5.0 stars It was fantastic! Visited: April 2005
Posted by prlawry
We got married here in 2000, and it was fantastic.

We had seven adults and a baby. All the staff were friendly, helpful, and sorted out whatever we asked.

The rooms were as good as on the beach, and we basically had our own private beach for the week. Food and drinks were lovely. It was well worth the money. It was superb.

We said we'd all go back on our tenth anniversary, and we definitely will - only four years to go and we can't wait. This place is definitely top class!

2.0 stars Big Disappointment Visited: November 2003
Posted by baufiero
Overall, the accommodations are modest, but we were surprised that there was NO television in the room. The service is lousy, most staff members would go an entire day without smiling and would rarely return to the table to check up on you during meals. The bar itself is pathetic, most of the staff were unable to mix drinks properly. The beach front is miniscule and the pool and ocean front is off limits after 6:30 p.m. The Crystal Cove is a sister Hotel located up the road. If you can afford the extra cash, you will not be disappointed with your stay there.

4.0 stars We grew to love Coconut Creek. Visited: March 2003
Posted by aabaird
At first, we were somewhat dismayed. The rooms were average or below and the entrance to ours was in serious need of landscaping. Inside, the rooms were nothing great. But then we opened the curtains and the view from the balcony was fantastic. I truly believe the view at this hotel ranks among the best in the Caribbean.

The resort itself was very cozy and quaint. We loved all the nooks and crannies. We wanted something quiet and away from the Spring Breakers, and this was perfect.

I agree that the food grew tiresome. It was good, but after several days I felt I was eating the same thing over and over. The staff at the front desk also seemed annoyed at any and all questions.

The beach was small and once in the water, it was rocky. We live near the Atlantic, so we expected similarly wide, white beaches. But that is generally not to be found in Barbados. All that aside, we grew to love the view, the open-air restaurant, and the privacy of the beach.

I cannot say enough about the location and the view. By the time our vacation ended, we were quite sad to be leaving Coconut Creek. We had decided that after all, the room was only a place to sleep (and the beds were very comfortable) and we spent most of our time on our balcony, in the restaurant, or on the beach. We loved the fact that the room entrances were scattered throughout the resort.

We would definitely go back! In the end, the negatives faded away and we fell in love with Coconut Creek!

2.0 stars Intimate and quiet retreat, but in need of a facelift. Visited: February 2003
Posted by ted_matthews
The rave reviews in the brochures and on the Internet, not to mention the four-star rating of this idyllic little retreat thoroughly whet our appetites for our one-week stay at the Coconut Creek. We were told prior to our departure that a visit to the much-lauded 'The Cliff' restaurant was a must during our stay. To find that the hotel was actually next door to this restaurant filled us with delight!

We were welcomed warmly with a refreshing fruit punch at the sadly disappointing reception area, and once the formalities had been completed, we were led to our capacious 1st floor room. The accommodation was - to our minds - not four-star; it struggled to attain a three-star rating. This is after the hotel had been supposedly refurbished!

This is an expensive hotel for what it offers. The food is tasty and well presented, but the restaurant is cramped and at times, the birds, which foul the backs of the seats, can be a distraction. Our room was situated next to the main road, which was constantly busy with the local buses tooting their horns as they 'tout' for business. Some windows did not close properly, which exacerbated the road noise. To add to the gradually rising feelings of dismay, the air conditioning unit leaked copious amounts of water into our room! Once acclimatized, we managed without the air conditioning.

This was a quiet, intimate and fairly friendly hotel. The older members of staff were fully aware of the term 'customer service' and projected an air of warmth and helpfulness. We felt some younger members were at times quite surly and looked as though they couldn't wait for their shift to end.

The beaches were quite a disappointment (as is the pool), due to their size and the fact that during high tide, it is not advisable to remain sunbathing, for fear of being marooned!

The daily water taxi, which visits the other Elegant Hotel establishments is a welcomed facility. Availing yourself of this perk allows you to dine; use the water sports facilities; sample much superior stretches of beach/coastline; and use the gym at these other resorts.

In summary, it depends on what you want from your holiday: if you want a quiet, very small and reasonably friendly hotel, then this is for you. If you?re like me and expect more for your money in terms of quality, cleanliness and hospitality, then the other Elegant Hotel establishments should be considered.

4.0 stars A taste of home in the warmth of the Caribbean. Visited: November 2002
Posted by jancis
In November 2002, I visited Coconut Creek for the sixth time. It was the best ever!

I always enjoy my stays at this lovely little hotel. It is like coming home again - such a welcome and meeting my friends, both among the hotel staff and the guests who I meet time and time again. We all agree that this is the only place to stay on the island.

If you like the atmosphere of a quiet and intimate hotel, where the only distraction is the occasional monkey in the trees and the music of the tree frogs by night, accompanied gently by the subtle sounds of the music of Barbados, you will love this place.

The bird life by day is fantastic interrupted only by the superb meals. Thank you again for making November 2002 so very special. I look forward to seeing you all again in May 2003. It is such a welcome break after the cold, damp and dark of the English winter.

