The Greenwood is a place where you can truly relax and feel at home. If you have visited old Florida and loved the simple things you will certainly love this place. If you want the Hilton, stay home. This is a secret that not many people know about.
How to get there is Lynx Air of Ft Lauderdale, or out of Nassau you have a choice of Bahamas Air and/or Cat Island Air. The roundtrip is about $120 out of Nassau. Oh, Bahamas Air is on their own time schedule so don't get into a hurry - you are on island time.
My family and my brother-in-law's family were a total of eight that stayed at the Inn. When we first got to the place, we were met by Ann, the Owner of the property. She handed us our keys to our rooms and replied I will see you when you are rested. Wow, no check-in I said to myself.
To give to a run down on the rooms, they were all king-size beds, showers. etc.
The water comes from deep wells on the property. Yes, the water is ok! You can drink it out of the tap.
The restaurant is next to the beach, you will want the meal plan. There are few places to eat on the island, and you need to let them know a day in advance.
They have an open bar, with soda, beer, juices, and spirits. Once you select a beverage of choice, you mark down what you chose on the honor system.
For entertainment, the beach, sea kyak, 14ft jon boat and motor, a hammock, hot tub, pool, pool table, music, and Dss all access TV.
If you are a diver or a want to be, they have two wonderful instructors from Germany (Alex & Andrea) - PADI Instructors. I took my Open Water Certification Course here at the resort. They were hands on and very attentive to my needs. If you are interested in diving, take all the classes before you go, I recommend the CDrom course. It was a experience of a lifetime, just a few things I saw, were many lobsters, grouper, marlin, etc. They can teach the entire course to you.
The Inn has a boat that they use for the diving, they will take you to a deserted beach for a picnic for a little R&R or snorkeling.
The beaches were just miles and miles of sand and just you!
We met people from all over the world at this little resort, they get a lot of Europeans that visit this Inn. |

Escape to a great beach, great food and personalized attention. Visited: February 2000 |

We visited Cat Island in February of 2000. My husband and I are divers and loved the Greenwood Inn. After a week long convention at Atlantis, we were more than willing to sacrifice the luxury and crowds of Nassau to relax on Cat Island.
We found very spartan accommodations, but the beach, food, diving, personalized service and friendly, family atmosphere was outstanding. We were disappointed that the rooms did not have ocean views.
I was seven months pregnant at the time of our visit, so I missed out on the diving, but my husband loved it. He had, at most, three other divers along for the trip and enjoyed the lighthearted bantering between the owner's son and the dive staff. I had a most memorable day when the dive boat dropped me off for a solitary three-hour stay on a beautiful, deserted bay.
The beach at Greenwood seems endless, and is beautiful. The personalized service we received is best exemplified by a day I commented that I had yet to find a piece of my favorite key lime pie during our Bahamas vacation. Much to my delight, that night we were served key lime pie. I found out later that a member of the staff had been sent out to comb the island for limes, collecting a couple at a time from several locations in order to fulfill my craving!
One night we went for a nice dinner at Fernandez Bay and returned to find out we had missed our favorite seafood at Greenwood. After commenting that lobster was our very favorite, we alone were served lobster the next night.
I can't say enough about Greenwood. If you are looking for a real escape and don't mind giving up an air-conditioned, king-sized bed and luxurious amenities—this is the place.
