My wife and I married at Southern Palms, and it was one of the best times of our lives!
The resort was amazing, ensuring that everything went to plan. Jenni, the events co-ordinator, was superb - from start to finish.
Southern Palms was a five-minute walk from all the excitement of St. Lawrence Gap, teeming with bars and restaurants. Our favorite was Pisces. It had a lovely setting where you can watch the turtles as you eat your delicious food.
Our room overlooked the beautiful beach. It was never overcrowded, and had clean white sands; clear, warm sea; swaying palms; and was frequented by the friendliest locals on the planet.
The room itself was clean and cool, and the full size fridge was a great addition. The complimentary rum and coke was a nice touch indeed. The bathroom was clean and functional, and our room was serviced every day.
There were always cleaning staff, security guards, and maintenance guys around. The hotel was very well maintained.
All the staff were friendly and helped us with whatever we needed. The bar staff knew us almost instantly. I think I told them my room number once, then they all seemed to know it from then on.
The bar area was perfectly situated, right next to the beach. Sipping daquiris and watching the turtles in the sea (or as happened to us, laying eggs right in front of us) was just incredible!
Southern Palms is a brilliant place to stay. They had great facilities, and amazing staff. Also, Barbados, as a whole, was absolutely stunning.
We can't wait to get back and 'keep it real' with our Bajan friends very soon.

We enjoyed 18 fantastic days and nights. Visited: July 2005 |

We have just returned from 18 nights at Southern Palms. The hotel had a superb beachfront location and the views were spectactular on opening the curtains each morning. We had an oceanview suite over two floors, which left plenty of room for our two children (ages 9 and 6) to play around. The hotel grounds were immaculate - as were the pools and beach.
The hotel's best asset was undoubtedly the staff. Each member of staff (receptionists, maids, bar staff, restaurant staff, watersports, and Wye who looked after the crazy golf) couldn't seem to do enough for us. Wye played golf with our children many times - as did Sandy from Watersports. All the bar and restaurant staff took time out to chat with the kids, too, and were on first name terms with them on a daily basis.
St. Lawrence Gap had everything. The shops, vendors and the restaurants were superb. You could eat as cheaply or as expensively as you wish -from choice of Italian (two), Mexican, Chinese (two), Irish Bar, Steak House, Pizza, Caribbean and our personal favorite - Harlequins. All were within a ten-minute walk of Southern Palms, which itself also had excellent restaurant and bar menus and entertainment on several nights. The steel band on Sunday afternoons was excellent, and it was so relaxing lying by the pool or beach listening to them.
Over the last few years, we have traveled to Antigua (twice) and St. Lucia, and had planned to go to Aruba next year. Our policy is that the world is too big to return to the same resort twice. However, on the way home we decided that we all wanted to return to Southern Palms next year and hope to book within the next week or so.
We were amazed at the number of people we met who had been to this resort before (some many times). But I guess that lets you know what an excellent hotel this really is. Roll on our next visit! |

Southern Palms is a nice place to stay. Visited: August 2004 |

I stayed at the Southern Palms August 8, 2004 thru August 12, 2004. I stayed in room 230 in the Jasmine Building - it was an efficiency room with a separate bedroom with a king bed.
The kitchen facilities were not all that great (no toaster or microwave) and looked a bit outdated and old, we ended up just using the refrigerator.
The rest of the room was just fine. The A/C unit was only in the bedroom, but it was powerful enough to cool the living room area also. The private balcony was nice and the view was terrific.
In general, the hotel was nice and in a great location. The beach was very nice. We could walk around the Gap and find many restaurant choices.
My only negatives were that the self service laundry was $5 per load, per machine; and we had to rent beach umbrellas from the "guy" on the beach - and when he ran out we were out of luck for any shade. Call me silly, but if I'm paying $220 per night for a room at a "resort", why do I have to pay another $10 for an umbrella on the "resort's" beach.
I would stay at the Southern Palms again, but next time in a standard ocean view room. |

We have just returned from two weeks at the Southern Palms Beach Club and we cannot fault the hotel. The location was suberb - right on the beach and a minute's walk from a good selection of resturants.
Although the room was basic, it was clean and had a great view of the sea. All the staff was great and they always had time to talk and have a laugh with guests. It was nice to be able to walk down to the pool and find a sun bed.
The big plus for us was the afternnon tea, a nice touch by the hotel. The only down side was the few sellers that we found on the beach. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we will going back next year. |

