The excellence continues! Visited: February 2005
Posted by grablow
We returned for our third visit in 2005 (see earlier comment from 2002). The food and service continue to be among the best, and most consistent, in the Caribbean.

Althought he beach was slightly eroded in places from 2002, it is still sufficently smooth and wide for lounge chairs and beach walkers not to interfere with one another.

Two great additions are the hillside spa (wow!) and the pool complex near the terranc restaurant. Both are welcome additions that help make resort this resort exceptional. You must use the spa at least once-we recommend the couples massage with dual private massage, champagne, and fruit platter while watching the sun set over the ocean. It is also a nice place just to sit and enjoy the view and double (small pools) and hot tub in an even more secluded and quite location in this very private resort.

The prices in Ferbuary are a bit outrageous, but if you can forget about what it cost, easier once you are enjoying the peacefulness and relaxation. As before, we hated to leave even after 10 days. We know we will return again soon.

I look forward to next season. Visited: November 2004

Little Dix Bay is currently in its final stage of new construction and restoration.

Some of the improvements include a new GM, talented "Bocuse" trained Chef Denis Jaricot, a new pool, additional suites and, of course, the friendliest staff I've ever experienced!

Being in the hospitality business for 20 years, my wife and I look forward to tranquility, and you can find it here. When walking off site you are met with the same friendliness and cordial salutations as if you were a resident!

Keep up the good work and I look forward to next season!

Spa is a jewel. Visited: October 2003
Posted by kwschram
We had a wonderful stay for a week at Little Dix Bay Resort.

The beach and bay were fantastic! There was crystal clear water that was smooth as glass due to the leeward location of the resort and barrier reef across mouth of bay. If you are into restful bathing with no waves to disturb your water slumber, this is the place.

The grounds and flora were spectacular and meticulously kept by an ever-busy grounds crew. Service at all points (front desk, housekeeping, room service, beach and pier) was excellent.

The jewel of the resort was the spa, which was world-class from start to finish. The setting was stunning. Situated on the ridge at the mouth of the bay, the vista across the plunge pool and Caribbean at the entrance was breathtaking.

By design, I am sure, guests were asked to relax by the pool until the therapist arrived to gather them up and move higher up the ridge to one of the treatment cottages set amongst the lavish landscaping, and overlooking the Caribbean. In this setting it would be hard to find any fault with the massages, facials or other treatments available, but they stood on their own as truly excellent. The spa experience was probably reason enough to visit Little Dix.

Torch lit private dinners on the beach were also available and worth the expense for this unique experience.

All the above being said, Little Dix fell short of expectations in some regards. It was very hard to get there from secondary air markets, and the poor connections to Tortola coupled with boat ride to Virgin Gorda made for a very long day of travel that took the breath out of the stay before it began.

We found the food to be mostly average to good, but in very few cases it was excellent. The manager's beach buffet at the Pavillion was particularly poor in both selection and quality. The menus were limited and did not change during our stay.

The premium beachfront room we stayed in, although comfortable and clean, was neither spacious nor well appointed. A Holiday Inn Express would be described as more luxurious. The grounds were beautiful, but came with a cost of suffering the constant early morning starts of ground crews using gasoline edgers, mowers, tractors, trimmers, etc.

All in all, the beach and bay, beauty of the grounds, the service and especially the spa made Little Dix worth a visit. However, average food and average rooms at much more than twice average costs for luxury Caribbean resorts will probably keep us from returning.

It was breathtaking. Visited: September 2003

My wife and I just returned from Little Dix, our first trip to the BVIs. This was certainly one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The staff - from top to bottom - was most accommodating in making arrangements for us. The attention to detail in the food preparation and the wait staff seeing to our every need and desire was amazing. Being able to leave our room unlocked was a pleasant surprise as we live in New Orleans, Louisiana.

It was laid back and was not crowded at this time of the year, may have been due to the threat of Hurricane Isabel or the hurricane season being in September. It was a gift from somewhere to not have to wait in line for anything, and to dine without reservations was refreshing.

My wife said the spa was wonderful as she had a sunburn, I offered to send her back another day, but she declined as we only spent two days at Little Dix.

