1.0 stars It was adventurous and we had many first-time events. Visited: February 2005

We had looked for a place in Belize which was convenient to the interior eco and Mayan sites, but would also be comfortable for two families (total of eight). In every respect, Jaguar Paw was the right place.

Minimal intrusion into the "jungle feeling" of the resort could be felt thoroughout. The cottages were a "remote" one-minute walk from the main building (restaurant, reception), but we still felt isolated.

The rooms were comfortable and decorated in an eclectic, even humorous, tropical style. We had an old black/white photo of Clint Eastwood in our bathroom with a real red bandana around the picture's neck. Elsewhere, there were loads of Central American art (masks, paintings, etc.).

Jaguar Paw's off site trips were excellent. The cave tubing (long course) with head lamps was relaxing, beautiful and informative. On our 45-minute hike through the jungle to the tubing river, our guide gave us lots of information about the flora and fauna.

Also, the zip line experience through the trees was thrilling but always safe (excellently trained staff). Our trip further west to two Mayan sites was also well organized and staffed. They even brought us directly from the sites to the airport because of our schedule.

And lastly, (almost forgot!) the food was excellent. What a great place. I highly recommend it!

5.0 stars When is the last time you tried something for the first time? Visited: May 2003

"When is the last time ...." is what's on the back of my Jaguar Paw shirt. This question will be something I will focus on for the rest of my life.

This is my first day back to work and people are asking me where I've been. They all say I look so relaxed and look years younger.

My daughter and I were at Ambergris Caye for a week and then at Jaguar Paw for two days. My daughter came with an attitude. She's 19 and just spent the week laying in the sun on the beach, shopping, and being one of several thousand tourists - and wanted to turn around and head back to San Pedro.

Within two hours, she was happy and real laid-back. I felt completely at home within an hour and immediately felt the stress fall off of me.

We had such a positive experience. All of the people were absolutely great - very friendly, courteous, helpful, etc. The food was to die for. I loved the shrimp salad, the shrimp cocktail, the chicken Tikel, fresh fruit, etc.

The surroundings were gorgeous - you felt like you were in Heaven. The rooms did not have a television, alarm clock, radio, or telephone but everything else we needed. All of those were available in the lodge, but we did not need them. We slept great each night (unlike at home) and woke to the birds singing. I highly recommend Jaguar Paw.

If I can feel this refreshed after two days, there's no telling what a week would do. The only problem that I could forsee would be that I had so much trouble leaving after two days that I might never go back home after a week. I know I'll be returning - hopefully in much better shape with increased stamina, so that I can enjoy the wonders of the rain forest.

4.0 stars Nice to Visit, but I Wouldn't Want to Stay! Visited: March 2003

We did not stay here, but we did visit to take their cave tubing excursion.

From the point where you turn in from the main highway (I think it was the Hummingbird Highway), it is about a 20 to 30 minute trip down a VERY BUMPY AND DUSTY back road. I had heard this prior to our trip, but I wasn't prepared for just how BUMPY and DUSTY the road was.

The lodge is really isolated in the middle of the jungle. I had debated about staying here (versus the Radisson Fort George in Belize City), and was glad that I chose not to. The property was nice, but really secluded. It would have been necessary to eat all meals at the hotel for there was nothing else around for miles. We had lunch at Jaguar Paw, and it was quite good, but I would have tired of the same menu after three days.

The rooms are spread throughout the jungle, and it was difficult to find them when following the paths. I can't imagine what it would be like to try to find your room at night! The pool is small but cute, and there are resident caged animals on site (including two coatamundi). There is a tiny waterfall near the pool, and as my husband and I were looking at it, we spied a huge boa constrictor at our feet eating a garden snake! That was all I needed to see to realize that I made the right decision to stay in the city!

The cave tubing was a unique experience, but a little eerie at times. We were the only two people on our tour, but towards the end, the river/caves get overrun by large groups of shrieking cruise ship passengers.

5.0 stars It was absolutely fantastic. Visited: July 2002

We were in Belize for a week-long vacation and spent three wonderful days at Jaguar Paw Jungle Resort.

Our room was beautifully decorated with sea shells, and was very clean and comfortably air-conditioned. The fact that there was no phone, television or clock in the room really helped us to get away from it all.

The main lodge had a great little restaurant and bar with wonderful food. It also had a satellite TV so we could catch up on the outside world. They also had a phone, fax and internet that guests could use.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We went on three trips with the wonderful Jaguar Paw guides -- all day to the Mayan ruins, half a day cave tubing, and half day cave exploration. The trips were great and very reasonably priced.

We could not have had a more enjoyable time and would recommend Jaguar Paw to anyone who is adventurous and wants to have a really interesting and relaxing vacation off the beaten path.

5.0 stars An outstanding experience; Our honeymoon was unforgettable Visited: December 1969

We stayed at the Jaguar Paw Lodge (in the seashell room) for 3 days of our honeymoon. We had read the brochures and website, and so knew a bit of what to expect; however, we still felt like kids in a candy shop when we arrived.

The environment was beautiful, the people were unusually friendly, the rooms were unique and comfortable, the food was wonderful, and the activities were outstanding!
