This is a great location, but not much has changed. Visited: January 2006 |

My husband and I returned yesterday from our seven-day stay at the Divi Heritage. What a great location! It was within walking distance of excellent restaurants and shopping, and to the Holetown area.
There was also excellent snorkeling right off the hotel's beach area. There were coral reefs and fish five feet from the water's edge, as well as a purposefully sunken barge with large schools of fish. We were a five-minute walk away from swimming at the world famous Sandy Lane beach, too.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. Our studio with a kitchen opened its doors right onto the beach.
Being independent travelers, we appreciated the desk staff's friendliness and helpfulness in making dinner reservations for us and securing a rental car and taxis when needed.
The island of Barbados was super friendly and polite. We did not meet a single rude person during our stay. We felt comfortable everywhere on the island. The island was also very clean, and most people had jobs and live in their own homes.
We did read an earlier review, and it seems that not much has changed since that guest's stay. The hotel clearly needs some financial investment into its facilities. For example, my husband did not receive messages from family who called on his birthday. Our room's jacuzzi was "out of order." Also, our room and the neighboring room had toilet overflow issues which took at least a half a day to fix.
In addition, the hotel has built a very ugly cement sea wall to keep the beach erosion away from the rooms. The wall is too tall for guests to look over while seated in their beach chair. Many of the chairs were broken and dirty, there were no cushions, and the beach area was not cleaned daily.
There was also inadequate snorkeling equipment at the hotel, and the adjoining Almond Beach Hotel did not allow the use of its watersports equipment (unless you purchased the $100 daily all-inclusive package).
These items did not bother us too much, but I cannot say that we would choose to return - other than for the location and friendly staff. |

We found a lovely island, but a lousy hotel. Visited: April 2003 |

My mother and I stayed at the Divi Heritage in St. James, Barbados for eight nights. The amount of space in the oceanfront villa was wonderful, and the view was awesome. Overall, the staff was helpful but, there were a few disappointing features at the hotel.
The villa was supposed to have a working oversized private Jacuzzi tub available for use. The Jacuzzi tub was in the villa, but was sectioned off from us. We were informed that new Jacuzzi tubs were to be installed in the future. Before we arrived at the Divi Heritage, we were told that we would have a working Jacuzzi tub. This influenced our hotel choice since my mother has problems with her shoulder.
The other problem we encountered was the lack of orientation. At the end of our trip we learned that we were supposed to have an orientation session that would tell us about the island, places to go and the manager's cocktail party (which we missed).
Another disappointing occurrence at the Divi Heritage was the lack of voice mail or a message service. We would receive calls while we were out of the villa, and the front desk would not take messages. They would simply tell the person calling that we were not in our room and hang up.
These problems and occurrences made our vacation very stressful as we were not receiving messages and we felt cheated out of the luxurious stay that the website promised.
We already informed the Divi Heritage in Barbados that we were not pleased with our experience there and filled out a survey. When we returned, we wrote to the management and were offered nothing besides "new Jacuzzis would be installed in the future."
The island and beach were both so beautiful (same beach as Sandy Lane Resort)...if only Divi Heritage would get their act together. |
