3.0 stars I would definitely stay here again! Visited: November 2000

I took my girlfriend on her first ever trip to Nassau in November. After reading some of the reviews I wasn't sure, but 18 out of 21 of them being positive, we couldn't go wrong.

The rooms were clean and neat, and the hotel had quite a few nice amenities. The staff were polite and we never had a reason to complain. The only things we noticed was the smell of mildew as we first entered, and problems regulating the hot/cold water while taking a shower.

You have full use of the Marriott next door, but don't bother with the show at the Marriott; it wasn't that good. Lots of liquor, perfume, cigar, and jewelry stores. Cafe Johnny Canoe's was fine, take the bus, not the cabs, do the straw market, do Atlantis, and just relax—everyone else here does.

The funniest thing is, I never thought about doing any research on a hotel before actually booking the trip. Believe it or not, I solely relied on the word of my newly appointed Liberty travel agent.

I have always wanted to go to the Caribbean, however, not at the expense of by life savings. My stay at the Nassau Beach Resort was well worth the money I paid for my stay. I found that the hotel was beautiful inside and out. It was very inexpensive to stay there. I think for hotel and airfare was under $900 dollars for five nights and six days departing from New York City.

Once I got there, I found too many things to do daily—if not on the beach, then in town. I found the beach activities to be the best because there was so much information on what to do and when to do it at the beach. One thing I must say is if you are not used to negotiating prices, this trip can get expensive. Be prepared to haggle prices on the beach and in town. (It works. Trust me!) A jet ski rental can run you from $60-$80 depending on your overall appearance. However, if you shoot the breeze and relax you can get it for $30 hassle free.

The room was very nice. I had an ocean view. At night it's phenomenal to view. The housekeeping was on point as well. I cannot remember ever having to make requests; things were always there. My trip was such a success that I am booked to go back this Sunday for another stay, yet another year. Hopefully it will be the same if not better.

My son and I stayed here and had a great time. The staff at the hotel were very helpful to all our needs. We went on a super saver program and ended up on the 4th floor poolside with a great view of the ocean.

The room was nice, a little old but very clean. The staff did a good job cleaning our room daily. The hotel also had coffee every morning in the lobby & they also had a free cocktail party on Friday night.

The beach was beautiful, but there were a lot of people coming over from the Marriott; there was still plenty of room without being crowded. There were rafts and floats but not many. Be ready to deal with the hackers, Jet ski was $60 a half hour, $50 before 9:00 a.m., parasailng was $50. They did provide us with beach towels.

When you go downtown to the straw market take the bus, you can get it right in front of the hotel and it only costs 75 cents. Watch out for the taxis, they will rip you off. Go to Johnny Canoes, it's a must. The food was great and the staff very friendly.

All in all, it's a great place for the money. I would definitely go back.

3.0 stars Nassau Beach--a little more renovation and it will be all good. Visited: August 2000

When I first walked in, I noticed that while the lobby was attractive, I couldn't help smelling faint hints of mildew; little did I know that this was the case throughout the entire hotel--even in the rooms. The oceanview rooms do, however, make up for the smell--the view was breathtaking! (Request a room ending in "17" for this.)

There was a black-out on my first night which meant there was no air-conditioning. There were several guests in the hotel lobby (the lobby suspiciously still had a/c) trying to cool off. We weren't apologized to for the mishap or offered a drink or any other appeasing thing while we waited for them to correct the problem. Once the a/c was restored, everything was fine.

The safes in the rooms were inoperable, it took forever to get towels/facecloths, and the housekeeping staff wasn't very thorough with the cleaning. Just Remember, when you call to complain, do so nicely--you will not be heard otherwise (if you are snobby)!

The staff were very laid-back, but such was the case with Bahamians in general. If you're looking for people to treat you royally, this is not where you should stay.

The hotel was in an awesome location on the beach and it was adjacent to the Marriott, Radisson, Breezes, etc. There was plenty to do. The "Booze & Cruise" boat docks just cattycorner to the Nassau Beach; this 3-hr. or so cruise is a must!! For $40, there was a lunch, unlimited cocktails, a DJ, and just a non-stop, flat out party!!

The food in the Bahamas was sort of expensive, but that was to be expected when traveling. Café Johnny Canoe's was in the hotel and the food was perhaps the most varied and the most reasonably priced. There was a live band at Johnny Canoe's which provided for entertainment. Sbarro's was also in the Nassau Beach, but it was very expensive.

Watch out for the taxi drivers--they were vultures--take the $.75 bus to town instead!!!

Overall, the Nassau Beach was an okay hotel since I wasn't be in the room much anyway. I'd recommend it on that notion alone.

