I had lovely rest at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort. Visited: April 2006
Posted by nb318
I stayed here for five nights over Easter break. My arrival was met by a rather brusque but courteous young man who turned me over to the care of a pleasant porter.

I was whisked away to room 2006, a comfortably appointed room with stunning sea views. The grounds were lovely with mature foliage. The beach was very small with several loungers on the beach, but plenty on a large, but crowded jetty. The sea was crystal clear. The beach was hot, as no breeze came by due to the sea wall.

The housekeepers and bar staff were very nice. This was a well run property. I had a lovely rest at the Divi and cannot wait to go back soon.

Divi Flamingo - beautiful and relaxing Visited: February 2003
Posted by kem300
The Divi Flamingo was a beautiful, friendly resort. I knew the diving would be fantastic, but I had no idea the resort itself would be so terrific. The resort was laid out along a central pathway. Along this “main street” we found everything we needed. You can go to the restaurant, get snorkeling gear, sit on the beach or pier, rent a car, get a haircut, buy souvenirs, swim in one of the two pools, visit the casino, have a massage and, of course, go diving!

There was an excellent breakfast outside every day from 7 to 11. The pools were beautifully landscaped. The gear shed was accessible for diving all day and into the evening. The house reef had so much life we dove there many times and saw something new each time. Also, there were improvements happening right before our eyes. By the end of the week, the area to the right of the shed had a new bench and porch to facilitate gearing up.

The staff in all parts of the resort were helpful. The rooms were clean. The view was lovely. The Chibi Chibi had a good menu with delicious specials available every day.

On Bonaire, we kept reminding ourselves that we were on "Island Time" and it really was different from the faster paced lifestyle most of us lead. Once you have accustomed yourself to the slower, more laid-back pace, waiting for service (anywhere) won't seem irritating, but relaxing.

After 10 years, it is always like coming home. Visited: September 2002
Posted by judy
Our first stay was in July of '92, and we have been back each year since.

As of September 2002, the hotel is looking great. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and hotel rooms are all remodeled. The staff remembers us every year and always welcomes us back.

The restaurants are good, and the servers are friendly and efficient. Also, the dive operation is fantastic! It is a well maintained fleet of dive boats, and a friendly and eager to please dive staff. The dive masters are all very experienced. They make you feel like family and do everything possible to make each dive a great experience.

We can't wait to go back this year!

They have a great dive shop! Visited: February 2002
Posted by slaw
I stayed at the Divi Flamingo and, while not overly fancy (it got about three stars in that respect), the staff was fine and I thought the food at the main restaurant was quite good.

The oceanfront views were amazing and most importantly for scuba diving, the dive shop for me was terrific (that aspect got five stars). The people at the dive shop were extremely nice and helpful.

One general Bonaire recommendation - if you rent a car, make sure the Hertz or any other car dealer logo is not on the vehicle since this shouts "tourist" and could lead to thefts on the island while diving.

Overall, at the Divi Flamingo, though, I had a positive experience.

Relaxed atmosphere with great views Visited: May 2001

We really liked this hotel. There’s a nice dive/snorkel spot right in front of the hotel. The people of the hotel are very nice and helpful. Don't miss the manager’s cocktail party.

It’s a relaxed atmosphere and there are great views right from your balcony. The rooms are well equipped, except for not having a minibar and fridge. We are planning on coming back.

OK, but pricey with an excellent dive shop. Visited: January 2001
Posted by eljefe99
We spent the New Years 2001 holiday in a couple of 5-series (remodeled) rooms. If you don't like double beds, find another hotel. Even though we were confirmed a king-sized bed, we learned that they don't exist here. The maid service was good, thorough, and friendly. We bought a package, but stayed one extra night because of airline scheduling problems for which these nice folks charged us full price.

Food was so-so, but pricey. Service was somewhere between lacking and non-existent. Breakfast buffet costs $9 for melon, toast, & coffee; $12 if you want eggs and cold sausage or bacon. Add 15% "service" and 5% tax to everything. I would suggest that you go somewhere else, but bring lots of money for taxis.

We took the resort dive course and felt very comfortable with the instruction and instructors. We had no interest in certification, but thoroughly enjoyed the reefs, coral, and fishes with the confidence inspired by a dive master right alongside.

The good news is that they brought in a new manager who recognizes some of their problems and looks forward to resolving them. The staff got a new labor contract, for instance, the first in 13 years. The new guy ran Divi's property on Cayman Brac and has 25 years of experience in getting things done in the Caribbean. Let's hope he gets it together because it's a shame to see such a beautiful property acquire an undesirable reputation.

