are all available on the Cable Beach strip anyway!

1.0 stars A bad place hard to forget Visited: August 2003

As my family and I were ending our vacation on August 21, 2003 two gunmen attacked us inside room 423. They stole our property and money and brutally attacked my wife and my 15 year old daugther. As a result of this they were taken later to the hospital.
A second family from New York was attacked similarly after the thugs left our room.
The hotel doesn't have surveillance cameras in the premises. They have no idea who walks in and out and their staff is totally unprapared to confront criminals.
Our lives have changed for ever as a result of this traumatic experience. Hotel management and owners have not taken any responsibility for these security failures.
This property should not even be listed in your reviews. It's a dangerous place.

3.0 stars Nassau Beach is a comfortable hotel in a great location. Visited: August 2003

My husband and I honeymooned here in August 2003. After reading some of the negative reviews here, I was more than a bit apprehensive. We did request (and received) a room in the newer part of the hotel.

The beach was beautiful and spotlessly clean! There were a few vendors on the beach, but they were not intrusive at all. We stayed a total of three nights. Our room was cleaned daily by very friendly, personable staff, and we had plenty of towels each day. This was not a luxury hotel. I would describe it as comfortable and cozy. It would be great for families and couples.

Try the breakfast buffet at The Pineapple Place, they had excellent food. And for lunch and/ or dinner I would highly reccomend Johnny Canoe's. The food in the Bahamas was expensive, but Johnny Canoe's fare was very reasonable and delicious The restuarant was adjacent to the hotel and featured live entertainment, no cover. They served the best Pina Colada I have ever tasted.

I wish more restaurants had been open in the hotel, but all in all, we had few complaints, and when we did, they were resolved right away (like the clogged tub).

The smaller outdoor pool was gorgeous and the hotel grounds were beautifully maintained. If you are looking for value, and like a quaint setting, this is the hotel for you.

I was here November 2002. This hotel was exceptional and at a great location. The beach was awesome and we really felt safe at this hotel. We were able to ride the local bus downtown each day for just $2. If you've ever gone to the Bahamas, you will know that cab fare is not cheap. So the $2 charge was a blessing. We really enjoyed our stay, and the staff was more than nice.

4.0 stars We had a blast! Visited: May 2003

Before going on this trip, I read the reviews and trust me, it was not as bad as other people made it seem. A vacation is what you make out of it.

My boyfriend and I went for Memorial weekend and we had so much fun. It was the best vacation ever.

The Nassau Beach Hotel was a very nice hotel. We had a beautiful view of the pool and the ocean, which we didn't even have to pay extra for. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

In the lower lobby of the hotel, there was a club called the Living Room. The Wyndham hotel was right next door. We were able to use their pool and jacuzzi at night. It was very romantic. In the lobby of our hotel there was a liquor store, and the prices were very inexpensive.

Johnny's Cafe was also right next to the hotel and the staff was also very friendly. We rented jet skis ($40 per person), we went on the booze and cruise ($50 per person), we partied at 601 and we went to the Atlantis Resort for the day.

The only negative thing about the hotel was that we had asked for a refrigerator for our room, and we never got it. The other thing was that the pool needed to be fixed up, so we used Wyndham's pool right next door.

But other than that, the place was clean, the beach was beautiful, and the view from our balcony room was amazing. I would definitely go back to the Nassau Beach Hotel. It was worth the price we paid.

4.0 stars It was wonderful! Visited: November 2002

We stayed at the Nassau Beach Hotel in mid-November 2002 and had a positively wonderful time!

The hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly - they were wonderful. The beach was extraordinary - it was the best on Cable Beach! The atmosphere was perfect - and oh, that water! It was surreal!

This was my fifth trip to Nassau, and my first stay at The Nassau Beach Hotel. It is now the only place I'll stay from now on! It was a great value. It wasn't the Ritz, but who needs that with that terrific beach? Plus, you have the luxury of using the facilities at the Wyndam Crystal Palace next door - so you can't lose!

I highly recommend this property.

4.0 stars It's two hotels in one! Visited: July 2002

My stay at the Nassau Beach was excellent and I would come back here again. It was a great value! Not only do you get to use all the facilities here, but also at next door's Marriott Crystal Palace.