You must see it to believe the wonders of this wonderful resort. The weather was great with evening or night showers, which the islands needed desperately. Thanks to all at Little Dix Bay.

Serenity tarnished Visited: March 2003
Posted by tjroach
My wife and I have been vacationing at LDB for over 20 years. We love the "as advertised" tranquility and serenity as well as the beautiful facilities. Even more, we have come to love the people who go out of there way to pamper you.
Unfortunately, over the last few years trouble has arrive in paradise. Management has been both promoting and encouraging parents to bring young children with reduce rates for kids. As a result, the quiet serenity has been shattered. The facilities - the beach, boat, floats, dining room etc. have been invaded with loud, unsupervised kids. I love kids, but not when I am trying to relax on vacation.
I hope management comes to their senses or plan on vacationing with noisy pre-school children monopolizing the facilities.

We just returned to the snow from the most beautiful place in the world! Little Dix was amazing!

The accommodations were beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking. The service was great and the people were so friendly.

We took a boat trip to The Baths, hiked the Savannah Bay and Cowhill trails and had a wonderful tour of the island.

If you visit, you must go to the new spa. We had massages that were just amazing. The pool and the view were also absolutely beautiful. We will definitely be coming back to paradise!

Outstanding - again! Visited: December 2002
Posted by grablow
We just returned from our second visit this year. We first visited for 10 days in February at the recommendation of my brother who stayed here in 1999. My wife and I loved the quiet, the beach, the food and the excellent and friendly service.

In February, we had a room at the far end of the beach and thought it was a great location. In December, we had a room near the pier which was a closer room to the beach, but a little smaller than the less expensive room at the far end. We did not have any problem with noise from bar or pier boats.

We are beach people and this was one of the best beaches and resorts of 12 islands and 19 Caribbean trips over last 23 years.

Neither Little Dix nor Virgin Gorda was for people who like crowds and the party scene; this island was for quiet and relaxation-a place to forget the hectic pace of daily life.

Water sports were plentiful from the resort, and the staff was very helpful and cooperative in arranging private trips to scuba or snorkle.

The food was very good and plentiful, although after 9 days, we had tried most every item on the menus in 2 of the 3 restaurants.

If you can endure the long and multiple plane rides (from almost anywhere) to get here, it is definitely worth every minute and every dollar spent! We plan to return in 2004.

Little Dix Bay is paradise! Visited: May 2002

My husband and I just returned from Little Dix Bay and we plan on going back.

We were met promptly at Tortola's airport and then whisked away on Little Dix's boat with rum punch in hand. We never touched our bags and they were promptly sent to our room - no check in at a lobby or wasted time.

Our room was beautifully decorated and immaculate. I loved the added touches like the walking sticks, mango moisturizer, loofah, robes, twice daily ice service and fresh flowers. The view was one of the most beautiful I've ever experienced.

We had wonderful meals at the Sugar Mill and the Pavilion at LDB and also ventured off the premises for dinners. The grounds at Little Dix were pristine and the flora and fauna left me breathless.

We had so many activities to choose from (if we wanted), or we could lounge on the beach or water floats at the most beautiful beach around. William and Elton, who ran many of the boat excursions, were so accommodating and helped make our trip memorable as did most of the Little Dix employees.

The snorkeling was amazing and just steps from the Little Dix beach. You can watch sea turtles and even stingrays or go to the Baths, Savannah Bay or Mountain Trunk.
Little Dix was understated elegance and I now understand why there are so many return visitors. Little Dix Bay is also building a new spa and a swimming pool (you definitely do not need one with this beach).

I was apprehensive about this resort because of past mixed reviews and my high standards about accommodations. But it surpassed all my expectations and was a perfect destination.

Don't look any further! By far, Little Dix Bay is the best hotel on the island.

The beach at the hotel is just beautiful. Every day you will encounter sea turtles, sting rays and other tropical fish. The ocean view rooms are nicely decorated and are quite big.

The service at the hotel is excellent and the people are very friendly. We will definitely come back.

This was a perfect holiday. Visited: September 2001

I compare every family holiday according to my stay at Little Dix. It was a little challenging to get here, but the journey to the island (from Tortola) got me in the right mood.

