Island Palm Resort, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

I couldn't wait to get back to the states! Visited: July 2008
Posted by wohdonkey
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was not conveniently located to anything.

The International Bazaar was three miles away - which we walked to. However, hardly any of the shops were open on both days we went. Stores close to the hotel were where the locals shop, and they had bars on the windows.

Beer at hotel was very expensive. Also, the hotel staff was not friendly, and housekeeping did not clean the room. The room was not clean when we arrived, and the towels looked dirty. When we asked for more towels, they accused us of already having towels in our room - and they said we had to wait until laundry day. We tried to get pool towels, and they were all out.

We were left one pack of coffee, and had to ask three times for more - and only got one more packet. We asked for more toilet paper, and they had to leave a note for housekeeping because they were out at the front desk.

Other guests at hotel seemed scary, and were mostly families. There were no younger people staying at hotel to hang out with - and no entertainment.

Air conditioning units in the rooms were very loud, and the beds were very uncomfortable. I woke up one day, and could have sworn I had slept on a side walk all night. We also received gnat/fleas/bed bug bites from staying here.

In addition, if we wanted to take a taxi to go somewhere, it was a $12 ride to go there ($24 total round trip).

The area was not pretty, either. There were condemned houses and other hotels that were shut down. The restaurant next door was also shut down. This area and hotel were not what we expected at all - and we couldn't wait to go home.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

It was a fantastic place at a fantastic price. Visited: December 2007
Posted by amasake
Researching this trip, I read that Viva Fortuna underwent serious renovations. But I had still been a little worried after reading all the bad reviews.

Fuggetaboutit! The place was beautiful. And, as of Dec 2007, they were only half finished the improvements.

They offered crazy rates. I paid $675 for four nights and five days - including air (during Christmas 2007).

Here, I ate like a pig, drank like a fish, and snorkeled in the incredible reef 30 yards off the beach. I hopped on a free bike, and zipped around the lovely suburban roads of inland Grand Bahama.

The staff was generally friendly, but there were some harmless sour pusses - as well as smiling, energetic cheerleaders (much more the latter than the former).

Now, this isn't the Four Seasons. The rooms were kind of sparse, but that's only practical in the islands. The food was basic and tasty enough, and there was always plenty. I didn't have trouble getting into the a la carte restaurants, but they were just okay.

I am going back this July. I had such a great time. I can't wait to sit on the beach, sip drinks while burgers and dogs sizzle on the grill behind me, while the beautiful, clear blue ocean gently laps the white sand at my feet.

Viva! Viva!

Sheraton at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

It was an average hotel for a Sheraton. Visited: January 2008
Posted by cougar
We stayed at the Sheraton from 12/27/07-1/5/08, and thought this hotel was a three-star hotel at best.

The hotel was quite old. The lobby looked very tired, and has not been updated for quite some time. The lobby's color was a bright pink decor, with faded out furniture of the same color. TVs in the lobby still had antennas on them, and they only got minimal channels. For a Sheraton Hotel, I would expect more.

This hotel brought me back to the 80s. The hallways to the rooms were painted bright "yellow", and the carpets were a rainbow of colors. Also, the rooms were very old looking - basic accommodations with a very small bathroom (you could barely get two people in it to brush your teeth!).

The grounds of the Sheraton were actually very nice. It was very spacious, and the pools were huge with waterfalls and a slide for kids. The beach was nice, also.

The best part of this stay was going next door to the Westin. I would recommend hanging out at the Westin pool as it was so much nicer. They had comfortable chaise lounge chairs and music (band) entertainment in the afternoon.

The location of the Sheraton and Westin hotels can't be beat. Right across the street were restaurants, shopping, bars, and entertainment.

Since the food was quite expensive at the resorts, we would walk over to the local restaurants for all our meals. They had Subway, coffee shops, ice cream, pizza, Greek, Chinese, Italian, etc. Every night, there was entertainment, so it made our stay very fun!

Freeport Resort And Club, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

Freeport Resort and Club offers a tranquil setting.
Posted by donnag
If you don't want to bothered with large crowds and hotel-like accommodations, this is the place.

