1.0 stars Barbados Beach Club was the worst hotel i have visited Visited: April 2002
Posted by sarahkfield
We choose the hotel as it was reasonable and looked really nice. We were in for a surprise the reception and accomation were basic and a bit tatty around the edges but not offensive. However the AI option was a joke their wasn`t much of a selection of drinks and the food was shocking in the main dinning room it literally looked like mixed up leftovers from the day before. it was displayed on plates with tin foil covering it so if you were taking a latter sitting it was cold. The entertainment at the hotel was near enough non existant the highlight was 2 lady singers who turned up with just a cassette player and went on to sing many out of tune songs which had the audience either killing themselves laughing or retiring to their rooms ....Basically I wouldn`t recommend this hotel to anyone

4.0 stars I traveled alone and am planning to return. Visited: April 2002

This is my first visit to Barbados. I went by myself and I chose this property based a few things - including reviews I had read here. I e-mailed the property with loads of questions and received detailed, courteous and prompt responses.

The hotel was oceanfront, it was practically on the beach itself. I stayed in a king size oceanfront room. The room was very clean and kept very cool. There were three restaurants to choose from Searocks (they had great seafood ) and the Italian restaurant, Vinettos.

The poolside restaurant, where I ate most of my meals, had buffet-style dining. They had a variety of meals each of the six days I was there.

The service was impeccable - particularly Carrie, at the front desk, Sandra, in the gift shop, Michelle, at the bar, and Captain Roy. In addition, Shirley braided my hair with such a gentle touch.

At night, they had a small band - they sounded great. Guests could also catch a cab to nearby spots. The hotel was not far from the airport. It was a small property, so it was very easy to meet people. For me, traveling alone, that was wonderful.

If I had to pick things apart and complain, the men there were "unique". For me, it got bad - the men were aggressive. It was a good thing the hotel did not let them in. I will return, but I'm coming with someone.

There were a lot of places to choose from, but for the price I paid, I really feel like made a wonderful choice. I will definitely return.

4.0 stars An excellent room, great food and friendly staff. Visited: March 2002
Posted by RogerHayward
The room was spacious and quite clean. It overlooked the garden. We had requested a quiet room and this request was met happily. Also, the air conditioning excellent.

The food was exceptionally good for a buffet style, added to which guests were allowed two nights per week in the seafood restaurant and one night in an Italian-style restaurant. The only problem was that when you booked for these specials, you may miss out on an exceptional choice in the buffet. Some problem!

The pool and beach were fine and the water sports were quite sufficient. The staff was all incredibly helpful in all areas.

The evening entertainment was rather limited and the weekly show was not exceptional and it was repeated each week. But, there was other night life available nearby.

All in all, we would definitely stay here again if we returned to Barbados.

3.0 stars An excellent location with a friendly staff. It was a great holiday! Visited: March 2002

My husband, our two children (ages four and one) and I stayed here for two weeks.

We stayed in room 214, which overlooked the pool area and had a fabulous view of the beach and ocean. Our room was beautiful - with air conditioning, a refrigerator and even a sitting area!

The breakfasts and lunches were delicious with everything you could want. Meals were taken overlooking the beach and ocean. I cannot recommend the staff highly enough, nothing was too much trouble for them - and our two children adored the waitresses in the main restaurant.

Evening meals were taken either in the main buffet restaurant or in the Italian or SeaRocks Restaurant. The standard of food in SeaRocks could not be faulted and the lobster was especially delicious.

We also found Barbados Beach Club to be an excellent value for the money, and it was in a great location (we went all over the island from the bus stop nearby!).

It was a lovely place to spend two weeks. I would not hesitate to recommend it!

2.0 stars Beautiful view, beautiful beaches, disappointing food Visited: March 2002

This all-inclusive property was located on a beautiful beach with breathtaking views from the rooms.

However, we were very disappointed in the food. Breakfast was the best meal except for being served Tang instead of orange juice. Lunch and dinner offered limited choices. The all-inclusive included one dinner at Venitos and two dinners at Searocks. However, reservations were required and both restaurants were fully booked, so we missed out on the good food.

The poolside bar did not open until 10:30 a.m., so we could not get soft drinks and icewater while sunning on the beach until late morning.

A warning for future guests: the hotel provided poolside entertainment in the form of a D.J. or a live band until 11:30 p.m. It was always too loud to sleep.

Our room was on the 7th floor and the air-conditioning barely kept the room cool. The water pressure was low and we had no hot water the last morning we were here.

4.0 stars This is a friendly place in the sun. Visited: February 2002

We had ten days at this lovely place.

The beach had just enough shade to protect the untanned. The food was ample with lots of fruit in the morning. Also, the specialty restaurants were excellent for a change of menu.

The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. The only complaint we had was that the music in the courtyard after 10:30 p.m.was a little too loud for us to be able to sleep.