This was an ideal place for a relaxing holiday. Visited: August 2002 |

My daughter and I stayed here in August and September, and enjoyed our holiday very much.
We are both beach bums and preferred to loaf around by the ocean for our entire vacation, just reading and sleeping - but we did venture on a couple of excursions. We took the submarine trip, which was rather expensive and quite claustrophobic for me. But my daughter enjoyed seeing a few underwater creatures and the captain and crew were quite comical.
We also took a catarmaran trip which was fabulous. This gave us an opportunity to 'swim' with the turtles. Again, the crew was very entertaining and friendly.
The hotel was fine but the weather was unsettled. Athough we had lots of sunshine, we also had cloud and rain and were forever asking the locals for an optimistic forecast.
Because of a tropical storm, we were marooned at the hotel for an extra day as the airport had been closed. We had already checked out of our room so it was a very long wait for Virgin Airline to agree to pay the hotel for us to stay an extra night. We were not in our old room, but somewhere else in the hotel that was not as nice and we had no luggage, as it was already at the airport. So be prepared when you check out and the weather looks stormy. Some extra items in your hand luggage is always worth thinking about.
All in all, we had a great holiday. Look for "Wasa", who ran a jewelery stall opposite the hotel. He was always so friendly and helpful and would make anything to order. If you see him, tell him we said "hi".

We chose the Southern Palms for our wedding and holiday of this year, and we could not have chosen a better hotel.
The staff was friendly and had arranged our wedding beautifully. The beaches were picture-perfect with white sand, crystal blue waters and were nice and quiet.
A must for all "water babes" to Barbados was The Boatyard to party and for the Scuba Diving. Also a must was Pisces fish restuarant, The Lucky Horseshoe and McBrides. |

Southern Palms is such a beautiful resort and hotel. The staff is very nice and helpful. They make your stay more enjoyable. I have been going to Southern Palms for 3 years and I plan to keep going back for many more years. One day I even plan to move to Barbados because southern palms has influenced me so much.
At night if you don't want to eat at the restaurant you can just walk up the Gap and go to a restaurant along the way. There is Pisces, which is really good. Well they all are good. McBride's, Steak house, The Pizza Hut, Mascarade, there is plenty to choose from and also many bars along the way.
The beach is beautiful and clean. The watersports staff is willing to help you with anything you need. I was able to get a lounger everyday without any problems.
And then there is Koko the parrot. We liked Koko so much that we brought him a toy. I plan to keep going back over and over again. It is just a great experience. I love Barbados! |

We stayed here for three nights in Dec. 2001. The resort itself is nice and well mantained, rooms could use some work though. Excellent beach and location with St. Lawerance Gap you have a wide range of restaurants and there's one night club all within walking distance.
The major downfall of the resort was its food. We had breakfast included and would have rather paid and eaten elsewhere. |

I just returned from Southern Palms and I can't believe how great this Caribbean jewel is.
They have great service, a large, lovely and absolutely fabulous beach, and is centrally located near restaurants, grocery stores, clubs etc.
I was supposed to get a garden/pool view room but it seems all rooms have a view of the ocean. I don't think the owners know that they should be charging a lot more for what you get at this location. I'm already plotting my next return!

What An Awesome Value! Visited: April 2001 |

I was traveling by myself and was looking for a place to stay that was priced modestly yet had direct access to a beach and other amenities. The Southern Palms was awesome. My room was a "Garden View" about 20 feet from the pool and a 20-second walk to the beach. The room was nothing special, but I could hear the pounding surf at night to lull me to sleep. It was clean and always attended to by a very pleasant staff.
The staff had some of the nicest people I have throughout in my travels. From Jenny who handles day trips for you to Sigmund the bartender. Have him make a "corn oil" for you! I only had a breakfast and a lunch at the restaurant. Both were just fine. The Flying Fish Sandwich was great! There are so many restaurants in the area to choose from too! All within walking distance. I liked Pisces, David's Place and Jambalaya. There are so many more to check out as well.
The ocean at the Southern Palms reminded me of beaches I have up here in New England. It was not tranquil like in some other parts of the island. You can see sea turtles feeding at sunset, too! If you need to get on the Internet, just across the street is the Happy Days Cafe which is open from 8AM-3PM. Andrew & Company offers the utmost in hospitality and great Internet rates.
The Southern Palms is a great value! Great location! And most importantly...great people!

