Having visited all-inclusives across the Caribbean, the four of us had a sense of what to expect. Nothing, except the amazing island itself, met our expectations.
The food was miserable; the grounds smelled; the staff was unhappy - if not rude; the rooms were small and dingy; the entertainment was sparse and lackluster; and the sharks, I mean the the vendors on the beach, were a constant hassle.
For the money we spent, we expected much, much more. Honestly, it felt as though there was a management and money problem with this resort. They seemed very lean in every direction. |

I encountered rude staff and bad service here. Also, the rooms were tired looking. I felt the service manager, Jammy, should be called "smarmy". |

I was disappointed to find the beach quite lacking. It was dirty with all kinds of branches and leaves. It looked like the hotel did not do enough to maintain it.
Also, the towel system was a pain in the neck as it was not close to the beach. As well, there was a large industrial plant in your view - and that was not pleasant to see.
Service was off and on; some servers were great, other were slow and obviously not well trained.
The rooms were quite average - even though I reserved a top of the line suite.
On a positive note, the food was quite good. Although my two-year-old did not enjoy the different flavors.
I would not return here again. |

We returned to the Almond Beach Village in January 2007 having been there in May 2004. We plan to go again.
It is a fantastic place with lots of choice of food, fantastic surroundings and great staff. The staff are so helpful they really cannot do enough for you.
The only bad point were some of the guests. We went when a large wedding was going on, and the guests were very loud and swore constantly (which I didn't like especially for my four-year-old son to hear). But I guess however good the hotel is, it cannot be blamed for the type of clientelle!
We cannot wait to return, I have traveled the world and been to some fantastic hotels and this is near the top of my list. |

It was the first time to Barbados for us, and we had so much fun.
We met some very friendly people from the island, learned a good golf-shot from Jeff, and learned a lot of the island from Ernest Watson. Thanks a lot.
The island was beautiful. The hotel was great, including service from the staff. We would come back in the future.

Our experience was a total dissapointment. We encountered poor quality rooms, closed restaurants, poor service, and cheap drinks. We were also harassed by sellers on the beach selling boat trips, trinkets, and other "questionable" merchandise.
This was an expensive holiday that I want to forget. It was only the people we met from the UK and outside the complex that salvaged our holiday. We will never stay here again. |

Check-in was very relaxed. We were greeted with fruit punch and told to sit down. However, after sitting for an hour waiting, we were told that our room was not ready. But we were given another room in the meantime to rest.
Our room was definitely worth the wait. It was a double bedroom which was two rooms put together. It overlooked the pool. The room was immaculate and all in good order. There was some renovation nearby, but we did not here any noise.
The ten pools were fantastic, our favorite was the horizon pool.
The food in all the restaurants was to an excellent standard, the food was superb and the staff was fantastic.
All the staff at the resort were brilliant, helpful, friendly and out going. The staff definitely made this holiday special.
We got married at the resort, and everything was organized so well. The way we were treated made it so special. We would definitely recommend it.
I can't emphasize enough how good the staff was. Nothing was too much hassle, and anything we wanted to do or wanted to eat was organized for us, all we had to do was ask.
The hotel manual in the room was self explanatory and definitely worth a read as the hotel had strict rules regarding dress code and the way guests should conduct themselves.
The bars were very good, and the drinks, including the cocktails, were definitely worth it.
Overall, it was a lovely hotel, in beautiful grounds with a very nice beach and first class facilities. We would recommend it, and are already booking to go back next year. |

I thought this place wasn't even worth a full star! Visited: October 2005 |

They changed my room request without any notification, then it took them two hours to get things right and check me into my "beachfront" room, not beach view!
Also, I found that the room was dirty and run down. There were roaches in the room and in my bed, too. Also in the bed was a dirty sock from I presume the people before us.
The food was good - considering the condition of the place. There was a huge lack of information as to dinner reservations and dress code, though. I also loved that they had the wait staff tell you that you could have lobster tail for dinner, but you must reserve it through guest services first. The lobster was good until you receive the bill at the end of your stay.
I thought everything here was a guessing game. We had to call guest services for every little thing - locks for the room safe, where to get towels, etc.
I didn't think it was fair that they were having a wedding here so they closed the pool, pool bar and beach area early. My favorite part of the trip was the access to the cappuccino machine 24 hours.
Most of the workers here were rude to us, and where was the top shelf liquor? I didn't think this place was worth the four and a half hours I spent on the plane to get here!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Almond Beach and we were absolutely thrilled with our choice. We spent only a week here and it was too short!
We received the honeymoon package and thoroughly enjoyed the special events it included. My personal favorite was the massage! It was so relaxing!
We were very impressed with the food and service. I believe both of us put on a few pounds from all the delicious food! The staff was always very friendly and very professional. Our room was just right for the two of us, and our beach front view was absolutely gorgeous. The maid-service was great as well!
The beach wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it was still beautiful just because it was the Caribbean with clear, blue water! Oh, and all the awesome pools were an excellent relaxation activity. We spent a lot of time at the pools! Our favorite were the 16 and over pools.
All and all, we had a wonderful time and definitely recommend the resort to anyone. We are hoping to return some day! |

