A: It is quite simple to get married on
Tortola although you need 3 working
days to apply. The best way is to use
a wedding planner. Fort Recovery Villas
is one of the most romantic spots on
Tortola and has a free Wedding Planner
that can help you very easily. We
used her and spent our honeymoon there
and it was absolutely fabulous. A real
Caribbean dream come true. Good luck on
your new and best time of your life.

A: You are required to be in BVI three (3) days before you can be married. You can apply for a marriage license on the same day of arrival at the Attorney General's Office located on the second floor of the Central Administration Complex, Road Town, Tortola. Please give application (3) business days to be processed

The requirements of the Attorney General's office are:

$110.00 (in BVI postage stamps) for a Special License for those residents in the BVI for three days.
$50.00 (in BVI postage stamps) for an Ordinary License for those residents in the BVI for 15 days or more.
Your passport as proof of identity and date of arrival in the British Virgin Islands.
Proof of marital status (certified or original copies of decree absolute for divorced spouses or death certificates for deceased spouses.)
two witnesses needed:
for signing license application and
to be present at the marriage ceremony.
(witnesses need not be the same for both exercises; persons in BVI may be selected as witnesses)
Having applied for the license, you go to the Registrar-General's Office to schedule an appointment for the date and time you propose to be married. The Registrar-General's Office is situated on Wickham's Cay, Road Town, upstairs of Burhym Electrical Services. The hours of business are:

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Weddings are performed by the Registrar General outside the Office between the hours of 9:00am and 6:30pm, Monday through Saturday, and inside the Office between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

The Registrar, who is the marriage officer, will require a complete application showing the following information:

The names of the two parties as it appears on your travel documents
The ages of both parties
The occupation of both parties
Marital status
The names of the two witnesses to the ceremony
The fees payable at the Registrar General's Office are $35.00 if wedding ceremony is performed in the office, and $100.00 if it is performed elsewhere. All cheques should be made payable to the Accountant General.

If you wish to be married in a church of your choice, Wedding Banns must be published on three (3) consecutive Saturdays or Sundays in that church. You must make arrangements with the Minister of the church in advance. Publishing of banns is not necessary if a license is obtained.

Please travel with proof of your identity such as passports, driver's license or original birth certificates and certified copies of your marital status. Blood tests are not necessary.

Registrars Offices
The registrar's office should be contacted for specific rules regarding planning your destination or beach wedding in British Virgin Islands. They will also provide information regarding marriage licenses and marriage certificates.
