I just returned from this hotel. It was the best stay we ever had. Ask for Ryan at the beach bar. He was a real good dude. He might bring you donuts.
Everyone here was great. Also, the rooms were nice and cozy. I can't wait to go back. |

We stayed at the Savannah and I was a bit worried. But, it was great.
We were close enough to the Gap and things that area had to offer, and close enough to the west coast with all the beautiful beaches and outstanding restaurants. Their restaurant wasn't great. But we had so many others on the island to choose from that were wonderful.
The hotel was clean, and we had a pool right outside our patio. The staff was friendly. The beach was small and quiet - but relaxing. It was just a nice, low-key place to stay. I would return. |

We just returned and had a fabulous time. We liked the Savannah, but didn't love it.
The room was gorgeous- especially the outside patio! And the grounds were maintained beautifully!
Our one complaint was that there was not much in walking distance, and the food at the Boucan was not great. So, we left the resort for the days, returned in the afternoon for a dip (in the next beach over) and enjoyed reading time on our patio. Then went back out for dinner.
The staff was fine- the concierge helped us every day with reservations and information. The service was slow- sometimes our room wasn't cleaned until 6:00 pm, and we could never find the beach towels- but I think this is island life in general.
One thing that was sub-par was the continental breakfast. It was free- but there were no eggs or sausage, which was with all the other food. And if we helped ourselves to some, we would get charged out the wazoo- this seemed to me ridiculous given the room rates.
Yes, the beach was not great, but the next ones over were wonderful and had superb beach chairs!
One general tip about Barbados the hotel staff won't tell you is to use the bus - it's so easy and dirt cheap- a small fraction of the taxi fares the hotels steer you to.
The bottom line is: this is not a four-star resort, but a good three-star with lots of personality. |

STAY AWAY!!! Visited: December 2003 |

If you are looking for the type of vacation on which you:
1) need to wake up at 7am in order to get a lounge chair.
2) need to call the front desk several times a day to get towels in your room.
3) be treated by an unbelievable amount of sour-pusses.
If these are what you are lloking for, this place is for you.
I am in complete agreement with the person from new jersey that gave this a one star as well. I just wish there was a choice for zero stars.
Aside from all of that, the place looked beautiful. If looks are all that matters to you; Have a great time! |

I just returned from a six-day stay at The Savannah and we had a lousy time! The staff was very nasty to us. It seemed like they didn't want to be bothered with us.
The housekeeping staff - as opposed to the other bad review that this place received, with us all six days required five or six calls a day to the front desk to get towels. The excuse given to us was that it was a holiday week and they were not prepared. When they got towels in, they only allocated one towel per person per day. I think with what we paid, I should be able to get as many towels as I needed.
also, our shower was broken for two days before they had someone come and fix it.
Another beautiful thing was loooking forward to awakening at 7:00 am in order to secure a lounge chair. God forbid I slept until 8:00 am, I was out of luck for the day. Here is some advice to the Savannah, spend the $20 per chair and buy some extra ones for the busy season.
Trust me folks, I have been to hundreds of hotels in my life - both for vacation as well as business, and this was the worst experience I have ever had! |

This place was not a four-star resort! Visited: November 2003 |

I just returned from a seven-day stay at The Savannah and what a disappointment!
First of all, in my opinion, this place was not a four-star resort by any means, and if you are a beach lover, I do not recommend staying here because the beach was very undesirable!
Let's start with the staff - the majority of the staff seemed cold and unfriendly. They acted as if I was a bother should I ask for something. The service we received at the beach bar was horrendous and they served the worst drinks I have ever had.
The housekeeping staff we encountered was also horrible - out of my seven day stay, there were four days that I had to call the front desk because they forgot to give us clean towels, and each time we got one washcloth for two people.
The food we had was below average. The food at the Boucan restaurant was unappetizing - including the dessert! The food at the Beach Bar was average.
The one positive thing that I can say was that the room was absolutely beautiful. I was very impressed by the decor. The only downfall about the room was that there were caterpillars crawling everywhere and that was a complete turn off. I was running around killing them all week.
The beach was a complete let-down. It was very small and unkept - rough waters and too much coral. Because it was a preserved beach because of the turtles nesting, nothing can be done to better the beachfront. We had to go to the resort next door and use their beach each day.
Bottom line - I will never stay at The Savannah again. If you are looking to vacation in Barbados, I suggest that you stay at one of the four-star resorts on the West Coast!

My husband and I chose the Savannah in Barbados for our honeymoon. We were not disappointed one bit! The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything.
Being off season, it was very quiet, but it was perfect for the two of us as we were honeymooning. Though quiet, the staff certainly didn't seem saddened by that. They were very upbeat, friendly and helpful the entire time!
The pools were great! And as one of the other reviewers noted, one pool twisted and turned throughout the resort and we ended up with a second floor room which had steps leading down to the pool - it was like our own private pool - great for late night dips!
Their beach was small and a little rocky, but it was very quaint and quiet making it quite wonderful. It was like having our own private beach, too! Better swimming conditions (i.e. no rocks) were only a five-minute walk in either direction, so we ended up spending a lot of time there instead of the larger beaches with tons of people about.
The views of the pool and the ocean were breathtaking from the restaurant, both during the day and after dark.
We really appreciated the beautiful rooms, the friendly staff (especially the front desk staff who helped to co-ordinate our off-site adventures!) and the peacefulness and beauty of their resort. We couldn't have asked for more. And we liked being so close to Bridgetown, we went there on a couple of trips.
Though their restaurant - Boucan - had very tasty food, we did venture out to many other restaurants. There were so many to try in Barbados. Our number one favorite was Carambola on the West Coast. It was a 25-minute drive (we went by cab), but definitely worth it! The views were breathtaking and we could watch them feed the sting rays right from our dinner table!
Definitely two thumbs up for this resort!
Oh - and another must-try - the Island Adventure tours! What a great way to see the rest of the island - the rugged beauty of the East side as well as the unique blow holes of the North. It was definitely well worth the money! |