5.0 stars It was simply brilliant! Visited: June 2002
Posted by jacnnorrie
Having been married at the hotel 10 years ago, we were lucky enough to return here for our 10th anniversary. We were not disappointed.

It was like, well, it was stepping into Paradise. The staff, (some of whom still remembered us!) were excellent: friendly, courteous and sincere. The food was faultless. Each meal offered meat, fish or vegetarian, but every dish was different at each mealtime! It was quite an achievement. The display and presentation of the meals and buffets would put many a grander hotel to shame.

If you went out for the day, a packed lunch was available at no extra charge. A good selection of free watersports was also available and the beach was just as you see in the Caribbean brochures with white sand and a gentle green/blue sea lapping the shore. The only downside was having to come home!

4.0 stars I have found my corner of Paradise at last in Coconut Creek! Visited: May 2002

Last May 2002, was my fifth trip to Coconut Creek. It is like coming home, seeing my friends who are so much part of the place - always a welcome from everyone.

The living is easy, and so different from the hassles of the European hotels. Coconut Creek is a timeless place with wonderful service and excellent food. We go to Barbados to live at the Bajan pace of life - we love the birds, the sounds, the music, especially the little floor shows at the hotels.

Please let Coconut Creek live on - it would be sorely missed by so many of us.

3.0 stars We would not want stay anywhere else in Barbados! Visited: May 2002
Posted by marycrm
We discovered this hotel in the 80s. By chance, we picked the right one for our very first holiday.

The location could not be better, the hotel is small enough to get to know all the guests. The staff is delightful and could not be more friendly, and the core staff have been here for many years.

The two beaches are relatively small. Although you cannot go very long walks along them, they are private so you do not get hassle from beach vendors. The sea is mostly calm, but can alter a little depending on the time of year. This May there was a lot of sand.

The hotel has changed somewhat over the years. It is now all-inclusive and is really in need of a makeover. Yes, there were more luxurious hotels on Barbados ~ and this discussion always surfaced around the pool, but everyone agreed that this little hotel had that extra something that made the guests feel comfortable and want to return.

Over the years, the food has improved considerably and is now of a most acceptable standard, the presentation being excellent.

There was entertainment most nights, this year Hi Energy was voted the best. Unfortunately, they were only on for one night each week, and so we all travelled to the next hotel to see them again.

There was never a lack of sunbeds and in the pool there was a wide ledge which enabled you to socialize with the guests all around the edge. There was also plenty of shade and umbrellas.

Over the years, we have recommended many, many people to this hotel, and no one has been disappointed. Many have returned several times.

The only real criticism we have heard was the color of the exterior, it was so much more classy in white against the natural color of the wood.

To our dismay, we hear that the hotel may close, we are hoping that it will not, as 10 of us from the United Kingdom and the USA are hoping to return to the Creek in early December.

Please tell us, Elegant Hotels ~ should we look for somewhere else of a similar size?

3.0 stars We always receive a warm welcome. Visited: December 2001

There is always a warm welcome at Coconut Creek.

We were recommended to come here over 10 years ago, and we have returned many times since.

We love the two private beaches, and our room allows us to wake each morning with glorious views over the Caribbean Sea.

We agree that the hotel is in need of refurbishment, but we can forgo that for the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the lovely people we meet.

This hotel is just the right size with the pool, the bar and the beaches in close proximity. The food is good and well presented, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

We would like to stay here again and we hope that it will be available this December for yet another birthday party.

5.0 stars Extremely relaxing and friendly--great for a wedding/honeymoon Visited: June 2001
Posted by hels
We wanted somewhere small and intimate for a quiet wedding and honeymoon; Coconut Creek Hotel was perfect for this. The staff was very friendly—the Bajans are very laid back and relaxed. We had a room overlooking the sea. It was spacious and had everything you would want.

Joy Ann was our wedding coordinator that handled all the arrangements for us. She couldn't have made it easier. On our 'big day' we were made to feel very special. It was an idyllic setting and everything went perfectly. We couldn't have wished for more.

When we were there just over half the rooms were occupied. There was always plenty of room around the pool, on the beach and in the restaurant. It was quiet and if you're looking for somewhere lively then this is not for you. We did make use of the well-equipped gym and tennis courts at Crystal Cove (included as part of the Elegant Group Hotels). Reception arranged some tours of the island for us, which we thoroughly enjoyed – it is well worth exploring this great island. A bus ride into Bridgetown is an experience!

There was lots of choice on the menu and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the immaculately prepared and presented meals.

We would not hesitate in recommending Coconut Creek to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in the sun with good food and friendly service. We hope to return for an anniversary in the future.

3.0 stars Rustic and charming, but in need of a master chef. Visited: March 2001

This is a small and cozy resort, with beautiful gardens and fine ocean views. The place is aging, but the architecture is charming in a 1970's kind of way.

Access to the small beach is down 20 steps, and when you get there, be prepared to find a rock strewn sandy ocean floor. When the waves come in, rocks actually ricochet off of your ankles.

The food is tiring after a number of days, with buffets full of British favorites, which in many cases is unappealing to a refined palate. The occasional meal was fine, and of course the endless alcohol supply numbed the taste of the food.

