Beautiful resort, but poor restaurant service. Visited: May 2003
Posted by jlgonet
My fiancé and I just returned from an incredible 10 days in Belize. We spent 7 of those days at beautiful Ramon's Resort where we were married on May 22nd. The wedding experience was very positive. Ramon's coordinator, Amy, was fantastic and handled everything for us.

The rooms were nice, the gardens and beach were awesome. The dive shop took a little while to warm-up, but was well staffed and helpful with all of our scuba needs. The only thing we were not impressed with was Ramon's restaurant staff. The majority of our waiters were inattentive and S-L-O-W. It often took over an hour to get our breakfast, which was included daily in our 7-night package. We found that lunch and dinner were much tastier and the service was better at other local spots on Ambergris Caye. All in all, we give Ramon?s a high rating, just find another place to share a romantic dinner for two.

Receive personal service in Paradise at Ramon's Village Resort. Visited: March 2003

My wife and I have just returned from our honeymoon in Belize. We spent five days at Ramon's Village Resort.

My wife was looking for a destination which did not have the large crowds of the major resorts and offered something no longer available in many Caribbean destination (personalized service). I have traveled a lot on business and vacations, and have stayed at many top rated hotels. My wife has accompanied me on some of my trips, so we were both accustomed to big named hotels and resorts.

We were pleased that Ramon's lived up to our expectations. As referred to in other reviews, the grass huts were unique, although the bathrooms and shower (although clean) needed updating. This resort was a watersports paradise. Snorkeling and scuba were available right off the dock of Ramon's.

What had not been previously mentioned was that you could snorkel right off the dock and see most of the fish on the offshore reef and marine park. We went snorkeling and fishing several times (while fishing we caught a barracuda), and each time our groups for the excursion were less than four people for the entire boat. Also, the locations we traveled to were not overcrowded either.

The bartenders at Ramon's were very good, and the food was good, as well. As mentioned in other reviews, don't be afraid to venture out into San Pedro for other dining, and do try the local food.

This was a very relaxing trip, with plenty of activity to occupy our time if we wished. It was a resort with personal service - so personal that the owner (Ramon) often sat down at the bar and bought drinks for guests.

We had the best vacation ever! Visited: February 2003

I've been to many places throughout the Caribbean--Jamaica, Cancun, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Of all the places, Belize (specifically Ambergris Caye) was my favorite.

My husband and I just returned five days ago from a week at Ramon's Village. The thatched roof huts were cute, the air conditioning worked perfectly, the bathroom was in good condition (but nothing exceptional). Most importantly, the room was unique--something you don't see at the Sandals, Marriots or Couples resorts we've stayed at.

The overall character of the resort was very friendly--from the other guests to the staff. The drinks and food were both good (although any visitor should venture to the other nearby restaurants that offer a variety of cuisine--sushi, Italian and Chinese). The prices for the food at Ramon's were a bit higher than other nearby restaurants.

Ramon's Village was a refreshing change from the normal, staid and throughly un-unique typically Caribbean vacation. Five stars all of the way!

Disappointing and Poor Service Visited: December 2001

We stayed here for four nights just before Christmas and I would not recommend it. We found the staff for the most part to be inattentive and always waiting for a tip.
For example, upon arrival we were escorted to our room in a golf cart. The staff member at this point helped us take our luggage into the room. Once in however, we realized it was not a beach front room as requested but a garden room. He looked surprised and told me to walk back to reception. In the confusion which was not our fault, I forgot to tip him and that was a big mistake (as we would find out). When I returned and told him that it indeed was the wrong room, he apologized but remained in the golf cart without helping us with our luggage. When we arrived at the new room, he did not get out but rather waited for us to take the luggage off the cart. We encountered this behavior again when we checked out.

Employees also lounged in hammocks on more than one occaision during our stay. Once we asked if we could use the hammocks thinking the gardners would leave and go back to work. Instead, we were told to obtain two from the front desk.

Ramon's is a resort for divers and that is why we decided to stay there. However the staff of the dive shop was not helpful. They expressed little interest in helping us decide where to dive and supplied only the most basic answers to our questions. Most of the dive staff seemed more interested in playing cards with the locals, and the majority of the time we felt as though we were imposing upon them.

We had a beach front room which was nice. However, the bathroom was not. For instance, there was dried paint all over the fiberglass shower. The food was nothing special. Most people ate elsewhere except on the nights they barbequed.

Wonderful; a slice of paradise Visited: November 1999

We stayed at Ramon's Village during a portion of our honeymoon; it helped make the trip unforgettable! Ramon's thatched-roof huts/rooms were very comfortable, the people were extremely friendly, and the hotel was located a short walk from one of the most interesting (and best) 'resort towns' I've ever experienced. You won't be disappointed.

It was the best time of my life! Visited: November 1999

I have stayed at Ramon's Village 5 times. I have never seen a more beautiful place in my entire life! Ramon, the owner of Ramon's, was nice enough to have dinner with us. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This was by far the best resort on the island of Ambergris Caye! It had a beautiful beach. I would recommend going around Christmas time.
