This is not a place for someone who likes a lot of amenities. However, the view is breathtaking. There is never a soul on the gorgeous white sand beach.

Also, the food is cheap and very good. The rooms are comfortable and spotless. The staff has been the same for years, and they couldn't be more friendly or helpful. It's a very safe, family-friendly place.

The only disadvantage is you cannot walk to anything. You definitely need a rental car - and the driving is on the left!

2.0 stars The staff was wonderful, and the view was beautiful, but I would prefer no bars on the windows. Visited: August 2006

The view was beautiful, and the staff was top notch.

However, it was a shock to me to see bars and padlocks on the windows that distorted the view. The rooms needed to be updated and maintained. This would be a beautiful place if they spent money on security and maintenance.

3.0 stars Long Beach is paradise! Visited: June 2006

This place is truly paradise. It isn't a five-star hotel. It is very basic, with no TV or other "extras". But what more do you need than white sand, gorgeous beaches, and friendly people?

Our room was big, and was cleaned every day. The staff helped us with everything we could want, but didn't disturb our peacful holiday.

Don't listen to negative reviewers who will make you worry about this place, we did and we shouldn't have bothered. Long Beach Club had exactly what we would want on a very relaxing island.

3.0 stars I had the best rest ever! Visited: March 2006
Posted by johnagreene
I went to Long Beach on a one-week vacation by myself and I enjoyed every single minute of the solitude. There was no TV, radio, clock, or telephone in the room -- it was great! You realize these things really only impede you getting to rest or plan an activity.

The staff was absolutely attentive regarding any requests for activities or services. The rooms were clean and comfortable (that's all I really required).

Since there are only 24 rooms, you get a chance to actually meet and get to know the other guests, if you choose to.

I've found my new hideaway..Barbados and Long Beach Club!

4.0 stars This is not for the snobby, "need everything" travelers. Visited: February 2006

Long Beach Club is a super place to relax, with all the kindness you could ever ask for. By far, they have one of the best settings in Barbados.

I have stayed here nine times, and already booked for my tenth visit. I am tired of reading reviews from the people who think everything has to be "their" way. A tip for all the people who complain about Long Beach Club - stay home.

4.0 stars Long Beach Club always gives me a treasured vacation! Visited: February 2006

I have been coming here for nearly a decade now. It's true that minimal changes have occured over the years, but that's the beauty of this place.

The rooms are neat, tidy, and quite adequate. Housekeeping will bend over backwards to accommodate nearly any of your needs. (Dotsie ~ you're the best).

No, there is no glitz or glamour at this place, but those of us who frequent here, love it that way. We get peace, quiet, and plenty of relaxation.

The view of Long Beach is spectacular. Most days you might see only 1/2 dozen people on the entire 1.5 mile beach. It's as if you own this little island paradise. It's definitely a great place to get back to basics while rejuvenating your mind, body, and soul.

Cool Runnings never loses its appeal, and Friday Night at Oistens Fish Fry is a true taste of island flare. Unlike some other Caribbean islands, I have never felt scared here. No one has ever hasseled or haggled me. All of the Barbadians I have encountered over the years have been courteous, polite, and helpful.

The pool is always in pristine condition. The food at the resturant is very reasonably priced compared to others on the island. Since there is a very limited amount of guests that can stay here (24 units), the bar is not a rowdy, happening place. It's very pleasant to enjoy a great island drink and meet some new people. I don't recall bar closing before 10:00 pm.

The trade winds on this southern tip have a natural cooling ability. It's a joy not to be in an AC room but rather be breathing clean, fresh air and listening to the pounding surf.

If you enjoy getting away from the rat race of tons of people ~ this is the place. There are two phones accessible to all guests and a common sitting room with a TV. The personable attention you will find here is unmatched by any other place on the island. It's so nice to come down to the pool in the morning and be greeted by staff using my first name. I like being a special guest and not just one who is only identified by a room number.

There is not much more that I can say except, you know yourself best. If you need crowds, noise, and lots of commotion, this place is not for you. On the other hand, if you are looking to relax, read a book, chill by the pool, walk on a nearly private beach, and meet some life long friends, you hit the nail on the head here. There is plenty of partying activity not far away at either St. Lawrence Gap or Bridgetown.

3.0 stars You get what you pay for here. Visited: December 2005
Posted by drb_misc
My friend and I spent just a few days here in December. It was exactly what we were looking for - a small resort, out of the way, no annoying phones or TVs blaring, and a quiet beach (although rough at times).

The kitchens in the rooms were outdated, but that's not what you are here for, are you? The service in the dining room was slow, but they seemed understaffed and everyone worked as hard as they could. Besides, this was "island time", meaning nothing was rushed.

