Romora Bay Club, Harbour Island traveler review

Romora Bay is the most romantic place in the world! Visited: November 1999
Posted by laurahale
They have such beautiful tropical sunsets and sunrises.

I came here in 1982 with the most romantic man ever. We walked on the beach - which was really our own, as hardly anyone was on the beach.

We ate when the conch horn sounded. They had great food and drinks!

Dunmore Beach Club, Harbour Island traveler review

This was the worst place I have ever been. Visited: January 2008
Posted by mjwandfamily
I encountered many negatives here, including incorrect reservations, faulty plumbing, doors that did not close, and dirty and food spotted furniture.

In addition, the refrigeror fell out of the wall when the door was opened, the room had torn and defective window blinds, the air conditioner had problems (leaking water and missing parts), and the rooms were shabby and seedy, and the porch furniture was dirty.

I also encountered inconsiderate, impolite, and untrained front desk staff. We were once walking to town, and the assistant manager came along in his golf cart and refused to give us a lift. What a terrible example that sets for the staff (he was the manager's husband).

The manager seemed to have no management training. There seemed to be absolutely no proper supervision of the staff.

In addition, the over charges extreme. For example, manager's sister-in-law tried to charge us $30 an hour for babysitting. The manager then told us it was $10 an hour. Finally, they charged us $20 an hour.

Also, the bartender gave us no chips for drinks (he was the manager's brother-in-law).

Who would ever go to Dunmore Beach Club if they ever had been any where else? It was a terrible experience for us.

Tingum Village, Harbour Island traveler review

Think twice before going, it is not recommended. Visited: October 2007
Posted by disappointedguest
I stayed here this weekend (Oct 10-13), and it was the worst treatment ever. I have traveled all over the world and have never received such poor service.

I paid for a room and golf cart one month before arrival. Besides this, I was one of the first guests to checked in. However, I was unable to get a proper golf cart. On top of that, I didn't get what I paid for. In addition, I was ignored. I guess my money wasn't as good as some people who said they had only paid two weeks before the regatta.

I've visted this island five times, and have never been treated so badly. I was so upset with my experience that I was forced to leave a day earlier than my original check-out time.

I do not recommend this motel because of the simple fact of poor service from the management. The cook and the gardener were very helpful, though.

I recommend personal and professional development courses for the staff at Tignum Village because it is really needed!

Tingum Village, Harbour Island traveler review

No person should miss out on this secret gem! Visited: October 2006

Like everything that is good on Harbour Island, is quaint and the people friendly. From the moment we set foot in the bar, we saw Ma Ruby sitting with a smile on her face and chatting with others. We felt that somehow the other guests have established a special relationship with the owners; and we wondered if we would.

It didn't take long to see that every guest was special. The staff, their family and friends that dropped by were exceptional at making us feel welcome, yet provided us with the peace and privacy that we were able to achieve by visiting Harbour Island.

The nightlife was not second to none! The various bars and yacht clubs had people of all ages come together and dance. I was even fortunate enough to be invited to a party that was planned and carried out for another guest by J.J (grandson of Ma Ruby (owner of the hotel). And it was high-end!

I learned that J.J. is the best on Harbour Island if you want to plan a party, or wedding. He is recommended by the best on the island! My nephew is already looking into having his wedding on Harbour Island based on the pictures that I have!)

The food was superb! Mikey would make anything we wanted; the meal was fresh, and the surroundings so peaceful. You would want to linger at the table, except you know that just a few moments away lies one of the most beautiful beaches known to man!

Pink sand, warm water, and with the “busy” part of the beach being a lovely 15-minute walk away it was an ideal place for a romantic picnic, cuddle or just a chance to sunbathe without worrying about the effect that age and too many pasteries has had on your mid section. If you look close you can see cruise lines in the distance.

Harbour Island was magnificent, but add Tingum Village to your list and you won't ever want to leave. Or if you must, you will be making plans to return before the sea taxi has even dropped you off on Eluthra!

Thank you everyone at Tingum Village for your warmth, class, and JJ for showing me how to dance!