I totally agree with review of the New Jersey family who went in December of 2004. Pretty much everything they said - I totally agree with.
I was disappointed in the resort. We (as a family) had a great time and loved the beach and all the watersports that were here. The local vendors on the beach were very friendly and helpful.
The staff over the weekend was rude - particularly the women. However, the men were fine and helpful.
The grounds needed upkeep. Our room in the St. Bernards village was awful. My daughter took a shower, and the knob from the hot came off in her hand. Maintenence, however, was great. The bathrooms were small, and we had mold on the shower curtain and dirty handprints on the back of our door. Other than that, the view of the ocean from our balcony was great. We got the good with the bad.
The food was excellent, but the service at the sit down restaurants, Horizons, and Enids was like molasses. I'm a patient person - especially on vacation. But to be told to sit at a table with no silverware and the tablecloth was dirty (at breakfast), well that's unacceptable. Good luck getting a second cup of tea or coffee. Enid's service was better than Horizon's.
The shuffle board was fine, except three out of four wands were broken, so we had to share the one good wand for the four of us.
We enjoyed the hammocks around the beach and island.
The entertainment at Horizon's every night was fantastic, and the singers had great voices.
The best pools were the "over 16" pools at the North End of the resort. They were kept up better, and all the outdoor entertainment was there and not at the other end of the resort.
The Reefs restaurant, with an awesome location right on the beach and great tiki torches, was closed for renovations. That was a disappointment, because we would have been able to sit out there and watch the sunset. The most we could do here was have a drink because the tables were still set up.
The beverage center was great when you have kids. They could help themselves.
We had a good time, but I wouldn't go back - not for what I paid. If you go, get a room near the North Pools, that end seemed nicer. There's a reason there was only one picture of the resort on the website. |

I was there with a companion for 3 nights during the middle of March. The food wasn't bad and the entertainment was better than I had expected. Landscaping was beautiful but the beach was very drab. I had never been to a caribbean beach that didn't have palm trees. Even New Jersey plants them on some of it's beaches during the summer. Outsiders must be allowed on the beach by law so I think they have to re-look at that particular detail. These individuals will try to con tourists into buying their junk. One filthy character tried to sell me some prints and was trying to pass them off as original artwork. His appearance unnerved my companion so we had to cut short our beach time. Transportation to and from the airport was included in our package. The van that took us to the airport on our departure date was a cramped, antique rust bucket. Overall, I would have to say that I would not repeat this trip. Stick to the name chains. |

We returned from the Almond Beach Village yesterday and felt compelled to write a review after seeing some negative comments on this website. We were in a party of four adults and, even though the resort catered extremely well for families, we felt there were enough adult-only areas (including a pool and a restaurant) to avoid noisy children if we wanted to.
The pools were always clean - including the surrounding areas, and the beach was beautiful and never too busy despite the size of the resort.
Our rooms were clean and of sufficient size (the weather was too gorgeous to stay inside too long), and the choice of food was large. The staff was always willing to help, and there were plenty of people around if we had a problem.
There was entertainment in the day - as well as at night, and the nightclub meant that we could continue enjoying our all-inclusive treatment until 2:00 a.m.
We all agreed we would visit the ABV again, and met many others who said the same. This was a paradise island complemented by a wonderful resort. |

