We were disappointed. Visited: April 2008 |

The staff was very nice for the most part, but we experienced many problems.
On the first night after arriving, when my wife turned the water on, the rancid smell from the tap was so bad, my wife got sick. When questioning the staff the next day, they stated that the water filter was accidentally not replaced. I was told all would be fixed that day.
However, when we returned the following night, it was still smelling bad. The next day, the staff said they may have forgotten again. The smell was never fixed.
I was misquoted on prices for a golf cart, and a Mayan ruins tour. I was also told that the staff would give me a wake-up call so we would no miss the tour. However, they never called.
And last of all, we had to catch a water taxi at 7:00 am. We were told we could get a free ride at 6:30, and that the office was open at 6:00 am. On the morning in question, there was no staff until 6:40, and we barely made it to the water taxi. On top of that, I had to pay for the "free" taxi!
We were very disappointed. |

Do not stay here! Visited: April 2008 |

Captain Morgan is not a bad place. Although, the pictures do not show that there is no real beach here, and the pool is what you will have.
The villa we rented was not clean, and the air condidtioning was not working, among other things.
What is not mentioned is that the place is isolated from San Pedro (3.5 miles), and the most convenient way to get there by water taxi is $14 round trip per person. It would be very dissuasive for a family.
Everything that is provided on site is way overpriced, taking advantage of the fact that you are trapped. Doing your own laundry will cost you $10. The restaurant and the grocery store will charge you twice what you would pay in San Pedro.
Staff we encountered were indifferent to rude. They seemed more interested in getting you to buy a timeshare than having a good time.
Avoid at all cost. There are much better values in other hotels. |

We arrived on the 14th of March, and Neil met us at the airport in Belize City. We were taken by plane to San Pedro City, and then took a boat to Caye Winds. Wow! We were in heaven. Sylvia and Trevor were cooking and getting our drinks ready for the night.
The service was amazing. Our time with our family, and getting to know the staff at the house as our friends, were awesome. We are still raving about our trip. |

We had a perfect and peaceful honeymoon. Visited: March 2008 |

We stayed six nights in this small, serene place - and wished it could have been longer.
Kate and Ian were warm, gracious and immensely helpful hosts. They made us feel like we were home from home.
The Toledo district of Belize was an environmental gem, and our exploration of this area was made both easy and ethical by their wealth of local knowledge and connections.
Hickatee is a sustainable place to stay, so you can enjoy the natural surroundings and Kate's excellent cooking guilt free.
Thanks to Kate and Ian for a wonderful honeymoon - we will definitely be back. |

We just returned from one week at Changes in Latitudes. We booked the trip online as a flight-hotel package, and were not sure what to expect other than some favorable reviews.
Well, those reviews did not do the place justice. The owners, Renita and Cindy, are transplanted midwesterners who welcomed us as best friends when we arrived. From that point on, they did all that they could to make sure our stay was as adventurous or as laid-back as we wanted. It was concierge service that cannot be surpassed by any resort.
Each day started with a delicious breakfast and ended with a cool Belikin beer in the courtyard. The location was ideal. It was just a few yards from the beach, and a short walk to the center of town.
We plan on going back as soon as we can. |

Portofino was Paradise. Visited: January 2008 |

My daughter and I had been to mainland Belize in 2005 for a dive trip, and decided to try Ambergris Caye for our January 2008 dive trip so we'd be closer to the reef. She's a divemaster and I am certified, so we wanted a great place to stay where we could also buy a dive package.
Helda at Portofino arranged everything for us through Ecologic Divers.
We arrived at night, and took Mo's ferry shuttle to the hotel from San Pedro. At first, we were worried not staying closer to town would be a problem. Portofino was located about 15 mintues by boat north of town.
The stars were amazing, and pulling up to the lighted dock with the Palm trees in tiny white lights was dazzling. The staff greeted us in the main reception/ bar area and got us checked in quickly.
Our room was right next door and oceanfront. When we arrived, the lights were on and the mosquito net was around the bed. They had also arranged for an extra bed for my daughter. The room was full of fresh flowers on the beds, nightstands and bathroom area.
Our deck had a great hammock and there were very comfy lounge chairs (some in the shade, some in the sun) on the beach and dock for sunning the next day.
Since our room was right next to the dining/bar area, there was one night it was very noisy. I would suggest asking for the South first floor room, or better, the top floor which is the Honeymoon suite. This building was closest to the beach, and the cabanas were set back behind the pool.
We chose to not buy the food package with Portofino. At Portofino, we had Continental Breakfast which was enough to get the day going - and we had our lunch there, and that was good.
We had two dinners here. One was just okay, and the other was better. Helda recommended and set up the water taxi for us to go to Matachica's restaurant for dinner two nights. It was only a five-minute boat ride away. The food there was terrific, and the service was very attentive and pleasant.
Hanging out and visiting with the other guests and bartender at the Porofino bar was fun after diving or later in the evening. We did one night in town for dinner and seeing the shops. We were so pleased that our hotel was not in this noisy busy part of the island.
We'd highly recommend this hotel and its gracious staff to everyone - not just those seeking a 'honeymoon' location. |

My husband and I stayed here for five nights, and it was the most relaxing vacation we could have asked for.
It was far enough away from the town that we could relax, and if needed we could head south with Mr. Moh for some action.
Also, the food and service were outstanding.
We’ll be back!

