This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was not conveniently located to anything.
The International Bazaar was three miles away - which we walked to. However, hardly any of the shops were open on both days we went. Stores close to the hotel were where the locals shop, and they had bars on the windows.
Beer at hotel was very expensive. Also, the hotel staff was not friendly, and housekeeping did not clean the room. The room was not clean when we arrived, and the towels looked dirty. When we asked for more towels, they accused us of already having towels in our room - and they said we had to wait until laundry day. We tried to get pool towels, and they were all out.
We were left one pack of coffee, and had to ask three times for more - and only got one more packet. We asked for more toilet paper, and they had to leave a note for housekeeping because they were out at the front desk.
Other guests at hotel seemed scary, and were mostly families. There were no younger people staying at hotel to hang out with - and no entertainment.
Air conditioning units in the rooms were very loud, and the beds were very uncomfortable. I woke up one day, and could have sworn I had slept on a side walk all night. We also received gnat/fleas/bed bug bites from staying here.
In addition, if we wanted to take a taxi to go somewhere, it was a $12 ride to go there ($24 total round trip).
The area was not pretty, either. There were condemned houses and other hotels that were shut down. The restaurant next door was also shut down. This area and hotel were not what we expected at all - and we couldn't wait to go home. |

I just got back from my vacation, and I was quite impressed by the Island Palm Resort.
In terms of what we paid for the accommodation, I found that what we received was well above par. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by staff. They were willing to give us an overview of the activities available on the island, as well as some tips for traveling around the island. This was helpful considering the hotel was located in the downtown area and not terribly close to the beaches.
The hotel offered a dance party (a small one) every Monday and Friday night, which we found to be very enjoyable.
We had trouble cashing our traveler's checks at the hotel, as they were often low on cash. However, the bank was just down the road, so this was not a huge problem.
The second downpoint was that locals were able to use the hotel bar as well as guests. This was slightly annoying for my friend and me, as we spent a lot of the week avoiding one particular local who would not get the hint!
But, all in all, it was a good week! I would recommend this hotel to others visiting Grand Bahama Island. |

It is worth the money to stay at the Sheraton. Visited: March 2005 |

Basically, when we arrived, (we were spring breakers), the hotel made everyone wait at least an hour to get into our rooms. We were supposed to get a room for 4, but instead they gave us two rooms for 2. (Which was actually better.) The location is terrible is you are looking to be right in the action. I was with all college kids, and we allllll agreed that we would have spent the extra money to be in the heart of the port. The port is about a 10 minute ride from this hotel. It was fairly clean, but the pool itself was pretty nasty, and cold. The bar food is good, and the soda's are only a dollar. Generally, though, we were always looking to get out of there to go hang out somewhere else, because really, it was not the place to be. |

You get what you pay for. Visited: March 2003 |

Upon arrival, the Island Palm staff had a problem with our reservation, and made us pay to make phone calls to our travel agent. The first room that we had was nice, but days later the security guard gave my room number to a stranger who claimed to know me, then watched as he came to my room and harassed me. The response was delayed, but they did move us to another room that had plumbing problems, and later to another room that was infested with bugs. All in all, I say the Island Palm is decent if all you plan to do is sleep there, but safety and cleanliness is not their strong suit. |

Island Palm is a great budget hotel that is very clean! Visited: March 2003 |

This was a great place to stay. My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive vacation, and our travel agent recommended this quaint place.
I did not expect much for the money we paid, but I never knew $1,000 would go so far for a five-day vacation with air, hotel and cruise for two people.
Although we were approached for timeshare sales, we just said "no" and were on our way. But when we have stayed in Orlando, Mexico, Las Vegas and a few other places I can't remember not being asked to attend a timeshare. We did not have time, but they offerred some great discounts and free tickets to go.
If you are looking to stay at the Ritz Carlton, this place is not for you. But if you want a pleasant hotel where you can party or relax, this place is it!
Thanks, Island Palms, for a memorable vacation. We will be back and we will tell everyone about what a great deal this was. |

High-pressure sales pitches and dirty rooms turned me off! Visited: July 2001 |

Upon arrival, we were bombarded by sales people trying to get us to tour the Island Seas Resort and to purchase excursion packages. When we informed them we were not interested, they persisted to the point of frustration. When we would ask them about clubs in the area or any other activities, they would only direct us to one of the package deals they had to offer.
When we finally made it to our room, it was filthy! I had to wipe off the bathroom counter to remove toothpaste and other dirt. The tub and floors were also disgusting. We finally asked for another room, which was a little better, but still not very clean. And the pool area was not kept up very well either.
The deposits for the remote control and beach towels (plus a $4 per towel charge) was annoying. The night staff was friendly enough, though, as they were probably not working on commission for sales.
The hotel is also in a terrible location. Expect to pay $4 per person each way to get anywhere unless you take the $1 city bus, which was fine most of the time.
I would never stay here again.