The beach area was nice and quiet, but the Marriott pool and bar had a party atmosphere along with a large water slide. There were many restaurants to choose from between the two hotels. Cafe Johhny Canoe's and Goombay Mamas were both very good.

The weather in the Bahamas was exceptional and the people at both hotels were friendly. The Nassau Beach rooms were adequate, had plenty of towels and were clean, but were a little run down. My view of the beach from my balcony was fantastic!

We stayed at this resort recently and enjoyed ourselves. There were four of us in the old wing and three in the new. My friend said that their rooms didn't seem any newer or nicer than ours. It did not smell like olives and it was clean.

We did not have any of the problems with service like others have said. We had plenty of towels and everything worked. Someone from the hotel even called us half way through the trip to make sure we had everything we needed.

If you're looking for the Ritz, this is not the place for you. Nassau is such a busy place most people only sleep in their room. Every room was oceanview.

The best thing we did was go on the VIP cruise. They took us snorkling, then onto an uninhabited island. The snorkling was great and the island was absolutely beautiful. The sand was so white and fine it looked and felt like powder, and the water was amazingly clear and warm. It was $40 and you can get it from the guys in the white sailor suits walking on the beach. The trip included lunch and rum runners.

The front desk staff was very nice and so was the lobby.

I would recommend staying here if you can get a room in the new wing. The hallway to our room smelled like bad olives. The room had mold everywhere, the toilet was sticky and the water didn't run clear. There was no room service either. The only nice part of the room was the view of the water.

We moved to another hotel after one night which was more expensive but worth it.

3.0 stars Good Value, and Clean! Visited: July 2001
Posted by mycrappola
After reading some of the reviews on the Internet, I wasn't sure what to think of it -- some reviews were definitely positive, while others were the polar opposite! However, my girlfriend and I decided to take the plunge and try it.

Good news: the hotel is fine. We had a 6th floor room with a great view. The way the hotel is designed, I think that 99% of rooms have a good view.

Pros:
- hotel was clean
- staff was friendly (everyone says hello down there)
- right on the beach
- access to Marriott next door (casino, restaurants, some shopping, pool)
- right on bus route to downtown (bus fare is now $1 instead of $0.75); will take you 5-10 minutes
- Sbarro Italian food was good; there' also a Subway sandwich place + grocery store a 20- minute walk (4-minute bus ride) to the West

Cons:
- Hotel and room were a little rough around the edges (balcony door had no lock, bathroom had no fan and there was an empty hole in the light socket, sink didn't plug properly, maid lost the remote control to the TV and we didn't get one even after phoning the front desk three times).

Overall, I would return to this hotel. It's good value for what we got it. I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars because I think it was Holiday Inn quality (4/5), but there were those small problems that I mentioned.

3.0 stars Worth it! Visited: July 2001

This was my second visit to the Nassau Beach Hotel (my first was two years ago). I had some concerns about this trip so I emailed the hotel to inquire as to whether or not there was anything I could do in advance to ensure that we did not encounter the problems that others had. The hotel did call, but unfortunately I missed it.

We arrived to gorgeous weather (you have to like it hot)! Although check-in time was 3:00pm, we were able to check in right away at 2:00pm. Our room had a balcony with an incredible view of the pool and the beach! We went through Sunquest and so we expected to stay in the older wing like my last trip. (It’s still a nice room, just no hot water.) But this trip we were in a newer wing, which may (or may not) explain why we had no problems.

We did speak with a couple guests staying in the older wing that did have problems getting enough towels, but that was the only complaint we heard.

As for the Bahamas, the people are friendly, the water is warm, and the weather is beautiful! The locals definitely have their own way of doing things. The bus drivers are fast and seem to have driving down to a science since the roads are narrow with few stoplights. Plus they drive on the opposite side!

The food and drink service is slow it helps to relax and remember you are on vacation. Gratuities are included on the bill, which may have an influence on the service. For you tea drinkers you will need to ask for milk several times before you actually get it as they like to serve cream.

All in all, I recommend a visit!

3.0 stars Worth staying where the friendly people work. Visited: June 2001

I would recommend The Nassau Beach Hotel to anyone traveling to The Bahamas. It was affordable and the beach was wonderful.

