Major Disappointment Visited: March 2004 |

My husband and I did extensive research on where to stay in the carribean and what a major disappointment!! We were expecting clear water, white powdery beaches and first class accomodations. The ride to the hotel left us thinking, this is supposed to be one of the islands that is less poverty stricken??? YIKES!! We had confidence on the ride that we would eventually hit a "beautiful island environment" and it never happened. Our driver turned the corner and said here we are and I almost cried. It was at the edge of a run down area and the gate was locked to get in. The pool area looked like it hadn't been painted or touched since they opened and the "white couches" were dirty. The only redeeming quality was the bed and how friendly the service was. This was no tropical island get away and I've seen clearer water on the gulf coast of Florida. We were expecting a "ritz-carlton" four-seasons experience and it was far from it. The beach was tiny and the sand was hardly white and powdery. If first class and clear water is what you are looking for...this is not it!!! Overall, there was no plastic in sight but what was in sight was no better. A true let down. |

An excellent accommodation! Visited: June 2003 |

We went to Barbados for our honeymoon. The House provided us with first class accommodations--from the chauffeured limousine from the airport, to the personal concierge/ambassadors tending to our every need.
The place was modern and elegant, but not splashy. Not a plastic chair in sight! It was furnished in all dark wood and white couches, with evening torches and chunky candles floating in locally made pottery.
There were also lounge chairs and free books, nightly hors d oeuvres and live entertainment. We also enjoyed the ice cream brought to us on a silver tray while relaxing on the beach and the morning buffet with local favorite food such as pumpkin fritters.
It was a very mellow place and we loved it! |

It was blissfully relaxing at The House. Visited: April 2003 |

The House is reckoned by many Bajans connected with the tourist industry to be the best hotel on Barbados. To truly understand why, you need to go and stay there.
The mood is chilled out, the surroundings are modern and designer, but best of all, the service is attentive while being ultra-relaxed and most of all natural. When they say nothing is too much trouble - they really mean it.
When you arrive, you are greeted by your 'Ambassadors' elegantly dressed head to toe in white. They introduce you to their mini-paradise known as the House. You are then left to wind down and find your own pace. Your Ambassador is always in attendance to suggest and book restaurants, arrange taxis, iron an outfit or just bring you cool towels and drinks on the beach.
The House doesn't have a golf course, or even much of an exercise room. There are watersports available on the beach, including jet skis, however most guests at the House are too horizontal to do much more than sunbathe, cool off in the pool and sip rum punches.
The 30-minute complimentary 'jet lag' massage was one of the best massages I have ever had.
Returning to reality comes as quite a shock after being so insulated during your stay. I don't remember being so completely relaxed - ever. I will definitely be going back. |

Don't be fooled by the website! Visited: March 2003 |

My wife and I decided upon The House for our honeymoon. We had been searching all over the internet and were looking for a small, boutique hotel that we could spend some time and relax. We came across the website for The House and immediately believed that this was the place for us.
It (the website) played tranquil music and showed a slideshow beautiful images of the hotel and its surroundings. While I have to admit, the beach was beautiful, the accommodations were less than stellar.
In person, The House looked like a dressed up Motel 6 or a Best Western, at best. We thought the rooms were horrible. We had a suite, which really consisted of two separate small rooms with an adjoining door. It had a cheap-looking slider out to a small deck with an obstructed view of the ocean and wall unit air conditioners!
The linens on the beds were the only saving grace of this entire place!
While on the beach, the service was very slow. And although it was their "high season", the hotel seemed very understaffed. Not to mention the constant barrage of "salesman" peddling all sorts of local crafts... it became very annoying. "No, I do not want to rent your jet ski!" became my daily mantra.
The staff was very nice however, and when we brought our displeasure to management, the reduced our bill ($800 a night) by 50%. We were supposed to stay here for ten days but only stayed for four as we moved on to Sandy Lane, which was incredible and worth the money!

We had our wedding here in September and did not have a single regret. Everyting went so smoothly and beautifully. Kathy, who was our ambassador, did a great job in making our wedding look like a fairy tale.
The hotel looked like a mansion where guests were treated as if they were royalty. The service was impeccable, the food was great, and the rooms were luxurious.
The resort was definitely not huge, it was private and secluded, yet it was not far from the city's entertainment. |

We received 8-star service Visited: July 2002 |

We had just come from St. Lucia, where the hotel couldn't match the surroundings...and at The House, it was just the reverse. Think Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton amenities and service - but more updated, modern, stylistic and friendly.
The service ambassador concept worked unbelievably well, thanks to Camille. She was a step ahead of us at every turn and even set up some amazing experiences in and around the hotel.
Breakfasts were custom-made whenever we were ready; cabs and excursions were hired and paid; our room was specially prepared; and yet we never felt over-served or directed. The water taxi serving all the Elegant Hotels was a nice touch too, if only so that you could see how "worth it" The House was vs. the other, bigger resorts.
Though we've stayed at amazing places over the world, The House was a find that we haven't stopped raving about..our time here was by far the highlight of our Barbados leg and maybe our whole honeymoon.

From start to finish, our stay at The House was just amazing.
Instead of standing in the long line at customs, The House had someone waiting for us and took us out of the customs line and had us processed immediately. This probably saved us at least an 1 1/2 hours. From there, the ambassadors at the hotel were always there to make sure we were happy by providing us Evian water bottles or spray during the afternoon, making dinner reservations or anything we wanted to make our stay more enjoyable.
To sum things up, the service was just great, everyone was very pleasant. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we were having a good time. We will definitely come back! |

This relatively new operation absolutely excelled when it came to service. The staff was not only expert, but gracious and friendly.
The space was done in a very distinctive, comfortable, and modern style which really set it apart from the other hotels in Barbados.
It also sat on a picture perfect beach.

I loved every minute of it.
The Ambassadors were great. The service was coming from all angles - it was fantastic. The Evian sprays and the beach service were wonderful.
Also, the House was very beautiful. We would definitely return. |