We have just returned from a ten-night stay at the ABV and cannot understand the bad reviews.
Our standard room was spacious and clean, the air conditioning worked wonderfully, and there were even cartoons on the TV first thing in the morning to keep my two-year-old amused while we woke up!
No one we met on the resort had a bad word to say about it and many were repeat guests. The pools were clean and well kept, if not exactly huge. The gardens and all public areas were clean and well maintained around the clock. The food was great, with lots of choice. And it was very fresh - just get your reservations in.
We drank the water straight from the bathroom taps and didn't have any problems with tummy bugs. There were lots of friendly (feathered) birds around and yes, a few cats, but they didn't cause any problems.
Kids Club and staff were fantastic. Evening entertainment wasn't always all that good. The staff was polite, some more friendly than others, but that's human nature!
We would definitely go back. We loved Barbados and the Almond Beach Village. Don't expect absolutely everything to be exactly the same as at home and you won't be disappointed. But you're in the Caribbean, enjoy the difference! |

We spent a week over the holidays at this resort. In general, we had a good time.
The food was very good, and a parlor with pizza, hamburgers, ice cream and salads was a plus for always hungry (and wet from the beach) children.
The beach itself was of decent size, but not your typical TV commercial-like paradise beach. There were plenty of stones on the sand and in the water (take swimming shoes), and the color of the sand was far from that dreamed about white-golden powder.
Service was adequate to the islands in general. One shouldn't expect the same service in the Caribbean as you receive in Asia or even Florida. Some locals were nice, but most did their jobs without going beyond the point of duties.
Entertainment was excellent, and we had a very good New Year's Eve party.
The major complaint we had was about accommodations. Most of the beachfront and ocean view rooms were not renovated, and bathrooms were the size of the shower stalls. Also, the furniture was rather old and damaged. Apparently, some rooms have already been renovated, so make sure to ask for the room in updated section of the resort.
In general, we had a good time because of the perfect weather, food and entertainment. But we would never go back here, and would not really recommend this place, unless you can get a great bargain. We definitely paid top dollar for something, which should be rather have been discounted. |

I found it to be shocking, filthy and unhygenic. Beware. Visited: December 2004 |

We experienced sickness, diarrhea, and salmonella.
We found the rooms to be shabby and filthy. Food, ice cream, and spillages were left outside rooms and in corridors for days at a time, resulting in ants and all sorts of other things. There was also an infestation of bedbugs in our room.
In addition, we had broken lights, a broken TV, many other things in our room that didn't work.
We thought the food was basically junk food. Everthing was packed with sugar (especially the drinks).
The staff seemed sullen and rude, and we found the atmosphere to be that of decay and dilapidation.
On their website they described how every room had been lavishly refurbished with sumptuous fabrics, mahogany furniture, mini bars, marble bathrooms, etc. We found none of that to be true.
They also told us there was a 24-hour on-call doctor at this resort. We found there to be no doctor on this resort. If you get ill (we all did) you have to call your own taxi ($100) and make your own way (40 minutes) to the doctor.
If you are after a sophisticated Caribbean holiday, steer clear of Almond Beach Village. |

We had discovered Almond Beach Village on this website while researching our 2002 honeymoon. We stayed 13 days, and did not want to leave.
We then returned in October 2003 with some friends because we raved about it so much. And even though the rain was plentiful during that trip, we enjoyed ourselves very much.
Our third trip was just recently in November/December 2004 and we have to say that Almond Beach Village is by far our favorite place - and we have traveled throughout the Caribbean. We are going back in March 2005 and cannot wait.
The food is very good, the staff is absolutely wonderful and very professional. The resort is well kept and very pretty. The rooms are much nicer than they were in 2002 and are very clean - we have never had a "filthy" room as some people have written. The staff is probably the main reason we keep going back. We love the Almond Beach Village! |

I'm a 12-year-old boy, and I went to Barbados in 2004 and I loved it. I got off the plane thinking the accommodation wasn't good, but then we got a cab over to the Almond Beach Village. When we arrived, they helped us out of the cab and gave us cold towels and fruit punch.
During the night, we had lovely meals, and I had a beautiful burger.
Anyone who would give bad comments must not have had any idea of what was going on. I mean, I saw mongoose, turtles, and barracudas! |

My sister and I graduated from college a few years ago and were badly in need of "spring break". We chose ABV and loved every minute of it.
From the moment we checked in when they offered us rum punch in the open air reception, we knew we were in for a good time. The room was fine, no complaints there, but we really were not in it - except to sleep.
The food was good, the beach was great, and the watersports were really fun. Captain Rumpy Pumpy (who was not part of the resort, but sold watersports on the beach at ABV) was a real piece of work. He kept things lively on the beach.
Overall, we had a wonderful spring break. Our trip to Barbados was not like the spring breaks of our college days - it was much better. |