My sister and I stayed there because our best friend was getting married on the beach at Sandels. Everyone we ran into who worked at The Nassau Beach Hotel was very kind and friendly. They did everything to make our stay more enjoyable.

The rooms were cleaned every morning with new linens and fresh towels. The helpful people at The Nassau Beach Hotel made our vacation stress-free.

The hotel is not that bad, stay away from the first floor...it is cool but wet and had some wet carpet from a few leaks in the roof plumbing. Let's get right to the point it is a very nice hotel in the middle of everything and the staff was nice. My advice is to rent the rooms and use the Marriott's amenities.

The beach is beautiful and that's why I was really down there to begin with. It was nicer than the Marriotts or any other we saw (Breezes, etc.). Johnny Canoes is not that good, we ate at the Black Anges in the Marriott and it was about a hundred dollars for two but the steak and lobster was off the wall. The booze and cruise was a great four hours...we had the best time that day. It's a good way to see the sights and have a ball. If you are not into drinking or dancing do something else, good value, forty per person. Phils deli in the Marriott was really good for breakfast and it's open twenty-four hours and is a good price.

Use the bus, it's a great value and the taxis runs about twenty dollars in general for four people.

In closing, I recommend the value of the Nassau Beach Hotel, the rooms were nice and a great beach view. My thoughts are it was nice enough to spend what little time I wanted in a room. I wish I was still there on the beach, it was wonderful.

3.0 stars A great deal in the Bahamas Visited: May 2001

I stayed here for Memorial Day weekend and was pleasantly surprised by it. My room was huge; it overlooked the ocean and the pool with a patio to lounge out on.

The room, and the hotel in general, were quite clean. I didn't notice any mildew smell at all. They are a bit stingy with the towels, so it's a good idea to pack one in case they make you wait for a fresh supply.

Overall, I was very satisfied with the Nassau Beach and felt I got a real bargain compared to what the other hotels on Cable Beach were charging.

With my sister's wedding approaching, I decided to take her away on a trip as a final girls trip before she was married. Having stayed at the Nassau Beach Hotel in 1998, I thought it would be a great place to spend the four nights-at a great price. We booked the trip and were really excited about going.

When we arrived at the hotel we were assigned a room that was pretty nice and clean looking at first glance. The shower was running and when we tried to turn it off it would not. No big deal so we called the front desk and alerted them of the problem. We unpacked our bags and were getting settled in the room when we noticed a patch of water on the floor. The roof had been leaking or something. I decided to check to make sure that the toilet worked before the people came to fix the shower in case it was not working and we needed to get another room. I opened the toilet seat and realized that our room had obviously not been cleaned for quite some time. Immediately we packed our bags and called the front desk to find us another room. The rude front desk staff member said there were no other available rooms and we had to stay in our assigned room. We met her at the front desk and demanded another room.

When we got to our new room the beds were not properly made, the windows did not open, there were no pillowcases, soap, hand towels or facecloths. We didn't want to speak with the front desk again because they probably didn't care anyway. In the morning I called housekeeping to get the necessary items and had to wait until that evening at about 10 p.m. after calling three times, and still did not get pillowcases.

The remainder of our stay was okay as long as I wrote a note to housekeeping to let them know we needed pillowcases, facecloths and soap. The trip was fun, the hotel was a big disappointment.

My husband and I have stayed at the Nassau Beach 4 times in the last 6 years. Always had wonderful service until this year. We purposely stayed at the Nassau Beach because it was always clean, nice people and the service was great. We have a two-year-old that also travels with us.

This time we had horrible service. We were here for 8 days. Could not get a refrigerator to keep milk, juice, etc. for our baby. There was never any ice in the ice machine to even put a bottle of milk in the ice bucket, when there was a little ice someone in the other rooms would put bottles of beer, etc. in the machine - not very sanitary, wouldn't you say!

Had to ask for clean linens (towels) everyday. We were lucky if we got 1 or 2 bath towels. Never received any hand towels or wash cloths. And the beaches were dirty, glass, trash, etc. We were so surprized to have received such bad service. Hopefully it will get better in the future. But my family chooses to get it at some other hotel.
