3.0 stars We had just a lovely holiday and met some great staff. Visited: September 2005

I have just returned from a holiday at Kings Beach Hotel (September 2005). I read a lot of negative reviews before I went, and was a bit worried. However, we had a lovely holiday. And I have traveled a fair bit and gone on several all-inclusive holidays.

The hotel was small, but perfectly formed. The food was the best that I have had on any all-inclusive holiday. We enjoyed the added benefit of table service most nights rather than buffet.

The staff was friendly, and nothing was too much bother for them. The beach was lovely, and all-in all, Barbados was such a lovely place to go.

In addition, the rooms were clean and functional. They weren't the most glamorous rooms, but everything else made up for it. We felt that we had a personalized service as the hotel was small and quiet.

There were plenty of sunloungers for the beach and by the pool, and lots of beach towels provided by the reception. Also, the bar staff was so friendly and made the best cocktails.

I would not hesitiate to go back, as the positives outweighed the very small negatives.

2.0 stars We encountered a non-existent beach and poor food. Visited: March 2005

We arrived with hopeful expectations only to find that the beach was washed away in Dec 2004 and was not at all suitable for young kids (one of our main reasons for booking). Consequently, the kids club was confined to a windowless and unappealing room.

The food was poor, repetitive and on a low budget according to the hotel owner (who seemed to sit by the pool in the Village development and get priority service over his guests!).

The travel agent did not advise us of the beach problem at the point of sale. The hotel did not match the three stars given to it.

Oh, and the place was up for sale so, all in all, this was not worth a rave review!

5.0 stars It was fantastic! Visited: January 2005

My husband and I were married in the gardens of this hotel on January 14th, 2005. We stayed for a total of 14 days in one of the villas adjacent to the hotel. The only thing I could find fault with was that the food was so wonderful I returned to England a stone in weight heavier!

The food was repetitive, yes. However, there was such a wide choice available we never actually were forced to have the same meal twice. I did though, as I could not find fault with the food choices and went for my favorites every time. My husband did the same.

The villa was lovely, clean and spacious. We did meet the owner of the hotel who was staying in a villa a few yards away from us. My husband and I felt his attitude was as if he owned the place - later we discovered he did! We were introduced to him a few days before our wedding, and he appeared a very friendly, pleasant man.

The staff was fantastic, all very attentive and helpful. Each and every one of them, including the wedding coordinator, bent over backwards to make our wedding a good one - and it was. We had a most fantastic day - the best wedding day ever!

All facilities were good. We had a large swimming pool outside our door which was quiet due to the fact it was within the villa area. We did take advantage of the pool, and enjoyed it very much. The main swimming pool was also good - and was very popular.

They had live music several times a week, which was excellent. I felt sorry for the artists though, as not many people stopped and listened and clapped for these people. I love music, and my husband and I sat and enjoyed the music and the friendly characters singing and playing. We clapped when they finished and showed our appreciation - a pity more guests did not do the same, though.

The beach was fantastic. The hotel supplied beach furniture - which was readily available. There was a barbecue on the beach every Wednesday, which was good. My husband and I enjoyed the snorkeling very much, and equipment was available at the hotel.

All the staff worked very hard, especially the restaurant staff and the bar people. The atmosphere was always nice here due to the friendly, welcoming staff. My husband and I would recommend the hotel without shadow of a doubt.

My husband and I cannot wait to return to wonderful Barbados and we are already planning a return trip for our first wedding anniversary.

Nothing could ever compare to Barbados for my husband and me ... the beaches, the sun and the sunsets ... and, of course, for us it is the place where we were married. We cannot wait to return - many times we hope!
