3.0 stars Apart from the kitchen extract, everything was wonderful. Visited: February 2006

I stayed here for the first time in room 310 (in 2006). The room was tired, but had a lived-in feel. I also had a noisy kitchen extract fan (try another room if allocated 310).

The views were marvellous. The service was sublime. Also, swimming with turtles (and for no extra) was mindblowing.

Finally, check out Martin on the beach...he's one cool dude.

I have visited Barbados many times and always heard of the Sandridge Beach Hotel. However, this was my first stay there.

The hotel has gone through a major makeover and added numerous facilities. A kids' club, sports room, air conditioned disco lounge, a fabulous new reception lobby, laundromat, and a cozy courtyard are just a few new additions. There was also a new chef on staff, and excellent food!

I loved every minute of my stay here.

The New Sandridge was really beautiful! We have stayed here for the past seven years and have always enjoyed our stay. The hotel has gone all-inclusive and added many new features and facilities. Also, the staff was really great. We loved it!

We were looking for somewhere where we could relax and kick back. Sandridge gave us just that. We also met many guests who have been coming for over 15 years, and they made us feel right at home.

The management and staff were friendly and helpful to us at all times. We swam and played with sea turtles 200 yards off shore, which was a memorable experience.

In addition, the restaurant, which overlooked the beach and ocean, was more than what we expected. The barman, Sacks, was one of the friendliest people we have ever met in the world. I certainly plan to return to this hotel.

I have now clocked up 17 visits to the Sandridge since 1991 and am returning again May 2004.

Yes, the hotel is of a simple style - but who cares when you look at the location. I think I only spend an average of three hours a day in my room anyway!

The same bar and restaurant staff have been looking after me for the last 13 years ensuring I have a wonderful time every time.

I was here in November 2003 and was surprised to note that one couple from Birmingham received poor treatment from the staff, a real shame as I know this can cast a cloud over your entire holiday. Certainly not the norm - perhaps a misunderstanding occured along the way.

If you are looking for a simple, friendly hotel on the stunning west coast then this must be for you.

3.0 stars It was affordable, but not too friendly. Visited: November 2003

The most annoying thing about the Sandridge Hotel was that it wouldn't take much effort to make it into a great hotel.

Okay, the rooms could do with some TLC - the bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens were in need of decorating and updating, but the location and price made up for that.

Although, when we were here, it rained and we found that the outside paths were dangerously slippery, due to the fact that they were in need of rigourous cleaning. It was much like the rest of the hotel, really.

But be warned, we did not receive a warm Caribbean welcome from this hotel. The bar staff and restaurant staff were unfriendly to the point of being rude to us. Maybe that was because the service charge was included in the price of everything. Even the drinks we got ourselves from the bar. So, they had no incentive to be nice to us, although I naively thought that it wouldn't be too much effort to smile or say the odd thank you. I was wrong.

On the bright side, the location meant that we could easily visit many other excellent, friendly restaurants, which were cheaper with 100 percent better food. So, our recommendation is take the cheap room, but eat out. Highly recommended is Mangos, St. Peters, and Half Moon Fort for the Fish-fry and for a special night out, try The Cliff - pricy but fantastic.

We are going back to the Sandridge Hotel in St. Peters again for the fourth time. We really enjoy our stay here, if you like the quiet life.

The staff really looks after you. They have a manager's night every Tuesday where guests can drink all the rum they can keep down.

There are also some good places to eat - like Mullins. We will be back in May 2004.

1.0 stars This is the hotel that is dirty and very unfriendly Visited: August 2003

Be prepared!!!