I liked the idea of locals hanging out in the bar. We met a couple of very nice people over some cocktails. If being around locals bothers you, I suggest keeping your travels to inside the US. International travel is just that, meeting other cultures and living in conditions that may not be "Americanized".

We didn't think it was as bad as others said it was, but it could use a face lift.

1.0 stars Our stay here nearly ruined our honeymoon. Visited: October 2005
Posted by dale_c_dickerson
My husband and I were horrified by the conditions of the Long Beach Resort and the thought of spending our week-long honeymoon here.

The non-air conditioned unit (we requested air conditioning three months in advance) we were given had the two working ceiling fans decribed in the review. It just didn't say how rusted and dirty they would be. Nor did it decribe the mold, scum, and rust that we found in the bathroom sink and shower. I didn't want to take a shower without shoes.

Also, we were unable to sleep well either of the two nights we stayed here because of the old, shabby bed covers and the insite bites (possibly a spider). I thought the insect repellent we were told to bring was for the outdoors.

We didn't bother to use the miniature refrigerator because when turned to the highest level, it would not keep drinks cold. The food served at the restaurant was tasty, but limited. Not everything listed on the food and drink menu was available, and it wasn't a long list from which to choose.

It was obvious to us that there have been no investments made to the property in quite some time. It is unfortunate, because of the beautiful location of the resort. It is wasted.

In addition to the location, the only other positive was the staff. They were very nice, and tried to be as accommodating as possible. We were able to move to a three-star resort and this one did not compare.

5.0 stars How soon can we go back? Visited: September 2005

My wife and I, and our two children, had an absolutely amazing stay at the Long Beach Club.

I am truly shocked to see some of the contrary reviews on this site. I did not feel we were misguided in any way. All information that we received prior to arrival made it very clear that the rooms had no telephones, TV's, radios, etc..

Although available, we did not request a room with air-conditioning. However, our room was basic, clean and provided all that we needed for a relaxing week on the beautiful island of Barbados.

The restaurant was small and was generally staffed with one server (who was also responsible for the bar) and the cook. All meals were made to order, and were worth the wait. Part of the allure of Barbados is that everyone is on "island time". Be patient, it's worth it.

Although we agree that the Cool Runnings trip is a must, the Friday night fish fry in Oistins is not to be missed. The locals were kind, relaxed and gave us no reason to feel uncomfortable during our entire stay.

If you get the chance to have a driver give you a tour of the island, you will be sure to see and experience all that Barbados is about.

If you are not interested in the local culture, and lush accommodations are your interest, there are plenty of high-end resorts on the West Coast of the island. For that matter, there are plenty of five-star resorts in the US.

The Long Beach Club is an excellent choice if you are looking to relax. Whether you are enjoying the pool, the secluded beach, or the company of the staff and various locals, you will be made to feel comfortable.

On the last day, our plane did not leave until late in the afternoon. Since our room was scheduled for other guests, we were able to put our things in the courtesy room and enjoy a couple more hours sipping drinks at the bar and overlooking the spectacular coastline.

The staff was most accommodating, the food was excellent, and the entire stay was everything we had hoped for, and more.

Upon check-in, my wife and I were greeted with superlative service and with compassion by "Margo". She was both outstanding and professional (as well as informative on all we needed to see and do while on "Beautiful Barbados").

Our unit on the first floor with air-conditioning was more than adequate and also satisfied our basic needs. The close proximity to the airport, as well as Oistins and Bridgetown, meant we could do all our traveling by car easier to access.

Make sure you sign up for the events, especially the cruise on the "Cool Running Cruise". This is a must, and well worth it. The meal plan was a good deal overall, and the service with Mike was excellent. Also, be sure to go to Oistins for the Friday night fish fry.

On a last note, my wife and I were assigned to Unit 103. Upon check, we found someone had charged their meals to our room. This was easily corrected upon check-out by Freda, the assistant Manager. This was not something that normally happens, but check your bill before you pay before check-out.

My hats off to all of you at Long Beach Club. My wife and I plan to return here on our 30th wedding anniversary.

1.0 stars My honeymoon was almost ruined! Visited: September 2005

The night we arrived at our non-air conditioned, outdated room at the Long Beach Club, we were already looking for another place to stay.

At the restaurant/bar (which closed at 8:00 pm), we ate dinner (which took about two hours). We had horrible service (we had to walk to the room to refill our drinks), ate overpriced food ($50 for two people), and felt a little scared because it was also a local hang out.

They told us not to walk on the beach at night because we might get mugged, and the security guard sat on the steps and drank beer all night. The people were friendly, but why shouldn't they be they were taking us for every penny we had!