My wife and I had a good overall experience from this motel. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The low points of the stay were the loud music until 4am at the Hibiscus bar by the pool (This wasn't even where our room was!) and the pushiness of the staff to promote tours of their timeshare and excursions such as parasailing and booze cruises (of which you can find anywhere on the island). Aside from that, the staff was hospitable and accommodating. |

The Island Palms was a great place to stay. The staff was super-friendly and very helpful. For not being a beachfront property, it is in a great location. You are right downtown, so you are close to everything. You can always catch the public bus or taxi anywhere. The public bus is only 75 cents and you can ride a free shuttle to the Island Seas Resort were you can take advantage of their great beach.
I would recommend the Island Palms to anyone. However, if you are looking for a luxurious hotel with a lot of frills, this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for a nice, clean hotel with a great staff and a great atmosphere, Island Palms is for you. You will love the outdoor bar and grill by the pool!

I would highly recommend the Island Palm Resort and I would stay there again. The employees were very friendly and helpful when I asked a question. The motel was also very quiet, probably because it was downtown. The location of the motel is very convenient to walk to the International Bazaar or 1/2 block away to the public bus system. It was very nice to be able to sleep at night without all of the loud spring breakers. The rooms were also very clean and nice. It was small enough that we could get to know others staying there and we didn't have to wait long to get service. The phones were confusing, but I think that it is different whenever you are in a different country. Overall, it was a very comfortable atmosphere and a wonderful place to stay. |

We just spent one week at the resort and it was great.
Clean, quiet, well kept and the resort employees were
very helpful. Since it is right downtown, you're close
to everything; you can take the public bus for transportation or walk, it was quite safe.
Plenty of restaurants close by and within walking distance. Again, the staff were awesome. I would certainly come back again. |

We had a blast when we visited the Island Palm. Roleto (who rocks!) will do anything you need, including driving you to the beach or the store if he has time. His wife is a fantastic manicurist who will come to your room. The property is clean and in great shape with a beautiful pool, a pool table and a soda machine! Honestly folks, in the Bahamas, what more do you need? |

It was a good value for spring break. Visited: March 2000 |

Although I was one of the only spring breakers staying at this motel, I had fun. We were still close enough to the clubs and bars (a $5 cab ride). The pool was nice, but it was not as warm as I thought it would be. The people there are nice, but are not overly friendly. There was satellite TV, which was cool. The phones were weird--there were no 800 numbers, so using a calling card was difficult. Make sure you bring extra towels, since they only give you one. Bring shampoo--they don’t have that either. They had a small little souvenir shop that was cute and you could get your hair braided. The bar was very small, but for that price, it was a good value. |

This was an awsome property for the money. The people were friendly, the rooms were spotless and looked brand new, and it was close to the casino, international bazaar, safari club and many restaurants. The beach was right around the corner on the bus...no complaints here.

We just got back from Island Palm. It is not really fancy, but comfortable. It is near everything if you're not afraid to walk. The Casino is two miles away and the International Mall and the Straw Market are next door. If you don't like to walk, the bus is a block away for 75 cents.
The hotel is not not near the beach but they have a free shuttle that takes you there. The area is very clean and we never even saw a fly. This was a good time of year to go. The weather was perfect. It was a nice place and newly refurbished.

I spent a few days at this motel. The pool was not available for use. The facility was small and low budget. The staff were polite enough, but do not go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
I plan to visit the Bahamas again but I will not stay at this motel.

Island Palm is a nice clean resort. No, it does not have amenities galore like the big 5-star resorts on the island but it's a good experience nonetheless.
I highly recommend this resort to those on a budget or to those who don't need all the extra stuff many resorts make you pay for.