The staff was quite pleasant, and some waiters really cared about the quality of their service. The front desk and concierge were extremely helpful in arranging tours and recommending restaurants. Don't miss the two best eating out opportunities in Barbados, both of which are adjacent to the resort.

Our holiday was pleasant, but there was little to do here, so bring a lot of books to read, and snack food to get relief from the steady diet of the buffet.

3.0 stars Nice hotel, but expensive for what it is. Visited: December 2000

Coconut Creek was very pretty, peaceful and relaxed. Overall, we were happy with our stay there. However, with the exception of one band, the entertainment was awful.

The efficiency and friendliness of the staff was variable. There were some wonderful people working here, but there were also a couple of unfriendly and unhelpful staff members. I know that on at least two occasions I failed to get messages that were left for me. We were also awakened at 6:30 and 8:30 am on two separate occasions by noisy cleaning machinery, which did not help relaxation and we consider unacceptable for a place that bills itself as an ideal place to unwind.

Good points included the secluded beach, the food, which was overall of a very high quality, the cleanliness and maintenance of the rooms and common areas, and the courtesy and friendliness of 90% of the staff.

4.0 stars Great for a peaceful, relaxing vacation. Visited: November 2000

We had a wonderful time at Coconut Creek. We were looking for a quiet place, not too many people (kids or otherwise), and a nice beach. I would not, however, recommend it to honeymooners looking for extreme luxury.

We got what we were looking for—this was definitely a quiet, relaxing place. The guests were mostly couples ranging in age from 30 to 60, and most were casual and friendly. The beach was not big. The bathing area was small and there were some sharp rocks at the shore, but it was still beautiful and private. I felt like it was all mine.

The food was very good and plentiful. The staff was mostly nice, but every once in awhile you felt like they didn't want you bothering them. I didn't let that bother me; they're fine once you express your needs. We loved the concierge, and his advice on the other elegant hotels and the island was very helpful.

All in all, we had a great time at Coconut Creek. It was not lavish and luxurious, but I would certainly go back for a relaxing vacation on the beach.

1.0 stars This hotel does not live up to its rave reviews Visited: November 2000

This hotel was advertised as a small, intimate hotel and part of the "Elegant Hotels" group. What we found when we arrived for 2 nights of our honeymoon were pillow cases, rugs, shower curtains and anything else that can be moved in the room had the hotel name labeled in marker.

The food was mediocre at best.

If you're looking for a "Spring Break" type of hotel with all the alcohol you can drink, this is the place for you. If you're looking for quiet, elegant, luxury - stay at another hotel.

2.0 stars Nothing Spectacular Visited: November 2000
Posted by scot_mags
Hotel was fair at best. Service at the hotel was poor. Food was mediocre at best. Trying to arrange activities was impossible. Beaches, at the hotel, were extremely small, especially at high tide they simply didn't exist. The bar closed at 11 pm. No nightlife here to speak of.

When eating, birds would constantly fly into your plate and eat food off your plate. If they had some cats maybe this would solve the problem.

Rooms were fair. Small but fair. Found one cockroach and one chameleon in the room as well.

If you want to completely isolate yourself from society then this is the place for you.

4.0 stars Lovely place, wonderful setting, very friendly service Visited: October 2000

My wife and I had a wonderful, albeit short, holiday over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend this year. The staff were polite and courteous, and the other guests were friendly, as well. We had some time to visit the other hotels in the Elegant Group but we liked the "cozy" atmosphere of Coconut Creek the best. We have recommended this hotel to anyone and everyone we have talked to; in fact, I think my parents might visit next winter.

We also met the black birds mentioned in other reviews, but didn't find them particularly disagreeable. One suggestion is to spend the extra money to get an oceanview room, so that if the nightly entertainment does not suit your tastes, you can get away from the sounds before 11:30 p.m.

We got married in Barbados and had a lovely honeymoon at Coconut Creek. We enjoyed the freedom of being able to use the other Elegant hotels. The hotel had a super friendly staff.

4.0 stars Quiet hotel ideal for couples (no kids under 4) Visited: May 2000
Posted by slarkins
My wife and I had our honeymoon at Coconut Creek and it was excellent. We had stayed there before and enjoyed ourselves. The people who stay at this hotel do like enjoying themselves and we had a great time in the evenings with the other guests (and the local rum of course)!

Some staff members were singularly unhelpful whilst others were consistently great like Carlos the Concierge. The food was rather repetitive and after two weeks you don't want to ever see another flying fish! There were complaints about the service whilst I was there, as some staff members were rather surly.

The rooms are apparently not as good as a few other properties, which were much more modern. I found the rooms to be very average and very disappointing for the price of the hotel.

All in all, the Coconut Creek is a very nice place to unwind and enjoy nice company. Elegant Hotels, however, needs to attend to a few things to make the experience completely stress-free.

Me and my wife stayed here to celebrate our honeymoon for 2 weeks. We found the staff very courteous, the food excellent and the accommodation spacious and well maintained. I vote this hotel because it's small; you get to know everyone here very quickly and this adds to your stay in the Caribbean. We hope to go back soon.