1.0 stars If you want service, quality, and location don't stay here! Visited: August 2000

Being my first trip to Nassau and cautiously reading past experiences from this hotel, I was cautious to say the least. Not wanting to believe the bad comments I had read, I booked for 6 days ignoring the warnings. Stupid me!

Although I had booked 6 months in advance and reconfirmed my arrival after their 3:00 p.m. check-in time, the room was still not ready. After traveling for 7 hours, my wife and I sat in the hotel lobby for another 1.5 hours until our room was ready, and then were given a room without a balcony and a door that did not lock.

The front desk staff needed a good kick in th rear, and really, in the US or Canadian market they would be in the unemployment lines, as they had the "I really don't care attitude" and they knew that they had you by the neck!

The lobby was the best of the hotel, clean and neat, but the rooms were plain, smelled moldy, and the ceiling, doors, rugs and walls badly needed repairs.

We left the hotel and flew back to Miami after just 3 nights of our 6 night stay.

We stayed at this resort and really enjoyed it, again, this being our second stay. For those afraid of high prices in the Caribbean, this was a welcome change.

At the hotel, Cafe Johnny Canoe, the meals were both reasonable and large. Next door at the Marriott the restaurant prices were moderate to high. And next door to that, the Radisson had a number of restaurants that had 4 course dinners for $21.50.

We found the staff at the Nassau Beach Hotel to be very accommodating, just don't complain aggressively, state your case and ask for an acceptable solution. This is not North America...hotels here have limited resources to deal with problems, a little patience rewards you well.

Our room was excellent...great view and good housekeeping.

We swam with the dolphins on Blue Lagoon Island and would do that again. The show at the Marriot - Enchanted Voyage - with a coupon is $34.00 and if you enjoy magic it is well worth seeing.

The only disappointment was Sbarro's in the hotel, the pizza and other food was much better two years ago, when they opened.

The beach was beautiful, shade if you want it, beach bar if you want it, food if you want it, and access to other facilities. Pack your SPF 15 and enjoy.

4.0 stars We'd definitely go back the Nassau Beach Hotel Visited: May 2000

We just got back from our vacation at the Bahamas where we stayed at the Nassau Beach Hotel. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was adjacent to all the major hotels, Marriott, Raddison, Breezes so there was so much to do.

The hotel was very pretty and the lobby was impressive with the marble floors and pretty wood work. We had a slight problem with our room the first night because there was no hot water. The front desk said they were working on it. When we called the next morning complaining of no hot water again they transfered me to a maintenance person who investigated the problem and quickly called me back to tell me he'd change our room and upgrade us to a better view. By 1:00pm we were in our new room. It was a beautiful room with a more traditional decor.

The front desk was indifferent, but as long as you didn't give them an attitude they were quite helpful. There were shops located inside the hotel which was very convenient. We found the Seaside Buffet at the Marriot, which I would recommend. The buses to downtown were only 75 cents each way and it was totally safe.

Most important was that the hotel was right on the most gorgeous beach!!! There were umbrellas, lounge chairs and towels for guests to use at no charge. Also there were 2 nice pools. The one pool seemed newer and was more tropical looking. It was great for children because it was shallow enough, 3 - 4'.

We took walks every day and viewed the other hotels, but they were too massive in size. I'm glad we stayed at the Nassau Beach Hotel. It was well worth the money. I'd definitely go back.

My boyfriend and I traveled to the Bahamas, it was absolutely amazing. From the moment we arrived, I was in love with the place. When we got to the hotel it was more beautiful than any of the pictures.

The rooms were very nice, and we had a good view. I highly recommend this place. The people were courteous and friendly, and the restaurants were good also. We mainly ate at Johnny Canoe's which was excellent.

There's so much I could go on and on about. Can't wait to return to Nassau.

My boyfriend and I stayed here. The rooms were nice and the people were pretty friendly. We loved Johnny Canoes. We ate there quite a bit. Stay away from the Beef restaurant downstairs. It was very bad service and expensive for such terrible service.

I don't recommend going during Spring Break! The young kids were up all night and day screaming. Impossible to get sleep. Thank goodness we only had to deal with that a couple of days.

It was very nice to be able to use the accommodations at the Marriott next door. There were about 3 pools all together. The taxi's seemed expensive.

Definitely try the booze cruise! They take you snorkeling and to a private beach and feed you lunch and of course, all the booze you can drink. It was excellent. And try the clubs. We went to The Zoo which was a lot of fun.

1.0 stars I will not return to this hotel again. Visited: June 1999

Well for my first time here, it was the worst experience I ever had. Even though we had our rooms reserved, when we got here our room wasn't ready. We had to wait three and half hours for a room.

The staff had bad additudes, and didn't want to help us. When we finally got into the room the water wasn't working, no towels, still had trash in it and then it took them almost a whole day to fix the water problem and bring the towels. We had to call them at least five times because they told us they would be there to see the problem.