Coral Sands Hotel, Harbour Island traveler review

This was a lovely hotel. Visited: October 2006

My husband and I stayed at this hotel, and we were very pleasantly surprised by the charming atmosphere. Everything was "Ralph Laurenish" with sultry music playing in the lovely bar area, and heavy mahagony chairs and comfy cushions with soft lighting everywhere.

We had an oceanfront room in the building farthest from the restaurant. It had wood floors, a four-poster bed, and plenty of room for couch and chairs. The patio faced the ocean across the green grass area.

Vogue magazine was shooting here when we were here.

The food was just okay, but there were lots of wonderful restaurants to try. The pool was very pleasant, and the beach was wonderful.

We enjoyed the help, and I find it hard to believe the other couple had problems. This was definitely the best choice of hotels if you want oceanside - as we checked out the other more "run down" hotels. Enjoy!

I just returned from a marvelous stay at Runaway Hill Club on Harbour Island, in the Bahamas. What a pleasure!

Everything - from the extremely comfortable beds to the gorgeous view - was truly a paradise of a getaway. Special mention to all staff members, who were courteous, engaging and very attentive to all our needs.

We highly recommend this as a true, relaxing vacation destination!

Poor managemet ruins this great spot. Visited: April 2005
Posted by samfox6666
My wife and I have enjoyed coming here for years. Unfortunately, the new managemet team lead by Steve (whom we found to be obnoxious) spends too much time catering to the owner's desires versus serving (or even thinking) about the guests.

The new owners, Mark and Paul, are great. And they do seem to care. However, they would be better served if they had competent managemet.

It's hard to ruin this beach location, but they have found a way.

We arrived at North Eleuthera and were whisked over to Harbour Island, the "home of friendly people". We were so comfortable in Runaway Hill.

The linens were silky smooth and pressed, and the staff was happy and accommodating. Steve was an incredible host. The man was hilarious and so helpful to my family. Della Reese was a joy to meet and be around. Also, the food and service were both top notch.

Do not miss out on the gem of the island! We will be back every year.

This was the best kept secret of the Bahamas It was friendly, and offered a family-like atmosphere. It felt like comfort food.

It was unspoiled, and mentally and physcially therapeutic. We will always cherish the people here and their courteous, smiling faces.

My husband and I stayed at Coral Sands Hotel for our anniversary in March. We had a wonderful time! The hotel was elegant, yet casual and very relaxing.

The food was incredible, the rooms were spotless, the grounds were well maintained and the staff was very, very friendly.

We will return next year for our anniversary and plan on it for many years to come. I recommend Coral Sands without any hesitation.

Coral Sands Hotel, Harbour Island traveler review

We encountered terrible management, bad service and greasy food! Visited: March 2005
Posted by dometruth
My husband and I just came back from a week-long holiday in Harbour Island which we just loved!

The only and serious problem we found was with the hotel. At over $600 per night, we were expecting to be treated with a little more respect and professionalism. Instead, our comments on the guest book were ripped off by the manager on the day of our departure, leaving us with no right whatsoever to complain.

Some of the problems we encountered at this hotel were the following:

There seemed to be a total lack of care and management towards the guests. In a full week stay at this small - but luxury - hotel, we were not even asked once if everything was okay with our stay.

And, once our comments were ripped off from the guest book, I requested to see the manager who just turned around his back on us and left after about a two minute conversation. He also denied being the manager, despite the fact that his name appears clearly in the hotel website as General Manager!

Also, there was up to 45-minute systematic wait at the hotel restaurant before being served what we had ordered, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Having tried the restaurants at the other three equally expensive hotels in the island, we can confirm that the service was perfect, and it only took 15 minutes (on average) to get served. Also, the quality of the food was superior at equal the price.

Tingum Village, Harbour Island traveler review

We felt completely at home here. Visited: December 2004
Posted by mark_baum
We were in the Bahamas for two weeks and tried a number of places, staying at each a few days. Tingum Village, near the end of our mini-tour, was our favorite (among several special places). The family who ran it made us feel completely at home.

During our time in the Bahamas, we kept a very low profile as a gay couple, since it seemed clear that gay people weren't especially welcome in the Bahamas. But the people at Tingum Village had us figured out quickly and made it clear that we were welcome, too. That meant a lot to us.