We arrived at the sandridge abd We were taken up a flight of stairs to a main corridor then though a small back passage of the corridor and up two more flights of dark dingy stairs. We reach a simple plain whit internal door and were told that this was our room. The door had no room number and was not even a proper hotel door. When we were shown into the room the only way to describe my feeling was by pure disgust. The room was very compact with a small fridge, rickety old fitted wardrobe and a small bathroom in one corner. The whole room was dirty and I was completely appalled. The light switches had to be flick two to three times to activate the bulb; the bathroom was also dirty and only had a light over the mirror rather than a proper room light. The floor tiles and the WC pan were chipped and broken and the bath was dirty with the tread worn away and numerous brown stains in it.
The Pool was dirty with dead crabs in the bottom. The description in the brochure was grossly inaccurate. The description said that there were two restaurants. They did not say that one was just next to the pool bar with approximately twenty tables and resembling a snake bar rather than a restaurant. They also did not state that the other restaurant was a pub for use not only by the hotel users but also by locals. This restaurant served food from the other restaurant at a lower price and was shut on the days that the buffet was on. The Buffet replaced all other menus and so become compulsory with a charge of 50 Barbados dollars and no other food was offered. The other menus were also very poor with the choice of about five or six things and the bar could not be described as clean and hygienic.

This is not a holiday for the faint harted.

If you want to just stay in a cheap bed sit this is the place for you.

fussy eaters will not be pleased neither will the cleanest of people

if you have booked this hotel try to change it

if not make sure you take some cleaning stuff with you!!!!! Dont expect much from this hotel and that will reduce dissapointment

4.0 stars A nice hotel in a great location. Visited: June 2003

The Sandridge Beach Hotel was not a posh hotel, but its rooms were clean and it had a nice atmoshpere. Definitely go for the apartment or studio, as you get a terrace or balcony.

The pool was fine and it had a fantastic stretch of beach right next to it, which we could laze around on all day. The gardens were pleasant, and we often saw Green Monkeys playing around. And amazingly for monkeys, they didn't really cause any hassle.

We were on a room-only basis and really only had breakfast in the hotel. This was always very good and ranged from fried flying fish to pancakes or srambled eggs. Guests could also get bar snacks during the day.

On evenings, we would go into Speightstown (a 15-minute walk) where Mango's (an excellent restaurant) was located. But our recommendation would have to be to catch the bus to the Fish Pot, about two miles on the other side of Speightstown. It was in a fantastic location with a terrace right by the sea and the prices were not too bad, either.

Also, check out Doris', which was just up the road, for great value Caribbean food; and Brenda's, just over the road from the hotel, for great fried chicken at bargain prices.

Swimming was great with a reef just in front of the hotel providing good snorkeling. People seemed to travel from all over the island to swim with turtles just off shore from the hotel. So, if you're a good swimmer, this is a must. We also used to see a small turtle on the reef just in front of the hotel. The hotel had snorkle gear, which was free, although guests must pay a small deposit.

We had no problem from the beach hawkers. They were always pleasant and usually good fun to talk to. In fact, we got some fun souvenirs, a nice massage and good deals watersports from them.

The location was quiet, so don't come here for parties every night. But, if you want a pleasant hotel in a great location, with a range of restaurants within walking distance or bus trip, we would highly recommend Sandridge Beach Hotel. And don't go all-inclusive, because you will miss out on so much, and it will not save you money.

3.0 stars Just lay back and relax! Visited: March 2003

We booked a late internet cheapy and all we can say is - whoopee!

The hotel room was basic, but we only wanted to shower, change and sleep in it. It was cleaned every day and the cleaning staff was entertainment in their own right. They liked to have a laugh the same as us all.

The hotel food - well we just had no complaints at all. They offered a full al a carte menu and it was great. The bar and restaurant staff were really friendly, especially Margaret (say "hi" from me if you go).

All in all, if you need to relax, be pampered a little and meet some really friendly people, then go to the Sandridge Beach hotel.

Also, make sure you swim out 20 or 30 feet from shore and you can snorkel with hawksbill turtles - what a buzz! See you all there maybe, because I will return!

We did get an amazingly cheap deal, so we could hardly complain. The room was basic - but clean and satisfactory, the food was nothing spectacular but filling enough and not too expensive.

The location was idyllic - set between Speightstown and Holetown with easy car hire and therefore easy access. The beach was a little rocky but this did not hinder hours of relaxing, swimming and snorkeling with reefs and exotic fish on view, even a few hawksbill turtles.

The excursions were easy to organize as the staff was helpful. A trip to Mullins restaurant was heaven. We had one of the most relaxing holidays possible.