We toted along our two year old who absorbed the Caribbean beauty with wide eyes. The resort was gorgeous, with lush gardens and scenic views of the beach.

You cannot lose at this resort. It was expensive, but we got exactly what we paid for - high quality food and service. I highly recommend this resort for couples and families. I also would suggest to go with the meal plan, as it works out the same if you opt to pay-as-you-go.

The island was small - you could see the whole island in about 15 minutes by car. And there wasn't that much to see or do outside the resort. You would be better off walking to the marina occasionally or taking the hotel shuttle if you want to leave the resort.

I recommend you rent a boat to look around the islands (we rented a whaler for $200/day).

I would come back here in a heart beat.

Worth every penny. Visited: September 2001

My wife and I just returned from the most wonderful vacation we have ever had. We spent a week at Little Dix and could not have been more impressed. Originally, we were heading for a sister resort in the Grenadines, which ended up closing early for renovations, so our reservations were honored at Little Dix.

The moment we arrived at the tiny Beef Island airport our bags were rounded up and then we were whisked away via boat to the resort. Rum punch in hand, we had the boat to ourselves for the 20-minute ride.

The standard ocean view room was fine, though I recommend that you get a bigger room as far away from the sometimes-busy pier. It tends to be loud. The rooms on either the east or west end seemed to be nicest. The grounds were beautiful and staff was very accommodating.

Being the beginning of slow/hurricane season (September), we practically had the resort to ourselves after Labor Day. This was both good and bad. It was great only sharing the 1/2-mile wide crescent beach with a handful of others. The lack of other guests added to the already understated nature of the resort. However, no one told us that two of the three restaurants would be closed. That withstanding, the food was outstanding, as was the service. We got the MAP plan, though probably will not next time since it is no less expensive than dinning a la carte. Plus, there are other restaurants we would like to explore on and around the island.

The island of Virgin Gorda is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. You should definitely visit the beaches outside the resort - Little Valley Trunk, Spring Bay, and the Baths being highlights. The resort has complimentary water taxis that can take you to any one of a number of beaches. The snorkeling in the resort's reef protected bay is good - we saw lemon sharks, rays, barracuda and many fish.

As with everything in life, you get what you pay for. And at Little Dix you get a lot, but it doesn't come cheap. Other than the water taxis, welcome bottle of rum and fitness center, not much else is included.

Little Dix is as they say, "understated elegance" and it's a great place to go to relax and decompress from the everyday world. Too bad that we had to leave, but at least we have our return to look forward to.

Nice but not great Visited: August 2001
Posted by cruiseluv
We found the property to be beautiful, service all in all was gracious, however we were somewhat disappointed.

We had reserved early in the year an Oceanview room using Rosewood´s central reservations. We were not informed at the time that usually in the spring they post even lower room rates for the summer. I was lucky to check their website a couple of weeks before arriving and noticed that our room category was $75 lower/day and they honored the lower price.

The Oceanfront rooms were a little disappointing, smaller than any room picture I had seen in their website. Had I known that I would have upgraded to a superior room for approximately $50 more/day.

I was also not aware that the resort doesn't have a pool. Although we were very satisfied with the beach, I craved a freshwater swim! Food was very good and people were very friendly.

Always Leave 'Em Wanting More... Visited: August 2001
Posted by jamurr
We just returned from a weeklong honeymoon at Little Dix, and are already planning our return. We couldn't have imagined a better place for a honeymoon, or vacation, for that matter. It is absolutely the most beautiful location in the Caribbean.

It's pricey (not as pricey as some reviews we have read suggest!), but remember, you get what you pay for.

There were so many activities we couldn't possibly do all we would have liked, yet left rejuvenated thanks to sun-soaked lounging, gourmet cuisine, and a fully attentive, friendly staff (Tell Captain Malcolm "hi" for us!). Snorkeling, sailing, exploring, and eating—I wonder if our one-year anniversary the SOONEST we can get away.

Far exceeded expectations Visited: November 2000

Everything about Little Dix Bay and Virgin Gorda far exceeded our expectations. The room, the food, the atmosphere and the staff all made for a relaxing, memory-making anniversary trip. We're avid water sportsmen and were delighted with the beaches and surrounding snorkeling opportunities. We just wonder how much longer the area will remain as quaint and relatively remote. We plan a return visit as soon as feasible.