I will not return to this hotel again. Hopefully, they will get there act together in the future and make it a better place.

We had fun once we got to travel around and site see. We were next to the Marriott, and the casino, which was fun.

The staff at this resort could not have been any more helpful or courteous. Everyone we encountered smiled and spoke friendly to us. The rooms and facilities were not as glamourous as the Marriott or the Radisson but certainly as good or better than most oceanfront motels.

The staff were very thorough and helpful throughout our stay, from the arrival at the airport to departure. We definitely recommend this facility and staff.

4.0 stars Best value on Cable Beach Visited: December 1969
Posted by druckens
After staying at the Radisson Cable Beach and Marriott Crystal Palace, Nassau Beach Hotel would be my first choice. We've stayed at Nassau Beach Hotel three times in five years and have never been disappointed. It's not as luxurious or glamorous as other Cable Beach hotels, but it's a charming property within walking distance of everything.

The service has always been good and the food even better. Cafe Johnny Canoe's restaurant is such a treat and very reasonably priced. Our rooms have always been clean & spacious, but some have shown their age.

The two pool areas are very nice and never crowded. The beach at Nassau Beach Hotel is nicer (and less crowded) than at other neighboring resorts.

3.0 stars Pleasantly surprised Visited: December 1969

The hotel was a nice surprise. It looked nicely kept and decorated. It had nice grounds, pools, views and rooms. We also couldn't open the terrace door (until we discovered the safety lock pin). Once open, we enjoyed the view and comfort of our balcony. We could see the variety of activities available conveniently located on our beach.

There was a scuba center, wave runners, para-sailing, wind-surfing and the "Booze and Cruise" boat stopped here, as well. You had the option of lounge chairs on the beach or by the pools. The front desk help were not very informative and were mostly indifferent. You must understand that we are very spoiled by service here in the U.S. but things tend to move more slowly in the Bahamas.

Most people were friendly, however they don't go out of their way to service you, especially if you give them an attitude. They have no problem treating you as poorly as you treat them, unlike service oriented personnel here in the states.

There were a variety of restaurants in, or adjacent to, the hotel (even Sbarro's). Avoid Rock 'n Roll Cafe. Johnny Canoe's Cafe was good. Public transportation was very convenient. Although we had a rental car, we would have been fine without one. We felt safe everywhere we went.

We recommend this hotel for those who are looking for a decent, reasonably priced place to stay. If you are looking to be catered to hand and foot, this is not the place for you.

4.0 stars This was the best vacation we had in a long time. Visited: December 1969

The hotel was beautiful, the people were nice, and now that they have teamed up with the Marriott next door, it's even better. If you go you have to go to Johnny Canoe, every Thursday to Sunday they have a band, it was great. The drinks were great too. The booze cruise, every day right on the beach from 12:00 to 4:00, was also a great time.

Just be careful of the wave runners, they try to get you with the money but if you speak to them they give you deals(they are not with the hotel, they are on the beach to rent).

Also, if you have never been to the Bahamas before, watch the taxi's out side the hotel. Do not go alone, and only take rides from the old men. The young people and women are up to no good, take it from us we learned our lesson.

As far as the hotel goes, we would go back. Request an oceanfront room, the view was breathtaking.

5.0 stars Most beautiful hotel on the island Visited: December 1969

Anyone who is considering going to Nassau and wants a quiet hotel but active surroundings should consider this place to stay. The landscaping was so elegant. Our bathroom was not that clean but our patio made up for it. We were on the first floor with a patio facing the pool. I only had to walk about five steps to get to the beach. The beach was nice too.

They served good breakfasts and anyone who stays here should definitely eat at Johnny Canoes. There is a bar and a grill. They are expensive, but wherever you go, food will be just as expensive.

If you are considering staying here, request a room with a patio.

Before going on our trip, we looked on this very site and read about other people's horrible experiences. By this time it was already too late, our vacation was paid in full.

The first two days were horrible - no towels, no alarm clock, no hot water, no iron, and it took forever to get anything. The room wasn't properly cleaned, our sliding glass wouldn't open and we found a mouse running around while later discovering the pillows were chewed up. We must have changed hotel rooms like 3 times, spent our first two days crying and wanting to leave the Bahamas.

The staff were very cooperative and eventually gave us a beautiful room in the ocean view section of the hotel. The rooms were 100% better, cleaner and besides, we didn't stay there much.

The "booze cruise" is a must; it's only $40.00 and you'll have the time of your life. The food that they served was delicious and the snorkeling was fun! The hotel includes free watersports but please keep in mind "non-motorized" which means that they have 3 floating devices and snorkeling equipment with many people waiting. Jet sking was expensive $60.00 half hour & $80.00 1 hour, parasailing was $50.00 and hairbraiding was $100.00 even if your hair was shoulder length!