All in all, it was a wonderful place to spend a holiday.

This was my third or fourth visit since '97. I would have visited more often, but I was compulsory transferred to other hotels kicking and screaming on a couple of occasions! However, that gave me something to compare.

Took my son (29) this time to introduce him to the delights of Barbados and the Barbados Beach Club as he'd heard so much about it from my previous visits. Again it lived up to expectations. The staff was fantastic, really helpful and friendly in the Bajan, laid-back way. The food is good, better this time than on previous occasions, although I had no complaints then either.

We particularly enjoyed the watersports, windsurfing, Hobie cat, snorkeling etc., although this time these were limited by the hours of the 'Captain'. I thoroughly recommend this hotel if you want to stay and enjoy the water with a little 'kick' in it (the West Coast is calmer).

I’m sure that we'll back - wonder if my son will be back with the girl he met here and who he is still seeing since her return to Germany and England respectively?! There are other hotels with higher standards of food etc., but at least here you have the chance to try some Bajan food if you want to—go on, try it, it's great. You won't get other hotels at this price. It’s a great value, keep it that way.

4.0 stars It was extremely friendly and relaxing. Visited: September 2001

The food at the Barbados Beach Club was excellent. We ate three times a day with a wide variety of food to choose from. The Sea Rocks and the Italian Cuisine was outstanding. We found the staff friendly and helpful. The complex was clean with many excursions to choose from.

We rode in a helicopter, snorkeled with the turtles and dove in a submarine to experience all Barbados had to offer and all of these were easily booked through guest services.

The beach was beautiful and the all-inclusive sports were there should you have wanted them. There was entertainment for you, so you could relax by the pool and the ocean and you could really get to know the other guests or sit by yourself and enjoy the views.

The view from our room was breathtaking; we were facing the ocean from our balcony and from our right window was Oistins. In the morning you could watch the sun come up and see the turtles swimming in the ocean.

I would recommend the Barbados Beach Club in Maxwell to any traveler, as Maxwell is a very beautiful part of the island. The food is lovely and the staff is very helpful and friendly.

We hired a car and saw most of Barbados in a day and we had the freedom to go and visit places in our own time.

4.0 stars Very good hotel with nice location on the beach Visited: May 2001

This was me and my wife's first taste of a Caribbean all-inclusive holiday and the Barbados Beach Club lived up to our expectations very well. The staff appeared a little sullen, but were very nice and friendly once spoken to. A particular mention must go to the very helpful staff in guest services.

It is in a very windy position which means the sea can be quite rough and therefore not suitable for children. However it's great for the numerous water sports activities supplied free and helps to keep the humidity down and make the sun less intense.

Our first impressions of the poolside restaurant were a little disappointing as the buffet is not displayed in a very fancy way (apart from one evening a week). But this was more than compensated by the quality and quantity of the food and the wonderful position overlooking the beach and sea.

Searocks and Venitos restaurants provide a welcome change from the buffet with first class waitress service. However the standard of the food served was a little hit and miss.

Trips to recommend are the fish fry in Oistins on a Friday night and Ted's Excellent island tour, a tour with a real character that makes it very special. The evening entertainment was generally good but the Karaoke on Friday nights lets it down, go into Oistins instead.

We would not hesitate in recommending this hotel, well done Barbados Beach Club.

3.0 stars Good location, great staff, fantastic value Visited: November 2000

We stayed at the Barbados Beach Club for two weeks and found this property to be great value for money, located on a good beach and with some really good staff.

This was not a luxury all-inclusive resort but my girlfriend are both hoteliers in the UK, hence we may be more critical than most and we found it to be great for our needs.

The rooms were a good size with very effective air-conditioner and were very clean. The poolside bar was great for a cool beer and the beach was a little small but very good. Try the hobie sailing - great fun !

Buffet food in the poolside restaurant was plentiful and good, if sometimes a little limited in choice. Searocks had great lobster and Venitos Italian was well worth a try.

This hotel does not have the Kudos that one can find on the West Coast, but for a relaxing time it was a winner. We spoke with a number of couples who had been coming to the Barbados Beach Club (or Welcome Inn - former name) for up to 20 years - they can't all be wrong!

We have seen a few hotels in Barbados now and without a doubt will return here.

Tips - try the Catamaran trip to swim with turtles but there are a few vessels available and I would recommend Cool Runnings (number in the 'phone book or in your visitor pack). The other 'cats' are bigger but more people are packed in - Cool Runnings is licensed for 50 but they only take 26 - more room to relax, party, and enjoy the Banks beer or Rum Punches.

In summary - if you want to stay on the south coast, I wholly recommend this hotel.

3.0 stars I recommend this resort, and would stay here again. Visited: October 2000

We stayed at the Beach Club for nine days and the staff were great. The hotel was very clean. The food was excellent, a little repetitive, but excellent. If you are looking for fancy drinks, order them somewhere else, as on the site this is not the case.

