Description:
Out Island casual, friendly atmosphere abounds at Stella Maris Resort. Rising out of a 3,000-acre tropical estate at the north end of Long Island, this Bahamian resort was a vision more than 30 years ago of Peter Kuska and Joerg Friese and their families. The family island destination culminates three decades of work by these extended families of siblings, children, and in-laws who built and operate the marina, airport, dive operation, restaurant, residential community, and resort that accommodates up to 120 guests.
Private homes are built around the rolling hills overlooking the deep blue
Atlantic and turquoise Caribbean Sea. Much of the land is undeveloped; lots
are for sale all over the estate. The variety of air-conditioned
accommodations includes newly redecorated single hotel rooms at the top of a
hill near the saltwater pool, main office and restaurant facility. Cottages with kitchens
are scattered throughout the grounds close by, and spacious 3 and 4 bedroom
homes sit on the edge of the rolling Atlantic Ocean. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, a walk-in closet and a full bathroom. Just let them know how many are coming and what type of accommodations you prefer. Stella Maris resort will give you several options, including available private homes, some with pools and vehicles.
Stella Maris guests keep coming back to experience the carefree atmosphere
where the family and staff call you by name. The superb continental cuisine
in the restaurant makes meal time a highlight of each day. Breakfast and
lunch offers several selections cooked to order. Dinner is a treat each
evening with a choice of two entrees or an outdoor barbecue or other special
event planned for that evening. The adjacent bar features snacks, drinks,
and hosts the weekly rum punch party featuring tasty conch fritters.
Scenic tropical villages, deserted beaches, bicycling, tennis, sailing,
fishing, diving, three swimming pools, and historic land excursions await the
active traveler. Stella Maris offers lots of freebies, including shuttle service to nearby
beaches, daily snorkel trips, bicycle use, weekly cave parties with dinner, use
of several 12-foot sailboats, kayaks, and two weekly full-day boat excursions for
swimming, sightseeing and snorkeling. Tennis at two nearby courts costs $15 an
hour, and diving is available through the resort's marina, the Stella Maris
Marina & Yacht Club. Car rentals are available to explore the 100-mile "Long
Island" with its friendly residents and charming villages. Ask Delbert to
take you on an island tour to the lighthouse and Columbus monument at the
North end through Burnt Ground Village, or south to see the pink prison at
Simms, Deals Beach, and plantation ruins and historic churches on the way to
Deadmans Cay and Clarence Town.
Within the resort grounds you will find a fully self-contained community.
Bike to the store for provisions or a cool drink, visit the marina and watch
the visiting sailors or the daily diving and fishing excursions. Walk to
numerous nearby beaches for sunning and shelling or to the bank by the
airport to replenish your wallet or mail a postcard home in the adjacent post
office. A variety of weekly packages are available with diving and meals.
BahamasAir and Island Express provide flight connections from Miami, Ft.
Lauderdale, and Nassau. The resort staff will be happy to assist with flight
recommendations and reservations. Whatever your vacation dreams, Stella
Maris Resort will help make them come true.