It offers a nice pool, tennis courts, and is within walking distance to the International Bazaar and more. Hurricane damage in 2004 is still evident in areas around, like the golf course and casino.

They have very friendly staff, a nice BBQ area, and hot tubs. It's just a short distance from Port Lucaya (ten minutes), and transportation is provided to the grocery store and other places.

Also, the condos are well designed and comfortable.

Xanadu Beach Resort & Marina, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

This place is awful!
Posted by aeroag95
I have no idea where people who thought this place was nice actually stayed. The only thing nice were a beautiful beach and large rooms.

There were no activities other than diving. It took a cab to go eat, buy groceries, hit a casino, or shop. The cab driver was nice, though!

The RCI staff was extremely rude! The grill on the beach was covered with bees and bugs. The onsite restaurant was always out of food on the menu. The whole place looked like it was way past its prime when it might have been a nice resort.

I travel a lot, and I will never return here.

Dundee Bay Villas, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

This was a great vacation. Visited: January 2007
Posted by jamescab
Dundee Bay Villas really surprised me. The whole staff was very friendly, and helped my family and me with whatever we needed.

The views from the balcony of the ocean and beach were so breathtaking, and we loved how the white sandy beach was just by the resort.

Our room was a very good size, and featured a full kitchen and cable TV. Port Lucaya was not too far from the resort, and was a great destination for shopping and eating.

I have booked this resort for our next vacation and we can't wait until we go back.

Dundee Bay Villas, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

It is laid back here. Visited: March 2006
Posted by marietta
Dundee Bay was a small and family-oriented resort. The on-site pool was a bonus after a day of sightseeing, and less than five-minute walk brought us to a white sandy beach.

Our two-bed condo was well equipped with a kitchen. It was clean and very spacious, and overlooked the ocean. Our unit had a front and a back patio which we really enjoyed in the morning while having breakfast.

Port Lucaya (downtown Freeport) was 20 minutes by car from Dundee Bay. There was great shopping and restaurants in this area, as well as great nightlife, disco, bars and casinos.

I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a nice place to stay.

What a great spot! Visited: August 2007

Our stay at Dundee Bay Villas in Freeport Bahamas was more than we expected. This little piece of heaven tucked away 500 yards from a white sandy beach provided everything we were looking for in a relaxing and peaceful vacation.

The location and view were excellent. Our condo was well equipped with a kitchen and a TV. It made us feel like we were at home.

The on-site manager was very knowledgable and helpful. We rented a car and took advantage of the duty free and island shopping. We really enjoyed Port Lucaya (20 minutes by car) from Dundee Bay.

I would not hesitate in recommending Dundee Bay Villas, and I look forward to my next visit.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

It was amazing. Visited: May 2007

I am obsessed with this resort. I stayed here about six months ago with my friend and her family, and we loved it.

The staff was so incredibly nice and fun. There were always things to do. Every night, the staff would put on a play, and then a disco where everyone would go until about 2:00 in the morning.

It was one of the best vacations I have ever had.

Xanadu Beach Resort & Marina, Grand Bahama Island traveler review

We're ready for another great vacation here! Visited: March 2006
Posted by ragonvac
This was our (my boyfriend and I) first trip to this island. We came during Spring Break. We cruised over, stayed four nights, then came home.

The first day, there were a few problems with our room. However, the management addressed it immediately. There were no more rooms available, so they upgraded us to a suite (at no charge). It was remarkable!

We plan to return, and next time we will spend the extra cash to get the suite!

See you Spring Break 2008!

We stayed here March 2006 for spring break, and it was incredible. I found none of the negative reviews to be true. The rooms were just as nice as any hotel, and the location was within walking distance to the clubs and nightlife.

They also had a great beach with watersports.

This place was beautiful. The rooms were very clean and well decorated. The beach was outstanding, and we were within walking distance to all the clubs, casino, and restaurants.

What else could you want in a hotel and location?

We lucked into this place by accident, and we were so glad we did. Their sister property was sold out, and they moved us here. It was way better than the original hotel we booked. This place was a heck of an upgrade from the place we booked originally.

This hotel is the best kept secret on the island. It's not highly advertised, but it's the best. They stay booked out with word of mouth, and they don't even need to advertise anymore.

It's perfection.
