Angler Apartments is quiet, simple, fantastic and friendly! Visited: March 2003 |

The Angler is nestled less than a minute from a beautiful secluded beach and less than five minutes from a busier, more expansive stretch of beach. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The accommodations are clean, simple, and quiet. It is perfect for the budget traveler. |

A nice, no-frills place to stay, that is easy on the budget. Visited: February 2003 |

This place was very nice, but mostly because of my hosts, Roger and Chandra. They were great and took care of my every need. It was affordable, comfortable, peaceful, and secure.
The hotel was not on the beach, and was not really a hotel, but really more an apartment-type place to stay. The rooms had no A/C and at first, I thought this would be a problem. But other than in the middle of the day, that was not a problem. In fact, I turned the fan off each evening because I got cold. The fact that it was not on the beach was not a problem either, because the beach was very close and easy to get to.
I had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and Chandra fixed both for me. She did great! The food was good and prepared to my liking in every way.
This facility did not have the frills of higher priced places, but those places did not have Roger and Chandra either. I had a phone in my room and even when I was out, they took messages and made sure that I got them when I returned. They told me of places where I could go, helped me rent a car, and showed me all sorts of other things that would not only be fun, but would also not cost me an arm and a leg.
I gave this place a two star rating only because the facility was not what you would expect at a hotel in Barbados. But the staff, food, and price were right. And as I said earlier, the place was affordable, comfortable, peaceful, and secure.
I would recommend this place if you are looking for a no-frills stay in Barbados. Chandra will take wonderful care of you! |

We would definitely recommend this place. The accommodation can't be faulted. It is in a good location, provides a very good value, plus Roger and Chandra are very friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again. |

The perfect antidote to a British winter. Visited: January 2003 |

If you are dreading the onset of winter and want a reasonably priced, relaxing break, I would recommend Angler Apartments. We went there in January to help me up to cope with a significant birthday later in the year and it worked!
Chandra and Roger were so welcoming and helped arrange everything from taxi to/from airport and a welcoming beer, to car hire and supplying stamps! Also, Chandra's cooking was fantastic.
It was a short walk to all the lovely beaches for snorkeling, swimming and just relaxing. I would support the positive comments from other reviewers. It was a great place to really relax - I only wish I could do it again next year! |

This was a friendly, family-run business. They advised us on what to see and how to get there. The location was great, and the bus stop outside enabled us to explore the island for 50 pence. It was also very clean. |

A warm welcome preceded a lovely stay at the Angler. Visited: October 2002 |

This affordable, comfortable apartment is only a 5 minute walk away from the lovely beach at Derricks - one of Angler's many advantages. We saw some stunning sunsets and made use of Anglers outside shower before we went back into the apartment after a day on the beach.
Chandra and Roger are warm, friendly folk who made sure we had everything we needed. The phone just outside the apartment proved very useful - all local calls were free and and we were always told of any phone calls we missed.
We ate out most of the time, and restaurants by the beach were our favorite. The seafood was delicious and well worth a try - I'd recommend the flying fish.
We were told of the island's many delights by Chandra when we first arrived at the apartments - this included good places for snorkeling, sewimming, places of interest and good restaurants.
We would certainly return to Angler if we had the chance to come back to Barbados.

Fine, comfortable one-bedroom apartments that are perfect for one or two people. Visited: February 2002 |

We very much enjoyed our stay at this reasonably priced, pretty apartment complex with an open-air bar/breakfast restaurant and garden setting.
It was just a half block from a lovely beach in St. James, on the east (Caribbean) shore of Barbados.
We stayed in a nice, clean, simply furnished one-bedroom apartment (living/dining room opened onto a small but adequate kitchen; good sized bedroom with queen bed; bathroom with stall shower).
There was easy off-street parking available. There was no microwave, but we bought the freshest fish (tuna, barracuda, etc.) right from the boats and cooked in the kitchen. There were great fresh fruits available, too. It was easy and usually more fun to cook in and save money.
The phone outside one of the rooms could be used with international calling cards or for free local calls. Mercifully, there were no televisions or VCRs, although the owner was talking about installing some.
It was owned and operated by the lovely and charming Chandra Gosain, a native of Guyana who is a member of the Bajan (Barbadian, pronounced BAYjin) hoteliers association. She went out of her way to help us feel comfortable on the island, arranging scuba diving, parasailing, rental cars (which you will need if you stay here, unless you just want to sit in the garden and go to the beach), etc.
This was a very crowded and busy island with lots to do. There were two restaurants on the block doors away from Angler Apartments, and many others a short walk (if you can brave walking the busy, sidewalk-free roads) or drive away.
Drive on the left! Parking was challenging, but after a few days we got used to it. The biggest problem we had was adjusting to the busyness and crowdedness of the island, especially the ubiquitous pre-dawn-barking dogs.
But we did get used to it, and the friendliness of the people made up for it. |