Heaven on Earth Visited: November 2000
Posted by whitk20
We spent Thanksgiving week at Little Dix. We are so glad we made the effort from California. We had our two young children with us (both under 3) and were unsure how the resort would cater to us. We were in for a real surprise - the kid's center was outstanding!

Andy, the director at the children's center, took a keen interest in making sure all of us had an outstanding time. Our 2 1/2 year old wanted to go to the center everyday and we were able to get a nanny to watch the younger one at the center as well. Since we had a nanny ($8.50 an hour), the Center was comped for the older one. This was a great deal as we are used to paying $12 an hour for a sitter at home.

From everything we had read about Little Dix it was supposed to be stuffy, etc. This was not the case at all!!! The staff were great, especially the waiters for meals, the food was superb, but of course, expensive - go with the meal plan!!

We made good friends with three other couples and are in contact with them.

The layout of property were spectacular. The beach was luminous and better than the brochure. We did an all-day sail, sunset cruise, tour of the island, etc. The only thing worth seeing is Top of the Baths - crawl through tunnel to Devil's Beach - amazing 1/2 hour journey!!!

We went to Biras Creek which seemed more formal than Little Dix. Do not bring children to Biras! We did not know and showed up with our children by accident for dinner. We hid in the back corner all night.

Little Dix had a very loyal following and people came back year after year for good reason. It was quiet, spacious, 1st class and great for honeymooners or families with young kids. They are dividing the rooms on the property between honeymooners and guests with children so there were no problems depending on what you wanted. Older children may be bored (over 10).

If you want peace and quiet and a superb 'hideaway', I highly recommend Little Dix.

We visited in low season. Visited: October 2000
Posted by cymru67
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at Little Dix Bay. The resort itself was beautiful and the grounds had gorgeous flowers throughout the complex. The food was very good, however not many options were available.

We knew that we would be visiting during the off season but were not prepared to see how much we lost out on as customers because we visited during their low season. There was only one restaurant open, sail boats were not available because they were "being serviced," our room was never cleaned before three o'clock each day, room service was not available. The waiter on the beach came every three hours or so.

In addition to getting the runaround from different employees, we never received a straight answer as to what was included in the activiites that were available. We had to order our own $80 lunch to bring with us on a daysail that was already $150 and did not have any refreshments on board, however there were plenty of ants!

We felt like we were cheated because they were busy gearing up for the busier season. We felt misled by their web site and brochures.

Excellent staff and facilities Visited: April 1999

Our family of three has gone to Little Dix Bay for the past three years and we already booked for the 2001 Easter break. It is located on a beautiful island and even though there is not a great deal to see, everyone on the island is helpful and friendly!

The resort is beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and attractive. The food is excellent, but expensive. The service, however, makes up for this some. I would recommend Little Dix Bay highly for relaxing!!

Excellent vacation spot for couples and families, but pricey. Visited: March 1999
Posted by john2
We visited Little Dix with another family, toting five kids. Getting to the Little Dix was difficult, but worth it. After we arrived, we didn't touch our luggage until it arrived in the room. Accommodations were nice, but a little cramped for a family of five (book 2 rooms if you bring kids. We did, but still could have used more room).

The resort was beautiful, well laid out, and on a very nice stretch of beach. It was very easy to get around and the staff were there whenever you needed them to assist you with transportation, activities, reservations, etc. And, they took care of us with a smile. The service could not have been better and keeping our group happy wasn't easy!

All five children enjoyed the Kid's Camp and they asked to go every day. But, this got expensive, especially with several children. However, both sets of parents felt that the camp staff really took time to get to know the kids and really catered to them.

All the meals were excellent, both in quality and service, but you would expect nothing else considering the price and the resort's reputation. One complaint was that the drinks should have been included in the room rate. Charges add up quickly, and it would be easier to include them.

All-in-all, Little Dix is one of the finest resorts you will ever stay in, as well as one of the most expensive. Check-out was easy, but be prepared to get out your wallet! Quality does not come cheap, and just about everyone here was a repeat guest.