I got into Barbados for two days and I did not have any reservations. So, I took a cab and went to Coconut Court Resort and was told there were no rooms available. They referred me to the Savannah.
Upon arrival I was not impressed! Though I was told it was a four-star hotel, I was not impressed with the lobby, either. I wondered what the room would look like. Boy, was I blown away.
For starters, the gentleman at front desk (I think his name was Andrey) was really nice and helpful. The doorman escorted me to my room. He was a real darling. He showed me around the room and told me where everything was.
The room was breathtaking. I had no complaints. There was a balcony. I enjoyed the view and fell asleep reading. It was quite relaxing. I wish I could have stayed longer.
The food was great, and the view from the restaurant at night was romantic. I recommend any and everyone to come here. They provided good service and had great staff.
This was my third trip to Barbados. But on my fourth trip, trust me, I am staying at the Savannah. |

I attended a wedding on the island. Most of the other guests stayed at other hotels. I decided to stay at the Savannah. I was completely satisfied.
I was not impressed by the exterior. But later, I found out that it has to keep its historical look. It was protected by the Historical Society. The lobby/front desk was also deceiving. However, upon getting my key, Alfred, the friendly doorman, showed me to my room. He explained in detail everything I needed to know about the room.
The room was extremely comfortable; spacious and I had a view overlooking the pool, with its lush tropical plants. It was especially beautiful at night. The French doors opened to the balcony, which I spent many evenings and mornings reading.
The facility was generally quiet. I could hear the beach water from my room. The beach was small, but quaint. It was not the activity beach side I would have expected. It was a small cove that accommodated my early morning sunrise reading and quiet time.
Book another spa for spa services. The food at the restaurant was excellent! I thought I had to go into town to get full five-star dining service. I was wrong. Eat at the restaurant! I would definitely stay here again. Enjoy! |

Intimate and fantastic! Visited: November 2002 |

Boy, did we luck into this one! We originally had reservations for the Almond Beach Club, but at the last minute we were informed that they were over-booked and that they were transferring us to the Savannah instead. (We later found that Almond had done this to more than 30 other people during our stay, including a couple who had purchased a wedding package!)
We were disappointed until we saw the hotel and experienced the warmth of the Savannah staff.
The Savannah had only about 100 rooms, and while the beach was very small there were larger beaches within an easy walk. This hotel epitomized the Barbadian lifestyle - the people who served us were as prompt, friendly and helpful as those we encountered throughout the island.
The Savannah was in Hastings, a short cab ride from Bridgetown, so duty-free shopping was only minutes away.
The Boucan Restaurant was probably Barbados' best-kept secret - the menu was varied, the flavor was exquisite, and the portions were plentiful.
The beach bar offered a relaxing atmosphere for enjoying a rum punch and pondering life while taking in the beauty of the Caribbean. There was a barbeque on Tuesday nights with a great variety of foods and an entertaining floor show.
The entire staff, from the front desk to the housekeepers, made us feel like their only goal was to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
If you choose the Savannah, make sure you stop by the gift shop and say "good day" to the proprietor, Jackie. Not only does she run the shop, she's also one of the more talented artists on the island.
The Savannah is truly a hidden treasure. I recommend anyone considering a trip to Barbados (or, for that matter, anywhere in the West Indies) to check it out.
And don't forget to order a rum punch!

A pleasant stay for business or pleasure Visited: August 2002 |

The Savannah is located in Hasting, about 5 minutes from Bridgetown, and only 15 minutes from Grantley Adams Airport. The Asta Beach Hotel is the Savannah's neighbor.
The main structure dates back to the 1700s, but most of the rooms are in a newer, modern structure which stair-steps down to the ocean. This gives the hotel a very beautiful, romantic appearance, further enhanced at night. The pool, which is very interesting, divides the two hotel wings on each side.
We had a room on the ground floor, and the pool was within a few steps of our back door. The pool’s curving design gives all of the rooms that back to the pool, a small private swimming area. The rooms are attractive and comfortable and come well-equipped for business or pleasure. All have air conditioning, ceiling fans and shutters.
Large beach towels are provided at the poolside bar. The grounds are very well kept with tropical flowers and landscaping. The staff is extremely helpful and pleasant. The Savannah's beach is the only real drawback to the hotel. It is small and contains an abundance of rocks and coral. There are no water sports available on this beach, either. However, there is a very beautiful beach for swimming located only a 5-minute walk from the Savannah's beach.
None of Barbados beaches are private and can be used by anyone. Additionally, the Savannah will shuttle you free of charge to the very pleasant public Accra beach free and allow guests use of the facilities at their sister hotel, The Blue Horizon’s.
The Savannah has two restaurants with a spectacular view of the grounds and beach from the main dining area. The Savannah’s evening restaurant is very highly rated, but in the more expensive price range. At least 3 other very good restaurants that are moderately priced (Brown Sugar, Lunch Break and the 39 Steps) are within easy walking distance for the hotel.
There is also a very well-equipped fitness center, business center and gift shop located on the hotel grounds. We had a great stay in Barbados and would recommend the Savannah. |

Conveniently located near Bridgetown, this hotel has good high-speed Internet facilities and a helpful staff. It’s above average for the money and will get my business in the future. |