The facilities at Tingum Village were charming, though not high-rent: I imagine there were more luxurious places to stay on Harbour Island. But I don't think there would anywhere else where you may be greeted with as much affection.

Each morning we enjoyed fresh baked bread with peach or guava jam at breakfast. Then we walked a few minutes to the beach each day where the waves were the perfect height for bodysurfing. On New Year's Eve, we participated in Tingum's playful (and delicious) dinner celebration.

To be honest, I expected Harbour Island to be kitschy, overdeveloped, and overrun with tourists. I was so pleased to find that this wasn't the case. Overall, we enjoyed the island very much -- but Tingum Village was what really made it special.

This was such a friendly, relaxing place - with good food. Visited: December 2004

We stayed here six years ago on our 50th anniversary and have always said it was the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. So we returned this year at the same time.

We were welcomed with open arms, treated like family and fed good Bahamian cooking until we could hold no more. Juanita-perpetual motion-Percentie took care of us, Ma Ruby gossiped with us, and Valerie discussed books with me. Michael carried our bags, cooked, served, and took good care of his people.

Several times we walked over the hill to the beautiful beach, which we had all to ourselves. In the mornings we walked or went by golf cart to watch the activity at the public dock, visit the library, and talk to Sydney Albury at the Tip Top Grocery. We also stopped in at Arthur's bakery for a key lime tart.

Since my father's family (Albury, Higgs, Johnson, Cash) lived on Harbour Island for a couple of hundred years, it is always like coming home for me. I call it and Tingum Village my island home.

Romora Bay Club, Harbour Island traveler review

We had a fabulous wedding weekend! Visited: June 2004
Posted by adriahat
I don't even know where to start! My family and I discovered Romora Bay almost a year ago, and from day one, they have been nothing but helpful!

We were planning a wedding and weren't sure exactly what hotel to have it at. We took a few trips during the year to Harbour Island and the service and hospitality we received at Romora Bay surpassed all of our other options! We knew immediately, this was the place!

Christine, the manager at Romora Bay, was such a delight to work with! She always kept in touch with us and updated us frequently on the wedding plans. She helped us and our guests with organizing events, dinners, and golf cart rentals. We never had a single worry with her running everything. She was excellent at her job and seemed to expect the same from her staff.

My dad just couldn't believe how amazing the staff was throughout the weekend-long event. He was so pleased by their efforts, that he gave every single staff member a bonus the day we left. We truly felt that every single staff member at Romora Bay bent over backwards to make that entire weekend such a special event. I could go on and on about the staff, but I must move on to the cuisine.

Fabrice Gomet is the most amazing chef! Every meal we had at Romora Bay was out of this world. Our wedding was two months ago and our guests still talk about the dinner! You must try his chocolate mousse! Every trip we've taken to Romora Bay, we've begged Fabrice to make the chocolate mousse. He laughs, but of course, whips up a batch that is even more fabulous than the time before!

When you leave Romora Bay, you feel like you are leaving family. We still keep in touch with Christine, Fabrice, their adorable little girl, and the wonderful staff at Romora Bay and we will continue to visit year after year. We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done! We will always have the fondest memories of Romora Bay!

For 20 years we have been returning to Harbour Island and the Romora Bay Club.

Lionel Rotcage and his staff offer delicious food, a casual and relaxing atmosphere and courteous service

One of our party of 8-10 people (who have been returning with us for over 20 years) fell and had to be taken to Nassau and back to North Carolina The efficient help and supervision of the Romora Bay staff enabled our friend to feel cared for and safe. We are all eternally grateful for their help

This is a treasured secret in the Bahamas. It has a personality all its own!

I stayed at Tingum Village and fell in love! Everyone who worked here, as well as all the other guests were great to be around, and they made my vacation better then I could have ever believed!

Ma Ruby's cheeseburgers were indeed one of the greatest meals I have ever had, and the property was great. The walk to the beach was nice, and once on the beach you can truly forget any care in the world.

Tingum Village and Harbour Island were truly great, and better yet, unlike so many places on the island, Tingum Village had character- from previous guests, family and friends.

It is not a place where the size of your wallet determines how you are treated, but instead, the smile on your face matters more to everyone associated with this hotel. Thank you for a great stay! I will be back for sure!