My wife and I were here during the off season - September 14th 2007. What a fantastic experience!
The location, setting, food, service, accommodations, and very friendly staff all were par excellance.
Also, the owners, Jan and Sandra, were just fantastic. They were very true and relaxed friends.
It was a vacation we recommend to anyone wanting that "get away from it all" feel. There was lots to do and see. Or, you can just plain relax.Transport was by boat or a walk to the town of San Pedro. Here you feel like you are in another world.
I know they were working on some renovations while we were here (a pool area and new additional accommodations). I would imagine those must be done by now.
This was certainly a resort we will be returning to again in the not to distant future. We will see you again! |

Portofino Resort is Paradise! Visited: May 2007 |

My husband and I have visited Belize five times since early 2002, and each time we have chosen Portofino. After the first time, we would not look at other resorts.
The facilities are exquisite, and so tastefully "native". The photos shown are exactly as it is! The staff always meet your needs, and handle any special requests... always with smiles and ease.
The restaurant is truly among the finest! They have an excellent menu, and the chef definitely knows how to cook!
The ambience, view, ocean, and the entire layout of Portofino has made our vacations very special - add the staff, comfort, and warmth of this place and we have an exceptional resort! |

The Red Hut Inn has a great personality, and offers great hospitality. Visited: October 2007 |

The Red Hut Inn is such a great little place. We cannot say more about good they are. The place is quiet, and you can get a great night of sleep.
Also, the community it is in gives you the tranquility of the countryside. There is no noise, and it is away from the traffic and busy streets.
There is also a great large porch you can sit on with swings and picnic tables. At night, you can see the sky filled with stars while you sit on the porch.
The Red Hut Inn is a great place to stay. I don't think we can find any better hosts than Lewis and Julia, either! Thanks guys! We will be back for sure. |

We were in San Pedro staying at Sunbreeze Hotel, and the service was great.
Their rooms were really nice and well kept. I personally enjoyed the pool area, where I got my wonderful tan.
We dove with Aqua Dives. The dive shop was great. The staff met our every need. We received perfect service. I especially enjoyed the blue hole trip on their 52-ft boat - it was impressive.
Thanks to the staff at Sunbreeze and Aqua Dives, our trip was a blast. |

Ian and Kate are gracious hosts in this quiet (the occasional sounds of howler monkeys), serene piece of the rain forest.
Close to town, about one mile, eating spots in town are simple and inexpensive.
During our stay, we had one night of hard rain, and in the morning the ground was slightly flooded. Ian came to the cottage in high boots with coffee and toast. It was quite the surprise.
If you are looking for an out of the way stay, this is highly recommended. |

The Red Hut Inn is a great little place where you can feel safe and get a good night sleep.
We were here for our first night in Belize. It really helped us lots by talking with Julia and Lewis (owners of the inn). They are great with information, and are willing to assist on everything possible.
Although it is in a suburban area, the restaurants, supermarket and bank are all within walking distance. It has a good location.
Most of all, the hospitality is super. They really live up to their slogan "Where everyone feels at home".
On the way out of Belize, we stayed there a night again. We definitely recommend this place for everyone. It is not a five-star hotel, but it is worth the money. |

Captain Morgan's Retreat gets it!
I stayed in one of the most amazing little huts just 20 feet from the water. I also went snorkeling with "Enrique" at Hol Shan, and Shark Ray Alley was amazing.
I can hardly wait to be back in Belize, thanks to Captain Morgan's Retreat. |

We stayed here just the night before we left Belize.
After all the swimming, hiking and all the activities we have done in our ten- day trip to Belize, we really needed a good night's sleep. Since we were on the first flight out to Miami, we had to go early.
We had a great night of sleep here. The owners, Julia and Lewis, were great and helpful. The place was so quiet and private. We had a great night here. in addition, it was very reasonable for the price they offered.
Definitely for our next trip, we will stay here again. Anyone planning a trip Belize should stay here. |

You'll love this place! They offer beautiful and spacious rooms, air conditioning, fantastic beds, infinity pool, and spa treatments. It's a little piece of heaven in the jungle!
The food and wine are easily some of the best I've found in Belize (this was my third visit to Belize). You could happily stay a week in Ka'ana, relaxing by the pool, enjoying the bar and restaurant, and visiting all the local attractions - Mayan ruins, canoeing, national parks, etc.
I found the staff to be really warm and friendly. I stayed three nights and barely left the premises! This place has a "feel good" factor of ten. I'll be back every visit to Belize, I loved it. |

I had never heard of Belize before. My wife and I decided to give it a shot after a friend told us how great this place is.
The service, food, nightlife, sailing, snorkeling - wow. Also, the people in Belize were so relaxed and friendly. The villa where we stayed was out of this world. We also toured the country, and found out about the Mayans like never before. |