We stayed in a one bedroom room consisting of a large living room and a full kitchen. The main bedroom was upstairs with a large bed and an ensuite bathroom.

The exterior of the hotel was rather motel-like, but had a pleasant pool overlooking the sea. The beach next to the hotel wasn't the best, but you need only walk for a few minutes to find beautiful beaches, notably Mullins - a real find.

We loved the position of the hotel, and were pleased that Hotetown was only a 15-minute bus ride away, but near to Speightstown and much less developed than the West Coast. There were a couple of local restuarants serving good fish and chicken dishes, Mango's in Speightstown or Mullins in Mullins for a top meal.

The staff was great and we will definitely return.

3.0 stars Pretty ordinary Visited: July 2002

We have just come back from a few weeks in the Caribbean and our first stop was the Sandridge Beach Hotel in Barbados. My wife and I thought that the Sandridge was rather ordinary. We had one of the hotel rooms and looking back I think we would have been better off paying a bit more and getting one of the rooms with a small kitchen.

We had breakfast at the hotel on the first day, but it was disappointing so we didn't go back. The beach at the Sandridge is also quite small but a short walk down the coast is a beach called Mullins which is the nicest beach that we came across in our week on the island.

A great thing about staying at the Sandridge is that you're really close to an absolutely super restaurant on Mullins beach (also called Mullins) which is an absolute must-do for anyone going to Barbados - superb dinners, though expensive, and fabulous lunches which were much more reasonable (but still more expensive than the other restaurants around there).

One really nice thing about the hotel is its setting - its really close to Speightstown (only a ten minute walk), which is lovely and full of character (unlike Holetown further down the West Coast that is a charmless tourist-trap). It also faces west so you get to watch the sunsets from the pool area.

3.0 stars A totally relaxing atmosphere! Visited: November 2001

If you are looking for a wonderfully relaxing beach holiday, this is the place to go. I traveled with my husband and two young children (ages 4 and 2).

The beach immediately in front of the hotel was not great, but just a short walk along the beautiful, white sand was a spectacular stretch, beside two much photographed leaning palm trees. We could have this whole beach for ourselves. True, there were no beach bars and the sand hadn't been swept, but the location more than compensated for this.

The hotel was fairly quiet, entertainment was provided a couple of times a week. It was nice sipping cocktails in the moonlight listening to the lapping of the waves.
We hired a car for three days, the gospel brunch at The Crane Beach Hotel was well worth a visit on a Sunday Morning.

The hotel room was comfortable, with lots of space, and was very clean. However, the air conditioning was very noisy and our patio was very basic. We had to upgrade to this room as we were told the standard rooms would not accommodate our party. We only used the upstairs bedroom to sleep anyway, as the downstairs room wasn't air conditioned. Strong insect repellant is a must, or you will be covered in bites in the morning!

If you like lots to do, you will be bored here. If however, you just want to totally relax, the place is perfect.

3.0 stars Not a bad holiday! but not the best Visited: February 2001

I've been to many Caribbean islands. Barbados is a lovely island but we were a little disappointed with the hotel. The pool was great, cleaned daily and the staff was lovely! The room was ok but not worth the money and the beach was a nightmare! We were unable to swim due to all the sharp rocks we had to get over before getting into the water. We rented a car and traveled to other beaches!

4.0 stars Excellent, Clean, Lovely Staff, Great Rooms. Visited: November 2000
Posted by ssuggitt
My first trip to Barbados was in November of 1999. We stayed at Sandridge Beach Hotel. Our room was lovely and we had a nice balcony and all of the kitchen facilities that we needed.

The pool was cleaned daily and there was a 24 -hour security guard. He would stop locals coming up from the beach and hassling you to buy their wares.

The cleaners were on top form. The bar staff was really friendly. Information about Barbados was at hand. Evening entertainment was not every night, but just right and good. The food and drink at the hotel was not cheap, but it never is at hotels.

Once a week you have happy hour and that serves free rum punch for all. They have barbeques as well.

We liked it so much that we went again in November of 2000. When we have enough money after buying a house, we will be straight back here!