Resort under major construction but Dive Shop is great! Visited: June 2000
Posted by ATraveler
The dive shop, Dive Bonaire, was absolutely excellent. They were professional, organized, easy going, helpful and courteous. They went out of their way to keep us from repeating locations and often pointed out items of interest on the reef. The diving on Bonaire was better than Cozumel, Cayman and Jamaica. It was comparable to the Red Sea.

Highly recommend Richard's Restaurant which is walking distance south of the hotel and also highly recommend a guided tour by Biologist Klaas Bakker at Bonaire Nature Tours, Ph: 717 7714. He will show you caves, plantations, a river and points you will not hear or read about elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the hotel. This place did not (and has no plans to) have phones in the rooms! Major construction on grounds including: jackhammers, buildings knocked down, crane barge and backhoe. Most of the landscaping had been ripped out.

Our room (500 series) was recently renovated and nice. The maids were good; they serviced the room during the morning boat dive and always left plenty of towels, soap, etc. The other hotel staff were marginally helpful and most had a poor service attitude - we were ignored frequently.

Too many good restaurants in walking distance to eat at the hotel. Lunch at these will run $ 20.00 for 2 and dinner $ 50.00-75.00 for 2. Still would not get the full meal plan at the hotel.

Joke's Mini store is walking distance south of the hotel and is much cheaper/better selection than the hotel store if you need water, etc.

Hotel is mediocre - The dive operation supurb! Visited: February 2000
Posted by Serenesuz
I found the dive operation to be excellent. I was certified here. The only thing that could possibly make their operation better would be arrangments to watch the dive video's at night. How nice it would be to have some day time hours to play if your certifying here. Twenty-four hour shore diving was available. And the diving was breathtaking. Surge and Gerta were just terrific as instructors.

The hotel food was good not exceptional. Selection was really lacking and was not all that imaginative. The advertised childrens program did not exist - leaving me worried often about my 11 year old while I took dive classes. The shops did not exist. The one shop open carried soda and chips, candy and sunscreen, and tooth brushes.

The refrigerator and stove in our unit were rusted. The bathroom dingy but clean. The maid service was good. The front office was friendly. The pool left a little to be desired. The beach, well, there wasn't much of one with just a few chairs.

Again this is a dive island and there are no words to adequately describe the diving!

A one-of-a-kind resort. Visited: July 1999
Posted by aloha95
I have been a timeshare owner at Flamingo Beach for the past 12 years and I love the place! The accommodations during the time of my ownership have ranged from poor to excellent. The ocean, thank God, doesn't change, as well as the friendly, relaxed attitude of the staff, which always makes Flamingo Beach a great place to visit. After all, the staff is not responsible for the intermittent poor management of the place. In spite of anything negative I’ve said, I still rate Flamingo Beach a 5-star resort.

Very enjoyable experience all around Visited: November 1999
Posted by ATraveler
The grounds had interesting, exotic foliage we had not seen before. The two swimming pools were large and refreshing. The dive operation ran on time guaranteed. Rooms were older but clean and acceptable.

The restaurant was the best we found. The wait staff were extra nice. Food, all over Bonaire, was a little expensive but it all has to be flown onto the island so it is understandable. It also had a tendancy toward 'gourmet' which is not to all people's liking. Try the Flamingo Hotel bacon cheeseburger at lunch to remind you of the good old USA!

Great dive hotel: Overall, a good experience Visited: November 1999
Posted by ATraveler
They had a friendly staff and the location was an easy walk to town. You've got to love the Dutch people, because they are so easy-going. I thought it was a great value with the all-inclusive package I had (room, diving, food).

There were some really cool little restaurants just north of the hotel, with the best food. The chefs at these places were well-trained and offered a great menu.

I island travel a lot for diving and rate this experience near the top. I'm going back with a group of friends in the next few months. It beats Mexico or the Bahamas. Don't go here just to eat, because the diving is unbelievable. My only complaint was that I couldn't find the coffee shops (speak easy) I visit in Holland.

A wonderful resort experience along with exceptional diving. Visited: November 1999
Posted by ATraveler
I have traveled to Bonaire on several occasions within the past several years and each time I have stayed at the Divi Flamingo Resort. It is a wonderfully laid back atmosphere, the staff is friendly and the island people are great.

The diving speaks for itself. However, the dive operation at the Divi is excellent allowing you to take as many tanks you need for unlimited shore dives throughout the island.

The Resort also has some historical significance. So when you go, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy...because the island is just wonderful all year long!