The beach was beautiful. It was a little wavy, but nothing out of the ordinary for the southern coast. There was always entertainment in the evening, but the only downfall was it ended at 11:30 pm. Oiestens is only a 15-minute walk and a staff member will walk you out there on Friday. I do not recommend that you go on Saturday.

Shopping was very expensive and there was really not much to buy. There was a shuttle that takes you to Bridgetown for $10 US and picks you up at 1:30 pm. It was well worth it, and the time frame was good, too. I would highly recommend the Island Safari that can be arranged by the hotel.

The tennis courts and basketball courts were across the street, and the water sports were limited. You should do the snorkeling and scuba diving on a tour. The pool was clean, but was not as big as it appears to be in the photos. Who needs a pool with such a beautiful ocean? There were always lawn chairs available.

All the rooms have a small fridge if you need one and the view from poolside was beautiful.

All in all, it was a very nice place to stay, which was a nice surprise. Just a small note about the atmosphere: the people on the island are very straight faced, but once you get to know the staff they warm up easily. There is a $350 deposit required for the use of the safety deposit box, and a $30 deposit required for your towels for the beach. Fresh, clean, white towels were always replenished in our room every morning. Plus, you are able to exchange your US money for Barbadian money at the front desk. You will enjoy your stay here!

4.0 stars Relaxing, simple unfussed hotel in a great location. Visited: September 2000

The Barbados Beach Hotel is perfect for a relaxing break. The rooms are comfortable with good facilities - exactly what you would expect for a 3-star hotel.

The food is good although the choice can be a bit limited in the main buffet restaurant. There is no excuse for going hungry though. The Italian and Seafood restaurants are very good. Food quality and choice here are excellent.

The drink selection in the bars is limited in that they only use local brands but you are getting what you paid for and we certainly had no complaints.

The beach is small but adequate. Views are fantastic and there is no shortage of sun loungers.

In short, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. You won't find 5-star luxury but it isn't a 5-star hotel and they don't charge 5-star prices.

3.0 stars Great hotel, bad food Visited: December 1969
Posted by ATraveler
This hotel property was recommended to us by friends of ours who stayed here when it was still called the Welcome Inn. The hotel was very well located with gorgeous beaches; the staff were courteous but the food was not good. What they called orange juice was in fact "Tang", dinner was recycled as tomorrow's lunch. My wife, my son and I had to order "KFC" since the restaurants located in the hotel were all booked well in advance.

All in all, it's a very nice property but I wouldn't recommend eating here.

We have stayed at the Welcome Inn three times since 1997, so have seen it prior to and since being refurbished. The service is excellent and the food is good. Many rooms have an ocean view and the entertainment is good. There is a 20 minute walk to either Oistins or St. Lawrence Gap, where there is plenty to see and do. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

4.0 stars Loved the hotel and the help - no fear of danger. Visited: December 1969

We have been all over the Caribbean and this island and hotel has restored our faith in that there is a place in the islands that hasn't been spoiled by the U.S. tourist industry. Our concept of simple but warm and friendly perhaps hokey at best or even corney, but in the most wonderful way. We will return soon. The rooms remind me of Cuba in the old sections, clean and well kept. You can expect food that you would serve your friends, good and clean.

The children of Barbados are as our children were when we had mom and dad home. Downtown no fear. Use Canadian dollars.

3.0 stars Ideal family hotel Visited: December 1969
Posted by ATraveler
We transferred to the Barbados Beach Club and found it clean and welcoming to a family with a toddler. All the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The Superior and Deluxe rooms all commanded good views either across the pool or the ocean, they were a good size (even with a travel cot) with good air-conditioning. They were very well cleaned, had adequate hanging space and hairdryers were provided in the room. An iron and ironing board were available on request.

The hotel was situated on a clean, pleasant beach which our 20-month old toddler loved, he was never far from the edge of the sea. The sand was fine and white and virtually no pebbles. The waves did get high at times but if you swim past them you can get an excellent swim. Limited water sports were included in the price.

There was no shortage of loungers either around the pool or on the beach. Beach towels were provided on receipt of a deposit and could be changed daily.

The food was tasty and varied in the main restaurant. The waiting staff were very helpful and would prepare something special for you if you wished. However, I would make sure you visit SeaRocks "a la carte" restaurant the two nights a week and Venito's Italian Restaurant one night a week you are allowed in the all-inclusive package. Here toddlers can accompany you, the meals were well presented, tasted good and the service made for an enjoyable and relaxing night.

The entertainment at night was varied, they had a good calypso singer and it finished around 11 p.m. The bar service at times was slow but it stocked a fairly good range of drinks.

The only drawback of this hotel was that it clearly had a lot more potential than it was currently used for and its all-inclusive features were limited. If the owners used it to its full potential it would be a superb hotel in a good location. If we go back to Barbados, we would return here.