We asked at the front desk for a rental car, and they called someone (my mistake). The man who showed up took us back to his house (very scary) and we filled out the paper work in his garage. On the fifth day, we left to check into the Hilton in Bridgetown and that truly was a paradise.

5.0 stars We got engaged and then married here. Visited: August 2005
Posted by skisley17
This is like no other place you'll ever stay. I had read some of the other reviews, and I can't agree with a lot of them.

Long Beach Club is where my (now) husband and I got engaged. We had such a wonderful and welcoming visit that we knew right away that we had to get married here.

Our families also came down for our wedding, and loved every minute of being here.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The food and drink were awesome. This place was, and always will be, our paradise!

We didn't have air the first time we came here, but it didn't matter. You shouldn't spend so much time in the room anyway. Waking up and hearing the ocean and the birds, and smelling the beautiful flowers right outside the huge windows, couldn't compare to anywhere else in the world.

Thank you for such an awesome experience. We can't wait to come back!

1.0 stars I thought this resort was guilty of false advertising! Visited: August 2005
Posted by maxinesi
I went to the website to review the comments, and I don't think they were honest. They listed one or two true reports, then they posted the other reports about how beautiful and wonderful the place is.

I don't recommend you ever go to this resort! The island was beautiful, but not that resort! We had ants in the bathroom and in our bed! Also, there were bars on the windows, they had out dated kitchens with leaky pipes, and had poor security.

In addition, it was a very, very rough surf, and we were discouraged from swimming on that beach. I feel that RCI should remove Long Beach Club from their list of resorts!

1.0 stars Long Beach Club is for the desperates. Visited: August 2005

I don't believe the photos shown on the internet were what we got! In fact, it seemed obvious to us that the owner has not reinvested in this property since its beginnings.

Long Beach Club seemed to be caught in a time warp. It looked like something out of the early sixties. We thought the kitchen looked as if it was designed for small children. The stove reminded me of a Christmas gift I gave my five-year-old niece a few years ago. The one window (view) with three paddle locks was located in the very back of the room making it extremely dangerous if the very old-outdated appliances caught fire.

In addition, the room had ants. The bathroom doors did not have adequate locks. You were lucky if your unit had a microwave. Air conditioning and TV (only three good stations) were luxuries that had to be purchased.

The open air bar and dining area was nice, except it was a favorite hangout for the ‘locals” and it closed at 8:00 pm. The club was open to any “local” who wanted to hang out, play pool, ping pong or take a swim. The food was excellent; but the selections were limited and the portions were small.

With a few exceptions, I found the staff to be rude and not very accommodating. It seemed like you must bring plenty of US money if you want to have a half decent stay.

The club was in a remote area and offered very little in the area of fun. Long Beach charged for everything, including commissions per person to arrange for island trips. Nothing was complimentary.

Also, our cell phones did not work, and none of the rooms were equipped with telephones. This made it extremely difficult if we wanted to arrange our own fun.

The staff seemed very rigid when it came to checking out. Check out was at 10:00, and they did not make any exceptions. They will however, allow you to stay in a non-air conditioned unit without television and without providing anything to drink until your scheduled departure. We decided, as many others did, to wait at the airport until our airplane left at 2:55 pm.

Barbados is a beautiful island. I would visit again, but never again will I stay at “Norman’s Bates Motel”. Long Beach Club was not at all what we expected.

When I stayed here, there wasn't a TV, radio, air conditioning, or a telephone. I found the maintenance of the property to be insufficient. In addition, the furniture was old and ugly, and the restaurant closed at 7 p.m.

But ..... the landscaping was breathtakingly beautiful.

This property has a great potential. However, the lack of everyday appliances - i.e. TV, radio; telephones; and, not to mention, AC, was a problem.

Also, the staff was less than considerate to us. Sorry, but our stay in Barbados was tainted by our experience at Long Beach Club.

4.0 stars we enjoyed our ten days in Barbados. Visited: June 2004
Posted by alliebrian
What a location! What a staff! It was true heaven! The lodgings were basic, but clean and roomy. They had a small efficiency type kitchen, a comfortable queen bed and a sitting area. There was also a large separate area in front of the unit with folding louvers for privacy with fixed divan--quite comfortable king or twiin sleeping capability (depending on how you ask them to make it up). We enjoyed beautiful views of the ocean out of the end windows.

The staff was great--if you don't see it, or you want it, ask for it and they will find a way to do it for you. There may be a small charge, but you will get what you want.

The restaurant was much cheaper and better than most on the island. They will make what you ask if they have the ingredients. They will also cook your fish if you catch some while you are here.

It was a truly beutiful location, with a fantastic staff. It was an amazingly relaxing place to be. We can't wait to return!

The restaurant had excellent food at reasonable prices. The beach was three miles long back and forth and was wonderful to walk on.