Being a travel agent I often travel to various destinations. When I knew I was going to Barbados I wasn't sure what to expect. After a 5-hour flight from Toronto I knew this was going to be a vacation of a lifetime.
Checking in was a breeze. The main entrance was completely open and the ocean was only a few steps away. You could feel the breeze and hear the ocean, which was very peaceful. When we opened our room door we were in heaven. We had a full kitchen with all supplies, a French patio and a full balcony. When we threw open the curtains the ocean was right there and we were in heaven. This resort was awesome. The beach was fine white sand, watersports were readily available, mini golf was included as well as shuffleboard. The staff was great and there was always someone around to answer any questions I had.
The location was great, too. It was right in the heart of the St. Lawrence gap. Bars, restaurants and shops were readily available and the hotel was on the bus route. The Congaline Carnival was also going on and the hotel was only a few steps away from all of the action. The locals were awesome and very friendly. I could go for walks at any time and the hotel was close to everything.
Things in Barbados were not that expensive, but as a tip take Barbados dollars, as it is so much easier. Tours were extra, but there were many to choose from. The island tour was great and the Jolly Roger was awesome. The hotel can book it for you and will pick you up and drop you off at the hotel.
I would recommend this hotel to couples, families, singles, friends, and groups—well, everyone. It truly was perfect and I had no complaints. If you go to this hotel you will not be disappointed. "The Pink Hotel," as it is called, is well worth the money. The only problem you may have is that you will be planning your return before you even leave.

Great holiday in Barbados. Visited: October 2000 |

We booked the Southern Palms as a last minute, weeklong holiday. We chose the hotel on this website and then found it in a brochure. It sounded great, but don't they always? It was! The hotel was right on the beach.
We booked a room but got an apartment, which was spacious and well decorated. The balcony was the biggest we've ever seen. The beach was only 25 steps from our apartment. Every morning we grabbed a free lounger and free beach towel and would then lie at the water’s edge.
The bar/restaurant was friendly and not too expensive. The staff was accessible and helpful. There was entertainment on most nights even though the hotel is ideally placed on St. Lawrence Gap, where many of the bars and restaurants are located.
This was our first time in the Caribbean and it lived up to all our expectations and the hotel even surpassed them. We would definitely recommend the Southern Palms and hope to return soon.

This was our first time in Barbados and it was beautiful! Southern Palms was clean and comfortable. We stayed in a room overlooking the pool on the second floor and also facing the ocean. We enjoyed many a good nights relaxing on the balcony, sipping some famous Bajan rum (a complimentary bottle was provided).
The beach was gorgeous and the color of the water was spectacular. The food at the hotel was very good. I recommend the Dorado fish and a Banks beer. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating.
I will be returning this year with my sister and niece and look forward to having another wonderful time. Oh Yeah! Though the food is fantastic, it is very expensive. Food in general in the Barbados is expensive. You can take the bus to town and stock up on snacks at the grocery store and store it in the room refrigerator to help offset the cost.
The hotel had two nice pools, tea time at 3pm each day, a pool table and some basic entertainment. There were also some nice restaurants and bars along the gap if you are looking for something different.
I highly recommended Southern Palms; it’s a good value for the price!

The staff were very helpful. The rooms were very nice and clean. My wife and I were put in a fabulous two-story suite overlooking the ocean. We had a meal plan where anything charged to our room (to a max of $500 Bds) would be cut by 50% when checking out. This was great because we were free to eat at other places in St. Lawrence Gap (of which there were many).
The beach was a dream, and it was nice overlooking it while having a very filling breakfast buffet.
All of Barbados was very expensive. It was a very safe island to walk or drive around. Look out for the entrepreneurs on the streets, they first come off a little intimidating but if you persist in saying no, they will graciously back down.
The two swimming pools were nice for that "cool off" swim at midnight as they were well lit.

Southern Palms saved our honeymoon. Visited: December 1969 |

Southern Palms provided a relaxed, comfortable stay for my wife and I on our honeymoon. The staff were friendly, and the accommodations met our expectations. The restaurant food was okay (not much flavor), but we ate out most every night anyway.
The hotel is located along a strip of several nice restaurants, bars, and shops in The Gap. Our room overlooked the spacious white, sandy beach, and there were watersports and mini-golf at our disposal. We even shot a little pool in the hotel restaurant at happy hour.
Southern Palms wasn't our first choice but it was the best choice. Our honeymoon didn't really begin until we arrived at Southern Palms.

Relaxing, enjoyable resort. Visited: December 1969 |

Southern Palms is an enjoyable resort that can be either as low-key or as active as you want it to be. Rooms are simply furnished but clean and comfortable. There are two pools and a lovely beach. Watersports are complimentary, so is mini-golf. The resort is a five-minute walk to the popular St. Lawrence Gap area if you want to try restaurants and nightlife. Food is okay but expensive.
